A poppy with such a long stem won't look right.

Great idea. Well said.

The poppy in the header and stopping people posting, not the picture of your bits.:D

I'm up for both.

Great Idea but I do worry that we will have to go a whole 1 minute without a Political Agenda thread starting, and I am not sure certain members could handle that..

Yeah the stopping posting privileges was more tongue in cheek but imagine the press it could possibly pick up for doing so! Doubt it's been done on a forum before?

Should certainly have a poppy in the header though as this site is tailored to the United Kingdom.

What a silly response. If you don't show your respects that's up to you. I would like to think the majority of people have an ounce of decency in them though.

It's not a silly response at all. People shouldn't be forced to observe a minute's silence.

Forcing people to do or not to do something is not a sign of respect, its a act of repression, you can't force people to show respect it is a voluntary act.

Are you suggesting that HUKD should turn the minute's silence on Remembrance Day into some sort of advertising stunt?

It is not compulsory but is greatly appreciated by those it helps – our beneficiaries: those currently serving in our Armed Forces, veterans, and their families and dependants.

According to the British Legion website

It is especially poignant for me because my grandfather was one of the relatively few who fought in and was decorated in both WW1 and WW2. He died almost exactly 47 years ago and this is my way of remembering him.

I find 'In Flanders Fields' an incredibly moving poem. There's a lot of other WW1 poetry as well that brings home to you the horrors of that war.

Yet Britain fought another war barely 20 years later and, somewhere or other, there is always a war going on. One day, the human race will succeed in wiping itself out.

Would be a great gesture if a poppy could be fixed to the header for the day, they can do it for those silly reindeer for weeks ;). I doubt that it will happen though, but hope I'm wrong.

I would love to see half of you Lilly livered ******* on here go though half of what the war generation did, you are only able to spend time on here saying the crap you do because of them

yes they should

My God, no wounder this country is going down the pan

I agree, to any level of observance. Wear a poppy, observe the silence. Not much to ask, for what was given for us. Disrespectful to treat it like just another day. 'Lest we forget' ? Well, let's not. Thank you, op, for this post. Oh, it's 2 minutes silence.

You can't force people to show respect, its laughable to make such demands you render a voluntary act into a meaningless mandatory one thus you will only be kidding yourself that people care.

Ever heard the saying its the thought that counts and theres another apt on too, you can take a horse to water but you cant make it drink

Isn't the point of a forum that people with different opinions should discuss them? If you don't like discussion then don't start a thread.

You should, perhaps, read your opening post and the first few responses again. Some people don't regard Remembrance Day as something to have a childish snigger about.

miles136

yes they shouldMy God, no wounder this country is going down the pan

Sorry miles, gotta disagree with you. It shouldn't be forced.

I for one simply feel compelled to observe the silence out of respect for those that sacrificed their lives for us, and hope that everyone else here does also - but if others choose not to, that is entirely up to them.

Forcing a silence doesn't make the silence any more respectful, those that wish to ignore it will simply ignore it regardless, whether it be here, facebook, another website or in the real world.

This site certainly shouldn't use it as a publicity stunt, that would just be crass and disrespectful.

Annnnnnnnnnd........... WE'RE OFF!!!

Another example of how something so tounge in cheek (many a true word said in jest) can be taken out of all proportion and hijacked by the few with their "own" agenda, views and irrelevant comments - on a post that was ...... in the main enjoyable for the masses, and then the minors attack it.
