Yes, I see what you mean. Unless you can suggest something to stop this... other than making it compulsory in the first post...

Then make pics compulsary? Most folks would sooner buy summat with a pic, that's my thoughts and seems to be in the main what folks say cos they often ask for pics don't they? I'd only reluctantly buy from an ebay sale with a "stock photo" or none at all.....
Thanks for seeing what i mean lol

Why not disallow pics if they are not posted within 'x' hours, this would get rid of the free 'bump', the next day.

Posts without pics would draw little attention, thus removing the incentive to post "I'm at work, will post pics later" :whistling:

Sometimes there can be more than one solution to a problem?

Edit: Just had a point raised by a mod which is that it would go against the post editing rules

Anything is going to be a pain to moderate, you got people wanting to sell their jewels for as much as they can get. It needs to be fair for everyone and with continual abuse it isnt. I just thought if "all" pictures and "all" information where in first post then it would make it fairer, but again abuse would happen and back to the moderating question

Actually, I suggested it at 10:34:00. Admin is considering it for the update. I think it would be very good. And if the first thing you post cannot be edited, only added too, same as the current deal posts.

So is it against the rules to edit the first post :?

I think anything that can be done is great, but it is never gone stop abuse of bumping, ripping off etc, etc. It will always need greater moderation whatever you do

Great idea, although not everyone has a camera and someone could just nick an image from elsewhere....... perhaps the "name on sheet of paper" could also be a rule?

Sassie, I've seen people edit their first posts and delete items off, so I presume its do-able......

if thats the case, they shouldn't be allowed to sell anything

Can you guys brainstorm some fields that may be useful if this is implemented?

E.g.

Thread title
Description
Far sale/ trade?
Pick up / collection?
Location
Price
Postage included?

Banned

deffo a picture link emma, i also think if all fields cannot be filled in, then it shoudnt go live

also would probably need different templates for sale, trade, wanted, althought the latter probably wouldnt need one

Thank you for the continued discussion about this folks
I like what has been said so far, all sounds good.

As for editing 1st post, yes you can, cos i did it on mine; i removed it all cos the item had attracted no interest and a mod, Millercat i believe did what i requested and removed the thread completely
(Thanks Millercat btw )

The template idea is good. As well as your list Emma, how about:

ebay member name (if applicable, similar to existing rule 4) and paypal (rule 6)

I know when you "list" on ebay and you add more information, it does not get added to the original for sale, but is appended lower down.

Title -
Link to picture - Put instructions here also to explain how to do it
Item description - Include as much detail as possible - i.e condition, reason for selling perhaps?
Price -
P&P -
Item location - For pick up purposes
Payment methods - PayPal/Bank transfer/Cheque/COD
Feedback - List User ID's to show other feedback, i.e eBay, AVForums etc...
Expiry date If seller wants to end it at a certain time or maybe make all FS posts expire after say 10 days...

Just a quickie idea...may have another think when at home

Banned

emma just an idea but maybe a thread started on this board about your idea

even better get admin to post it and then everyone will come in for at least a nosey ;-)

can a mod or Admin tell me if its possible to 'choose' who you sell an item to? sounds harsh but i want to list a mobile in a few days and dont want to risk paypal snatching back any funds paid through a transaction which turns out to be fraudulent? i'd rather trade with a more established user?

Yeah of course loupomm. It's not ebay. It's up to you who you want to sell to. (well not based on price discrimination etc). If someone looks dodgy etc then you're under no obligation to sell to them! I would just say in the listing that you're looking for senior members or people who will send money up-front.

 I'd like to see a format like that. And also to get rid of sellers posting things like - I'm an honest seller, you can trust me or i've done loads of deals etc.. as you are only as good as the current deal and past history has been shown in some cases to mean nothing at all (beerman1 to name just one), plus all that would be covered in the links to feedback.

Also maybe add something like expected turnover time for delivery as sometimes you pay for something and are still waiting a week later as they've not had time to send it. So if that could be posted initially it can help you form a decision if it's worth buying and waiting for.

Also it would be nice to see something done about the people who post persistant low offers and offer trades when it's been stated that trades aren't wanted. Also the constant "HOW MUCH?!?!?" posts as if it's too much for you then move on to the next thread. If someone is asking too much then it will soon drop off the radar and they'll know the next time.

Also i think it would be great if as mentioned before original thread posts don't appear on the board until they've been moderated as that could help cut down on scams and people just spamming the forum.

lol, im still waiting for seanbwfc to give me my motorla v3 box and refund for giving me a broken 3210 which he said was working. PMED about 10 times replied but nothing done. Mostly because i paid via b/t if it was paypal i would have started a dispute a.s.a.p

If it is simply a mod's time, i am happy to check thru the for sale forum and if i see summat that *i* think is amiss, i am more than happy to report it, but if there is no need, or not required then fine
I think as a board, community we should try and look after our own.
I hope the mods don't get sick of me reporting stuff, but when i have they have dealt with them in a reasonable time, no straightaway but then again they have lives too. I am not saying i am always right, but i don't seem to do bad.
Would just prefer that sales go thru and no one get's Alex182'ed if that is a verb

As for Seanbwfc, i cannot say, but sounds like a Bolton Wanderer's fan; nuff said :giggle:

Given her posts, i am sure Sassie would be more than happy to help too

We think that if you're in doubt about someone's post, it is best to just report it. It's probably best not to post about the rules in the thread in question as it could lead to confusion as to who the actual official moderators are there... if you see what I mean. Some people have quite a high post count and could be mistaken as moderators.

I do this, because the problem with waiting for a moderator is it can be 30mins+ till a mod views a report and acts on it, in that time a deal could easily be done!

Slightly off topic, but I reported a newbie who had a name that is very similar to a mods. I reported it well over 1 hour ago, now nothing has been done so does that mean I was wrong to report it? I remember the 'good old days' when a mod used to PM or email an acknowledgement or thanks.
I know, they are busy blah blah but sometimes I feel ignored when I report something.

I've removed some posts. Please don't derail an otherwise constructive thread. If you want to post personal messages take it to pm.

Just been reading the for sale/trade forum again.
It's funny how many threads are bumped more than twice, break the rules on advertised elsewhere, i know we've been down the subject of pics but they do help to sell an item.

Anyways, how about a tickbox/radio button, like when you install software, that you have read and accept/abide by the rules of the for sale forum? If you list summat that breaches the rules, it can be withdrawn straight away and when folks complain, "you" can just say, well you read and accepted the rules when you posted the thread.....just a thought
