Yellow Light of Death on PS3 12,500 admitted broken consoles by Sony

Just wanted to Smile at all the PS3 Fanboys who keep going on about the xbox 360 breaking down with the Ring of death.

Now you have your own problem the "Yellow Light of Death", 12500 consoles is a lot to break down in the UK, and xbox Gamers least you can get your console fixed for Ring of death and single light of death for 3 years, where as Sony charge £128 after the 1 year warrenty.

    Xbox = Gamers

PS3 = showoffs who now cant show off about the broken consoles lol

    P.S. I have a PS3, 360 & a Wii

So what do you all think Discuss, while I get my popcorn

    ok......

2 million+ PS3s sold in the UK - so thats a fraction of a percent in total. Compare to 30%+ failure rate of Xbox 360 (I'm not a massive fan of either, but the two don't really compare in terms of failure rate!)

Maybe its because the xbox 360 actually gets used for hours a day with all the excellent games and amazing graphics it produces, where as the ps3 just gathers dust and the odd film goes through it.

Have i just started a war

No way, that high? Actually I think I'm thinking of 30% RROD, I'm guessing 54% is all types of failure within 3 years?

Doesn't really matter how much its used in a day, its on-off/hot-cold cycles that kill it. Lots of CE is used as much or more than your console - very few products have ever been released with as high a failure rate as the 360. Its not a bad console, but it is a bad, rushed to market design and that has been very costly for Microsoft (and their consumers...)

ive had both and no problem with either i bought a rrod console a few months ago sent it back replaced with what appears to be brand new console so cant complain

are new xboxes better made to avoid rrod or just same amount of new ones breakng as older models?

did the guys on watchdog actually manage to fix it??? i flicked over to watch corrie and missed it :-(

More mature - not necessarily better made but a more advanced process so they should run cooler and avoid most of the problems that caused RROD in the first place. The warranty system works but the problem will have ultimately cost Microsoft billions in repair/replace costs alone (not thinking about PR) - if it had been literally any other company (including Sony) it could have spelt the end for not just the product but the company as a whole!

360's and PS3s suffer from the same problem. EG did an article on the company that fixes both. They have the same problem, although the older 360's had a higher failrate than the orginal PS3s, they are now much more reliable. We'll soon see how reliable the Slims are...

    btw, I own a PS3 add me - emhaslam

how many of those broken consoles were the original 60gb

European warranty is 2 years. Sale of goods act is 6 years. Someone take Sony to small claims court if they have this yellow led of death after the year. See what Sony do then!

I own all three too, still have launch 360 and 60gb PS3, I prefer the Trey

While they are not directly comparable, I do find it funny how the ps3ers are desperately trying to play this down having (rightly) savaged the x360 for its failure rates for years.

hahahahha, PS3 users literally have NOTHING in terms of ammunition any more when it comes to PS3 vs 360. It's quite ironic that users of this forum even have PS3's when the site is HOTUKDEALS. That PS3 purchase is lookin' like a pretty cold deal now. (I say "now", it was never hot in the first place).

It's a shame users don't all use each of their consoles for the same amount of time to get a fair analysis.

    *Wii 10 hours over 52 weeks. Ps3 10-40 hours[most of that is updating firmware/software] over 52 weeks. Xbox 360 1- 11 hours everyday

That's how much I have used my consoles over the last year.

the ps3 has a blu-ray player, a awesome dvd upscaler and most importantly a web browser that makes iplayer possible. plus its better value for money when u take into account, a blu-ray player, the wireless capablility and 120gb hard drive

cant argue that the xbox 360 has a few better games but wats the point when u have to send it back 4 times a year?

i have all 3 current gen consoles BTW.

I have a bluray player on my pc. Imagine if, (sorry forgot the yellow light of death), WHEN your PS3 dies....so does your bluray player, and browser and whatever else.

Of course if you buy a 360 and blu ray drive separately, you wont have this problem and it will STILL be cheaper than buying a PS3 on its own.

this wasnt the case at one point...the ps3 was actually only a small percentage more then a stand alone bluray player for early adopters...

    your missing the point!!

Firstly I already said, The failer rate is from all APART from the new Slim, so you are saying what I did, wow cleaver

2nd I do get that and have sort of said that in a bad way in the orignal post, I think its a joke that Sony wont fix it for free, but until they admit it AND ALL THE PS3 owners admit that the PS3 has a flaw, they will never increase there warrenty like Microsoft has, its threads like this that will get them changing there minds
