    Xmarks saved!

Anyone who uses Xmarks will know it was due to cease operating in Jan. They have just emailed to say they have been bought out.

    Am v.pleased about this :-)

    ===============================

Thank you for your continued support of Xmarks through this transitional time. After a near-brush with shutting down, we're now happy to report that Xmarks has been acquired by LastPass, the leading password and data manager.

The acquisition means two things for Xmarks users:

    1. Xmarks is NOT shutting down! It will continue to be the same free service that you know and love.

    2. Xmarks now offers a Premium service for $12 per year that includes the iPhone and Android apps, advanced features, and priority support.

We hope that as an active Xmarks user, you will consider upgrading to Xmarks Premium to gain access to these features. Your support will not only ensure our long-term viability, but will also help accelerate the introduction of new features and service improvements.

We're excited to continue providing the best data-syncing tools out there!

    Thanks,
    The LastPass and Xmarks Teams

It's genius IMO. I can have the same bookmarks at work & home and they stay synchronised :-)

    I'm easily pleased.

Essentially. It's unique in that it synchronises across multiple browsers - Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Safari (Mac OS). And also syncs to mobile devices. And remotely stores and backs up your bookmarks. And keeps copies of them each time they are changed, so you can restore back to a specific date. Nothing comes close to it.

    Boring and geeky I know.

If it suits you who's to blame, $12 seems steep though, obviously not useful to me though.

It does it cross platform, mac, pc, android, iphone, linux.

When xmarks said they were shutting down I moved to safari and mobile me sync and havent looked back, safari is faster than firefox on everything I use.

    Edit: was beaten to it!

right - with you now - might be handy then as I use IE, firefox and opera - I wonder if it would sync with dolphin HD on android too?

I don't get it, I can import /export my firefox bookmarks (main browser) into ie and even into my android browser fairly easily for free. so what extra does this do for the 12 bucks?

It synchronises them automatically ... not the same as exporting/importing.

    Example:

Laptop at home uses Firefox and I spend the evening online, changing/adding/deleting bookmarks. Close Firefox.

Next day at work, I open Internet Explorer and all the changes I made to my bookmarks at home last night are automatically there.

Additionally it can synch your passwords, history and even the tabs you left open on another computer.

All automatically. And it is all stored securely on Xmarks servers so if your PC crashes or whatever, you can restore your bookmarks.

    + it doesn't cost £12! It's free.

aaahh got it now, does seem rather handy although I'd rather keep some of my more fruity bookmarks safely confined to my comp.(_;)

Easy, you can setup "profiles" within Xmarks ;-)

    Or just memorise them man!
