Fine here for me with Firefox 3.

I've heard of problems with FF3 blurring images when you 'zoom', but not text. Try going to view -> zoom -> reset and see if you've accidentally zoomed in? The font is dictated by the site itself, not the browser - unless you specifically tell it to over-ride the site and use a particular font for all websites, which I'm assuming you've not done.

Yeah thanks, I had tried that already. Having the same problem with IE6. Will try updating my graphics drivers.

do you know if you have 'cleartype' turned on or off? its a font smoothing thing which I have heard can be a bit odd sometimes

Yep. Sounds like a cleartype issue. I turned it off for the same reason.

Thanks for the advice. Cleartype was already turned off, when I tried turning it on it looked even worse! Graphics driver update made no difference. I suspect the HUKD may have made a change to their fonts. I guess I'll just have to live with it.

having had a quick squiz at the code for the site, UKHD uses 'Trebuchet,Helvetica,sans-serif' for the fonts, meaning it'll display in Trebuchet, if yuo don't have that font on your PC it'll use Helvetica and then if both of those fail it'll pick a 'sans serif' font, usually Arial, all standard fonts which shouldn't be casing you issues really.

Try this. go to...

tools -> options -> content -> advanced (under fonts/colours)
set the font to 'Arial' and untick the 'allow pages to choose their own fonts' tick box.

this should force sites to use Arial as their sans serif font, if that doesnt work I dunno what else to suggest!!

H E R O !

All sorted now, thanks a lot. Wonder why HUKD uses such an obscure font?

Trebuchet isn't really an obscure font, its just not as commonly used as Arial or Verdana.

All websites use the fonts from YOUR machine, which is why they usually all use the same handful of 'safe' fonts everyone should have, which includes Trebuchet. Trebuchet and Verdana were both designed specifically to be easy to read on-screen - which makes your issue even more baffling!

but anyway, glad thats sorted it for you
