Cheaper buying a pre-owned from Game than Microsoft for fixing.

Do The Game Ones Have Warranty?

Becareful my mate had the same problem but he changed the disc drive but still wont read the disks, hes been told its a motherboard fault

The disk drive has a unique key (like an ID number) attached to it. You need to extract this information from the old one and then transfer it over to the new one.

So unless you're comfortable doing this, you shouldn't try and repair it yourself. Unfortunately, it's not just a matter of swapping over the old broken drive for a new one.

Unless the drive PCB board is still good you wont be able to read the code, if its still good then there is no need to extract and spoof it over, just buy an identical drive and swap the PCB over.

Its not just a case of swapping the drives though, did he sort out the ID?

not sure will speak to him tomorrow thanks didn't know about the id

Had several hours of cussing and swearing at mine trying to upgrade to LT+ first managed to wipe the key completely and lose it, finally found the original backed up in email, had a PIA installing Jungleflasher portio32! Then PC died and had to do a fresh install!

My advice, keep the original key backed up safe and if you don't fancy mucking around with your PC case open, a 360 balanced dodgily beside it and bits of hardware left right and centre don't buy it!

Good news is NFS Hot Pursuit is great!

Tell me about it... my computer gives me BSOD every time I power cycle the drive when putting it in vendor mode. Arrghghg! Strangely, everything works fine on an old Windows partition which I have on an old hard drive so I just boot that up for flashing!

I'm guessing you get the BSOD with windows 7? and all good with XP?

Strangely when I was trying to sort it I removed a PCI USB expansion card to move a hard drive up a bay as it was at the bottom, didnt put it back straight away and when I had re-installed W7 jungleflasher worked a treat, put it back and tried again it kept hanging so I swapped for a brand new identical card (belkin) same again, then tried a generic unbranded card and it worked so I am guessing it was some sort of conflict between the chip on the belkin and jungleflasher.
