Xbox One S. DNS error BT Smart Hub

I'm trying to set up an Xbox One S for someone and I'm unable to get it to connect to their BT Smart Hub router. I've tried both wired and wireless and keep getting an error 'the DNS is not resolving Xbox server names'. any idea how this can be fixed? Glad i bought myself a PS4.

when you are connecting to it wirelessly, do you go through automatic settings or manual?

Have you looked in the router setings to alllow Ports for Xbox? there is usually a pre setup xbox setting.

Get a decent router. BT hubs are rebranded off-the-shelf cheap crap.

yeh, theres something already set up for the Xbox in port forwarding, this must have happened automatically.

Try turning off the smart setup in the advanced network setting of the router and restart it

thats of no use at the moment as i cannot get it to even get to the main Xbox menu as you need to connect to the internet as soon as you turn the Xbox one on and go through the set up.

No they're not, BT design their own routers, infact BT are in the top 3 UK companies for money invested in R&D.
