XBox 360- which one to get arcade or 60 GB

Hi I need help in finding My husbands xmas pressie.. I am going to get Him an Xbox 360, He's not a serious gamer (He wotrks loooong hours) Its just something for Him and My little 2 and half year old to play- Well My little boy to watch- Wall E game and Cars etc. But when I went into currys they were trying to sell me 60gb and said the arcade version is rubbish?? whats the difference.. Def dont wanna go online and its just for playing games not saving them, does HD?? affect the game?? will it make it clearer or is this just when watching DVD's? whats the diff between the two and any advice would be great- I am not 'with the times'...lol and when asking for advice in shops they always wanna sell the 'more expensive' one.

    THANKS A BUNCH!!

He's not using it online so he's not gonna be able to get the update.

I'd say he'd be happy with the arcade.

Arcade has a memory card, so he can save them anyway.

Yh but you can update VIA CD.

Guys, what size of HDD do you need for the update? and an arcade will work as long as you add the HDD yourself, right?

Yh liddle, i think you need a 512mb card however you can install the update and then remove hdd and attach once you finished using that console

The smallest hdd will suffice (20gb - add on using MS upgrade program for £12.99/£19.99 inc 3 months live if that is still going on?).

Thanks both. I see - so the size of the HDD is only important really if you want to store games on it so that they don't have to be played from the dvd drive.

Or if your downloading an excessive number of videos / demos etc.

(Worth noting the 20gb is prior to formatting, and its 20,000,000 kb so subject to the usual rounding done by manufacturers. It's also pre-filled with alot of rubbish, so you can expect to have around a third free on arrival)

so does the xbox arcade make a loud 'reading' noise? and will I be able to get games on HD when the update becomes available on xbox 60gb?? which one?? ... still unsure which one to go for?

Get 60gb. Great offers recently on it. 60gb is better in long run.

The original 20 GB drive actually only allows a maximum of around 13 GB to be used when cleared of all downloadable content.

8 GB is used by the 360 for Backwards Compatibility to run original Xbox Games under software emulation. This space cannot be reclaimed as far as I am aware.

13 GB was fine for me since launch. It's been enough to download ~4 GB of extra content, XBLA games and several demos at the same time. If you find yourself running out of space then its only ever because you end up forgetting to delete an unwanted demo.

On the other hand, the NXE's ability to allow you to image games to the 360 HDD will make 13 GB seem very restricted as it will potentially limit you to around 2 games at any one time to be copied to the HDD.

The NXE upgrade requires 128MB of free space to be installed thus all new 360s will have enough storage space to install the upgrade. The update will most likely be included on DVD in future game releases (this happened with the older Xbox in the past).

Microsoft are also offering discounts on re-conditioned 20 GB hard drives at this site:
    xboxstorageupgrade.com/hh/…_GB

All that is required is the console serial number and ID to identify if the unit is applicable for the offer.

    And finally:

    All 360's by default are:
Hi-Def capable and are equiped with a HDMI port and A/V port (for Composite/Component and VGA).
Include a wireless controller as standard.
