have you run a connection test on the xbox settings to see if your NAT is set to open...

there are 3 levels on xbox

open
moderate
strict

if it's open then it's not the port forwarding that's the issue, maybe your ISP throttling your speeds at busy times

System settings / network settings / test xbox live connection (old dash)

New Nov 2010 Dash System settings / network settings / pick your type eg wired or wireless / test xbox live connection.

If it come back and says xbox live is up and running then you have an OPEN status for NAT and no problems were found

If it does say moderate or strict , check if your router is on … If it does say moderate or strict , check if your router is on Portforward.com and follow the instructions....http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

i have checked and can't find where it would tell me if it was moderate or strict

i can't find my router in the list it's a dlink from sky and none of the number on it match anything on the site

The open status for Nat is a good thing but moderate or strict would not* be causing your Lag.

No Port forwarding would result in a moderate or strict Nat type.

I would assume then that Upnp and DHCP are enabled in your router configuration. If not(some port forwarding has been setup) anyways easiest for anyone wanting ports opened is to just enable both upnp and dhcp and remove any port forwarding rules for udp 3074, 88 and tcp 3074

You should be checking your internet connection speed within the router mainly the line stats for snr / Db and attenuation to determine if maybe there is a fault with your line which is affecting your speed and latency or any FCC HEC errors etc.

Which modem/router model number etc are you using ?

Also if other users are using say you tube etc / downloading files/ streaming vids/ music etc at the same time as you use xbox live the bandwidth requirements go up and your xbox live service will deteriorate, visuals signs are lag/ freezing/ general slowness

I've just done a connection test and you are correct it doesn't tell you what your nat settings are open at any more, I know it used to on COD:MW2 in the multi-player lobby the screen before xbox live, but don't know if it does on black ops...

try portforward.com

^ if the xbox live test says up and running then its open , it tells (warns) you there are problems if moderate or strict is detected (up and running means OPEN and no problems found either locally or xbox live M$ status)

Mw2 will report NAT status but it's not always 100% accurate . It sometimes reports Strict when it's not.

deals for those kind of plugs get posted every month or so
hotukdeals.com/dea…165

Haven't used them myself (you will need at least 2 adaptors - one to plug your router into and one to plug the xbox network cable into)

please can anyone help to do port forwarding you need you router model, the router just has dlink12v---1a serial no.pvg81a8034496 and mac f07d6873e94b and thats it. Please help i am getting constent earache off son for lag and connection disruption and need to put it right. Port forwarding looks complicated.

When you did your xbox live test was there any pop ups after it had finished? If there were no pop ups then it should be open NAT settings.

The pop up if your settings are strict will say something along the lines of... You can connect to xbox live but you might have problems with party chat etc as your NAT settings are strict.

If there were no pop ups then NAT settings should be open and it is your ISP that might be the problem i.e throttling speeds at peak times.

Have you done a speed test on your PC? speedtest.net make sure nothing but the PC is connected to the internet when you test, and there is nothing like MSN in the background.

thanks for the help been onto my service provider and changed channels he says the speed and line are really good, satisfied son for the time being but i'm sure the lag will come back going to invest in some ethernet over powerlines when he gets his new xbox at christmas
