    xbox 360 RROD

i've just recently sent my 360 back to microsoft to be repaired. died 3 times on saturday, working fine for a while after displaying the ring, then dying again :?

    what do microsoft actually fix?

will my xbox be quieter? i've heard a few folk say that theirs is running much much better than before, silent aswell.

any chance i'll get a brand new console? one lad on a forum states he got a 360 elite in return for a premium :w00t:

From what i've heard - you don't actually get yours back - you get someone else's reconditioned box. Did you keep your Hard Drive?

My mate is ahving a shock story with his, he sent his in and said to include everything so he did. Next they send it to him back with the power pack, hes phoned them up and now they say hes gotta wait until next friday (after halo 3) before they even start to "investigate" what has happen to it.

By sending you someone else's reconditioned console; Microsoft can make the process as fast as they can. It would take them ages to track and repair each console. To which people would then complain about the wait for the console to be repaired (even more than they already do).

I don't know why some people seem to be emotionally attached to their consoles. Did you go for long walks on the beach? Did you sit and look at the stars together? It's a console, and unlike the one you sent to them, at least this one works.

You'll find that it now has a new heat sink. Which should decrease the likelihood of a further ring of death.

As for loudness, I think it depends what drive you have. My first 360 had a Hitachi drive and was really loud. The Samsung drive I now have I can hardly notice when it's on.

Look at it this way freeDUMB:

You save up for ages and finally are able to afford a 360, you treat it like a Goddess and really look after it, after a month though it breaks.

Now do you really want your console back thats in pristine condition, or a two year old one that some kid has left on the floor, got sticky fingers on and has had the living daylights kicked out of it.

If you have looked after your console for eleven months and it's not had much use, would you want it replaced with a box thats been used continually for two years, of which MS are only likely to have replaced the one broken part on, its likely that many other parts will wear out on it.

Put simply, if you could get a 360 new for £200, you wouldnt buy mine off me for £200, with a warranty or not, because you would want a new one.

I repair them for £30.00 or you can do it yourself it's not that difficult.

I just take mine to the shop I bought it from and get a brand new replacement.

But hey, all I was trying to do was say why Microsoft do what they do.
