Way too many for top 5 but Point Break is definitely up there.
1 titanic
2 shawshank redemption
3 the silence of the lambs
4 saving private Ryan
5 forest gump.

Talking about the absolute masterpiece here, forget about marvel and its fictions...

No particular order but top 5 which immediately spring to mind are :

- Das Boot (The German speaking subtitled full length version, not the shorter 'cuts' and certainly not the version with dubbed American accents)
- Seven - such a wonderfully dark and depressing film..
- The Godfather (part 1)
- Citizen Kane.
- Heat.

Shame 95% of the films now released are utter lightweight drivel with a similar quality of acting.
1. Schindlers List
2. Goodfellas
3. The Elephant Man
4. Casino
5. Oliver!

I watched the IMDB Top 250 in 2011/2012.

I'd highly recommend it if you want to watch the best of the best.

imdb.com/cha…top

I'm considering watching this list:

empireonline.com/mov…ms/
I'll mention some not listed above -

Dead Poets Society, Spartacus, Legends of the Fall, Last of the Mohicans, Dances with Wolves

We go to the pics most weeks currently and I'm afraid they just "don't make them how they used to!"

In no particular order:

Dragonball Evolution
Pixels
Alone in the Dark

Batman vs Superman

In all seriousness, top 5 is too difficult to shortlist do so I'll just namedrop some:

Pan's Labyrinth
King of Comedy
The Dark Knight Trilogy
Children of Men
Oldboy (2003)
The Thing (1982)
Falling Down (1993)
Wind River
Get Out
Train to Busan
Parasyte (2019)

Not yet - we go on Tues/Weds to use Meercat - we both get for £4.99 at Vue.

My daughter and partner saw it yesterday and found it a bit dark, not particularly violent but suggested we only go if we can't find anything else. We saw 'Judy' this week - very different genre and not a classic but I enjoyed it.

Yeah best and favourite/most entertaining are definitely two different things.

A lot of people will quote Citizen Kane as one of their favourite films when it is most likely that they mean that they think it is one of the best films ever made.

As entertainment it's pretty average and nothing on Monty Python's Life of Brian for example!

Or...
Saving private Ryan
Blazing saddles
Toy story
The usual suspects
Deadpool
Another way to watch a lot of good movies is to watch the back catalogue from a certain director.

Directors with a host of great films are a good bet. Something like:

Stanley Kubrick
Quentin Tarantino
Alfred Hitchcock
Steven Spielberg
Martin Scorsese

Now there's a film. Set just down the road from me. Changed a bit since then. Went to a birthday party in the club where they filmed the gang bang scene once. The author died tragically young

I rewatched it at some point over the last couple of years via All 4.

It doesn't look like it's on there now:

Some other Northern classics:

Naked
Kes
This Is England
1) The Godfather
2) The Godfather Part II
3) Die Hard
4) Zulu
5) Watchmen/Goodfellas/Casino/Carlito’s Way/Donny Brasco/Unbreakable.

Too many to mention, but you get the drift.

Yes, there are some great, low budget Brit flicks. I, Daniel Blake is another.

Not forgetting Raining Stones of course
