xbox360 live connection problem

hi all
i have recently got my daughter a xbox360 4gb with kinect, my son has the older 60gb with wireless adapter, when my daughter tries to connect to live it says it cant connect, either to the pc or the router or both, so i took advice for another member and used a wire to connect and it went on straight away, but my son then tells me his xbox has lost connection. So i remove the wire from the new xbox and tried wireless and after a few failed attempts it connected, but my sons is saying its connected but its not.
what is my problem here? is it my router , the god awful Belkin or is it i need to configure it in some way to except both live accounts at same time.

thanks for any help offered.

could be the connection speed, what is download rate? if you have two consoles trying to connect one will fail if you havent got fast internet

Used wired connection, much faster and reliable.

...Don't use Belkin hardware! "god awful" is one of the most polite descriptions I have seen in some time!

This aside...

Do you use the same router for other devices in your house, katya1971? Do they have any problems with connections when one (or both) of the consoles is using the line?

Do you know what wireless channel(s) the router is using, the model reference, &/or the security protocol being used? Have you checked the wireless settings on each console to see a) they are the same, & b) match the router settings?

Do you have any wireless "land line" telephones, wireless keyboards/mice, or any other wireless gadgets that may be interfering?

Later model belkins from 7633uk4 are one of the best routers for allowing 2 or more xbox 360's / ps3 to achieve an open status for NAT . Using UPNP and DHCP.

I've got loads of them that work. None of the netgears I have or linksys modem routers I have work with 2 or more with open Nat.

post the belkin model name on here and I'll see if I can remember If i've got that model and had it work with 2 or more 360's

If It's the same person that posted the same topic the other day did you manage to get it to work with 2x wired connections first ? or get the 4 gig version to work on live via a network cable ? actually I re read your op post at top and you did get it to work with wire.
post model number it's under router

forgot to say i have 2 ps3's as well only one currently online but we have issues with the online one regularly with all sorts of error codes.

if its the router im happy to get a replacement as im sick of the dropping connection, but i really don't know what one would be best as seems we have quite a lot of drain on our internet connection so probably need a higher rated one.

which version 1000,2000,3000,4000,5000

dlink 2740b has been known to work with 4 xbox 360's so theoretically you could split that to 2 360 2 ps3 .. you're cable or have a separate modem I have DSL broadband via a bt phoneline so all the things I have are really modem/routers(well aprt frm a couple olf 634-m dlinks routers that I never use) (i do(i think) have the modem equivalent of yours(need to check and cannot conenct it up to test at minute as downloading some xbox live games ) but with so many version eg 5 hardware revisions it would be hard to know where the fault lies or to compare)

You mention homeplugs as well I have never worked with those, I should really have just bought some to see/ configure, but tbh if i visited someones house to fix them it would be pretty straightforward after some initial checks but over the Internet not seeing a physical description of where they are plug and what is plugged in it can be difficult to learn about them or advise.

Edit just checked the unopened one i got is an f5d8633uk4a Ver 1013uk

log into router and look for the save bit to save your configuration and then save it to desktop ... call it no xbox 360

once you have saved the conf file , log back into router, enable upnp and enable dhcp apply/ok/save whichever

if there is an ip address in the dmz. write it down then remove it, save/apply/ok

if there is a section with port forwading and either of the xbox 360 ip addresses are in there/ remove them, if the ps3 ip addy is in there also remove it

make sure that the ps3 is off

pick channel 5 for wireless 20/40mhz .. you might also like to try setting to 802.11g only if you try everything with the setting 11b/11g/11n

(use wep or no wep to test) when you try WEP use 64bit and enter wep key as fce2647380 apply/OK save (it might not let you choose WEP when 802.11n is in use or WDS) disable WDS or switch it to being 802.11b/802.11g or just 802.11g

on your first 360 the older 60 gig use auto for IP and DNS and enter WEP as security and enter fce2647380 and apply test etc and see if xbox live works

making sure the 2nd xbox is off when doing the above.

...switch off 60 gig and turn on 4 gig and network settings and use AUTO for IP and auto for DNS (you have to have already turned on dhcp in router) set the WEP to fce2647380 and try and test

... if OK then switch on the other one and see what happens.

This is only with your modem into the belkin and no homeplugs connected or turned on just try the basics first to see how it gets on.

if all this is still no good then switch off the 360s .Turn on ps3 and if connected via wireless enter WEP fce2647380 or test with your WPA key first to see if UPNP is available (if its turned off now and you test it will not be but if after turning upnp and dhcp on in router your ps3 tells you that upnp is not available then you are stuffed with the gear you have ) you should then use the conf file you saved to desktop to restore your router to before I told you to start changing settings eg log into router and maintenance section and restore settings browse for the no 360 file and import / restore OK etc

!WARNING! If you get it wrong your router may never work again.

It's best to reset router back to defaults b4 and after firmware update but that means knowing how to set it back up to make your internet work etc. (restore your conf file does not always work between firmwares) you may actually be using the latest firmware it tells you on the router homepage which version you are using

Anyways try and set up as in my other post and see how that pans out before even thinking about updating the hardware (for me it's not a consideration only to those that maybe do not understand what it is they are actually doing attempting to do) do not want to sound too arrogant though as you may know more than enough.

If worst case scenario there are sometime recovery procedures either telnet, or hold in reset for 10-15 seconds whilst powering on the router to enable a web interface to restore firmware, you would need to set static ip on your PC to match the default of whichever router eg 192.168.2.1 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 (check with manual/ under router support homepage for router etc)

sorry for time delay in answering back, i have tried the settings you gave and they both signed in at same time, didnt try ps3 though did i need to do this also or only if the xbox360 didnt work?
what does this mean? i dont really feel a WEP key is a very secure thing.

wep is fine (depends on where you live eg how busy / main road neighbours etc) . WPA can be cracked as well not as fast as wep can but anyways I was only wanting to see if both connected. , start changing everything to use wpa now and pick your own key / phrase etc.

Do not use wpa2 on the older wireless on 60 gig (i may be wrong but I sort of recall it not being compatible with the older version so use WPA for a test to see if both connect ... you just need to change security in router to use wpa pick your word / phrase etc then set 1 xbox to use that phrase and test connection if OK set the other one up to use the same etc.

Then if you wanted to try WPA 2 then if it fails you know why.

edit seems they added wpa2 support via an update in 2009 (if it went ahead as I do not have a wireless adapter) actually that's not exactly true as I do but it's built into the 360s I bought from game last week for £149 but I ain't opened it yet to try, dunno if i ever will, I just bought it Co's it was such a good price :lol

thanks i see the logic but the 60gb has always connected but belkin drops frequently, but seems now there are two i have to reduce my security or maybe not as the link suggests WPA2 is supported.

so what is the reason why it only lets one xbox360 connect? would i be better off with a replacement router but not belkin?

i have major problems with my Y Cam as its been out of use more than in since i got it seems it picks up the settings then they go al wrong and it stops, everytime i ring the technical they remotely assist and reset it but a few weeks later its all not working again. drives me nuts.

Without seeing it disconnect etc hard to know, give it plenty of ventilation, Is it cable you have ? is there no problem with the modem ? I am not familiar with cable modems eg which ones are good ones etc.

To have 2 xboxes on live ... lots of people have issues eg 1 will say open the other moderate or strict.. ..

OPEN is no issues at all[Unless the person you are trying to invite / join is on moderate or strict), moderate can be where you cannot join certain games, voice comms does not work etc strict is even worse hit ratio of not being able to join, friends etc.

look on this site unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/ to see some modem / routers / routers that can handle 2 or more xboxes on live with NAT OPEN on both consoles.. ..Remember though enable upnp and dhcp in any new router you get with no port forwarding or dmz setup regardless of any site site showing you to enable all.... inc the one I link to below (maybe) use 1 option not all 3 . Well it's the only way I've been able to manage to get 2 or more xbox 360's ps3s to work on all the modem routers I have that have a good version of upnp implemented
