I personally dont see the point atm, at least not until they exploit the RSX.

why would you bother at all??

Well, I would do it for playback of .MKV through Video Lan - but I hear the playback quality isnt that good - mainly because it is not accessing any graphics, but just the Cell.

You can also do normal PC stuff like browsed the net (properly with Firefox+IE, not the PS broswer), you can install apps similar to word, excel etc.

ah...i see. thanks for making that clear

not for me though, i'll keep my ps3 vanilla

Why install Linux on your PS3? It opens it up to be a PC instead although Sony are going in the right direction so far. Anyway, while we wait for Sony, I've got the disc and instructions that'll get you going with YDL and VideoLan which plays Divx, etc. Best advice I received was that if you screw things up, you only need to reset your PS3 and everything goes back to normal because the PS3 knows how to stay happy. You'll need 10Gb for YDL, 10Gb for the PS3 system files (yes your 60Gb version only has 50Gb left LOL) so you partition 20Gb for Linux use and the other 40Gb is left. Obviously if you have a 40Gb version, then it's an even split 20/20.

I can send you a copy of the disc and instructions for a small fee of a quid (Paypal accepted) if your desperate. Guaranteed to work cause I've done it, yes my PS3 is converted.

I'll keep an eye on this thread and if it proves popular, I'll post more details for contact.

    Cheers, Keith

Looks interesting, something to play about with on a rainy day. Have so far held out taking my ps3 apart so this should stop me for a few weeks.
