Xbox one console only on ebay. Scam?

35
Found 1st Jul 2014
Have just seen a console only xbox one (without Kinect, wires or controller) on ebay for £160.
What is the likelihood it's a scam? He seems to have already received feedback a few months ago selling them from high feedback buyers.

However he put up 30 and they sold within a day earlier in the week and has now put up another 30.

I'm tempted but if it's too good to be true.

Stolen?

Go for it...

...but it probably is a scam unless delivery is £100

I wouldn't personally...

credit card scam, replacement console ordered from microsoft, deposit placed (for replacement) on stolen credit card.
Backlash is on you, not him.

Yeah, i actually just googled his contact details on ebay and apparently he's a Italian Painter from the 1700s and his address is a hotel in Italy.
Would have thought paypal protection either way, 19 have sold since 5PM too.

Either way you're covered by ebay/paypal buyer protection.

About right that after you've bought the extras?

Could you be bothered with trying to get your money back though?

Comes to around 200 after extras. He has almost sold out anyway, so i will see in a few days what his feedback looks like.

Was just gonna say Chris, too much hassle so i'm not bothering. That and there's no games out anyway i want bar Destiny.

There are bargains to be had, it does sound abit dubious but I thought that when I bought my Dad a car for £51.02 around 9 years ago from eBay we had it for about 2 years before it got buggered up

Me too... Accidentally burned my cheb end, didn't read the warning "not for Al fresco use"

It's called Warranty Fraud / Exploitation / Deception

They use a generated serial number
Scammer tells Microsoft his console is broke
Microsoft arranges Advanced replacement (they send new one out FIRST, fraudster is supposed to send old one back within 31 days)
Scammer uses Virtual Credit Card with £1 on it, Microsoft verify the card by taking £1 out and putting it back in. (like paypal does)
Xbox gets shipped to scammer
Scammer sells it
Gets banned after 31 days because the original (non existant) broken console never got sent back.

Hope he gets busted.

This, but it's possible they are doing it as they sell - so they are using the buyers address/name to send the replacement. This makes it risky for the buyer because MS thinks they are the ones scamming them.

I like how you all supposedly have this figured out based on absolutely NOTHING.

I for one would have ordered it. you have 45 days to raise a dispute in case anything goes wrong with it.

There is always an element of risk with anything you buy. this guy could be legitimate.

Stop with the scaremongering when its based on no evidence whatsoever other than an eBay listing.

I didn't figure this out based on nothing. I work on an online community which hosts a market, and people did the same scam there except they used Kindles from Amazon.

There is also an ongoing scam where people sell 'any item' from Amazon for 50% off. Any item that is fulfilled by Amazon can be refunded by going to live chat and telling them the package was empty. They purchase items on VCC, ship an item to the 'buyer' and then refund it when they receive it (and repeat).

This is of course illegal and can land people in a lot of trouble

there was a seller a while back who was posted about on here.....
they had an account in great standing, but suddenly sold a load of iPhones, xboxes and ps4s. they never delivered, many people were left without their item and i think ebay/paypal got involved and refunded

on ebay, anyone that sells considerably below market value can be assumed to be a scam. if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true.

i brought one off this guy last week still no sign off xbox one :-(

Must be an epidemic if he managed to steal over 60 consoles then. But i agree it's a scam and considering they can go for quite cheap on ebay it's not worth the time

im not arguing with you!!

im just saying you have learned from your mistake
now just dont make the same mistake twice

Do you the ones at cash converters selling for £250 were involved in this matter. I was thinking of buying one from them. I understand they do the checkmend checks and such but it wouldn't be updated that quickly would it?

do you think* sorry typo!

The thing is with CEX as long as you check that the serial number on the receipt is the same as the one on the console you purchased then you would be fully covered.

Oops, sorry you meant Cash Convertors. As above, as long as you get them to confirm the serial number on the day then you will be OK.

To update the guy seems to have 20 new negative feedback.

panned out exactly how I thought it would.
hope everyone affected reports him to actionfraud and he gets locked up and all the funds recovered. scum.

edit: seems this guy is based in overseas (italy). that adds many metres to the barge pole

Hope no one on here bought any of them, could clearly see it was a scam, suppose people trust buyer protection alot with eBay to go ahead with it.
