Your Classic Movie suggestions

Hope I am posting this on the right board. I am getting well into my black and white movie classics and what you would think are modern day classics........okay no offence but it beats the **** out of what they put out nowadays What I would like to know is your recommendations of Classics. If I give you a few examples, i have the original classics like Casablanca, The Great Escape, African Queen, True Grit (okay dont kill me im a John Wayne fan), Its Wonderfull Life, Cool Hand Luke, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, St Trinians all four films, Gone With The Wind Steptoe and Son films and series, On the Buses films.......Im hoping you are drawing a picture up here and can give me recommendations of your own Classics that you think are worth a watch. I hope someone can give me some more DVD popcorn and red wine heaven in the watching :-D

Thanks topbanana, Im going on personal recommondations so will def have a look at Miracle on 34th Street as I am going more on the oldies than the kids thing (excuse my sense of humour but couldnt eat a whole one:whistling: ). Im looking to build up my dvd collection and on these up and coming winter nights the nice happy comfy movies....you know the sort, the ones that make you feel all warm inside and dont want to switch the telly off, the ones that have you gripped and think "did it really last nearly two hours?"

Dirty Harry?

My all time b&w fave is the Ronald Colman version of Lost Horizon. (Make sure it's not the inferior version starring Peter Finch).

My fave classics are Dr. Strangelove, North by Northwest, Some Like it Hot, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Third Man, The Good the Bad and the Ugly...Modern Classics that u may not have seen cud be City of God, Brazil and more recently films like Sunshine and Zodiac were bloody awsome

what about Twelve Angry Men? A great film and so well acted - no reliance on special effects, just a great script, Henry fonda at his best and Quincy too...

For sheer quality (!!!) you cant miss out on "Caddy shack" with Bill Murray playing a psycho grounds man after a small, cunning Gopher
Classic film.

I just love all the laurel ans hardy movies, matalan have a whole range of 20 to collect at £4 each or 3 for £10 and they are great. They include a digitally restored version that is turned into colour!

My favourite black and white films have to be the ealing comedies, Kind hearts and corenets, Whisky galore, The ladykillers etc all classics.

Apart from the many mentioned already,I have to admit a fondness for the old Sherlock Holmes movies with Basil Rathbone.

Often broadcast during the christmas holiday season, they are well worth a watch.:)

The Philadelphia Story, Bringing up baby, To kill a mockingbird, Father of the Bride (original), Captains Courageous.......
