That one is in the too difficult pile too!Worse though is being in the middle of a multi paged thread, to click reply, then have to find the post again (on whatever page it might have been on) and do it again.Still. Dont worry. You'll be pacified with an important different coloured badge in the next few weeks to compensate for these riduculous unfixed bugs.

you Sir, are spot on!

why concentrate on 'improving' the features with so many basic bugs outstanding?

Love the new 'save a deal' option that can only be used whilst on a mobile but only viewed on the main site

what Einstein thought that arrangement up?

dont even get me started on why the search option is as broken as ever!

We haven't put this into the bug list, its in the feature request list. We are not really sure on how to go about making it multi quote friendly. One possibility is just allowing you to hit the quote button several times and it doesn't overwrite what is in the box, but it would still scroll you to the bottom of the page. We could start with that though while we think about a better way to allow multi quoting without putting in more buttons.

I dont have any problems with the quote system, one click and the quote is in the reply box.I'm using Google chrome, if that makes any difference.

Yep I'm on Chrome too and it works great for me.

Well it doesnt in IE or Firefox.

I`m using Firefox, I clicked `Reply to this message` once and your post is quoted. I seem to be having no problem with it.

EDIT - Does it only mess up if it`s a multi-page thread? Like if you were to reply to a post on page 2 of 4, or something?

(Having to re-click [Reply to this comment] seems to be localised to Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.x for me; Mozilla Firefox is OK. hodsey77 first raised this issue in August/September last year. She even recorded/uploaded a video to demonstrate what was happening & provided a link in the first "bugs/issues" thread that is no longer available to view)

Some people sort of missed my point about what bug I am referring to.

Basically, when replying to a post, the original post gets all the carriage returns removed. This is most definitely a bug and occurs about 20% of the time.

see post #14 and my original in post #13

We will definitely have a look at browser compatibility with the quote button, and probably while we are at that we will add in quote concatenation so you can hit the quote button multiple times and have the quoted text appear.

Just so it is clear, the bugs you are referring to are:

1) I takes more then one click of the quote button to quote a piece of text (seems like a problem in IE)
2) Sometimes when you quote a piece of text the line feeds are removed

Yes, IE8, W7 here It's not so much that you need to click twice, it's that you click once and the reply briefly appears in the reply box but then goes away, leaving you looking at a blank box, so you have to scroll to find the post that you wanted to quote again and that is a real pain.

Also if you are writing a reply and click to a different page to check on something, the whole reply disappears into the void.

This happens when I use Microsoft Internet Explorer (7.x, as I mentioned above) & clicking [Reply to this comment] is the first task I undertake (except scrolling to the specific comment).

Once bounced back to the top of the page again (with the "Leave a Reply" text-box now empty) I can use the [Reply to this comment] link again (as many times as I wish to) without issue.

Moving (forward or backward) to another page in the same threaf then "resets" the behaviour & I have to repeat the first reply action for a second time.

Can you locate the previous Feedback thread with the video hodsey77 created to demonstrate the problem?

At the time I could not replicate the issue (as I was using MS-Internet Explorer 8.x) but in 7.x it happens on each & every occasion.

With respect to the loss of carriage return/line feed characters; I have never quoted a message & seen these characters be retained! I reguarly edit the quoted text to make it more readable, or split multiple quotes so they are not embedded but are shown sequentially.

That is, I edit multi-quoted responses to...

If it's not a bug, how come it does different things in different browsers?

How come you do stupid things like add new badges when there are so many bugs still outstanding?

Please read the rest of the discussion about valid bugs that were brought up after that statement and their acknowledgement.

It seems like the problems with strange things happening when you hit the quote button are limited to IE, have any of you had those problems in a browser other then IE?

I don't know if I would go that far, just fyi here are some stats on who uses what on HUKD:

Internet Explorer 38.33%
Firefox 25.75%
Chrome 15.97%
Safari 15.29%

and if you break up IE usage:

8.0 74.39%
7.0 15.84%
6.0 7.49%
9.0 2.27%

So maybe if you're using IE 8, its about the same as firefox users, but anything other then that and its definitely in the minority of users.

We are definitely going to fix it for IE browsers though.

rather than argue the toss over what is the more popular browser why can't you just have a website that works. I've never seen such an incompetent display in that 8/9 months after an update the website still doesn't work. just fix things and have a working fully functional site like 99% of the rest of the internet. it honestly cannot be that difficult.

If you know of something that is a problem that we have not acknowledged, please feel free to post it in a new thread and we will definitely get to work on fixing it. We put out bug fixes and updates pretty much every day to the site, and we are trying to clear up some of the bugs with more fringe functionality though, as well as get into feature requests that have been sitting around for a while.

there is a difference in acknowledging something and actually doing anything about it. one look through the locked bug threads will show that. one example that still annoys me is this,

http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll55/ants97/hukdsdogsdin.jpg

I've brought this up loads of times yet 9 months later your website still has a layout problem. If you need anymore info from me then you can trawl the through main bug threads and get it from there. nothing on my end has changed.

not to mention IE may be the most popular (down from 80% share in just a few years) but its mainly lightly used by noobs who are too scared to try the better browser so would defo say its not the most used browser.

I have just cleaned up the reply code a little bit, there should be no more phantom jumping around to the top of the screen in IE.

The two other bugs that I get out of here are:

No line feeds when quoting text:
Can you please let me know what browser you are using and give me a couple examples of quotes where the line feeds are not translating, so it easier for me to replicate?

Problem quoting links:
Still working on this one

acknowledged and fixed aren't the same you know - there are still problems outstanding from the original bug report thread that you locked, then seems to have disappeared, that was from way before Christmas.

The "space" (single line) at the beginning of the quoted message & the new caret (text insertion point) location is the same for me regardless of web browser.

Yesterday whilst I was using a Microsoft Windows (Vista) PC, with Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 installed, the quoted text was as you described; in one continuous line (without line feeds &/or carriage return characters).

Today (whilst using a Microsoft Windows 7 PC environment) & Mozilla Firefox 3.6.15 the quoting of text is as you would expect; line feed/carriage returns present.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.16385, however, is not correct.

Google Chrome 10.0.648.133 is as expected too.

Summary:

MS-IE 7.x incorrect (yesterday, cannot test again until Monday)
MS-IE 8.x incorrect (today)

Mozilla Firefox 3.x correct (today)
Google Chrome 10.x correct (today)

Which web browser (& on which platform/operating system) are you finding the continued issue, dcx_badass?

Please read the hundreds of threads on here regarding bugs and maybe after you have done that decide that maybe, instead of making sarcastic comments, your time might be better spent fixing the numerous bugs that have existed for months.
Whatever you have done with this one has made it worse. The quoting system is now terrible.

I have put up some fixes for IE browsers that resolves the problem with missing line breaks. Also gets rid of the extra space at the top of the quotes on your first quote. If its alright with you can we post up any issues related to how the quoting works in general in a new thread, so it doesn't get lost in here as I think this thread has been hijacked by the bugs.

Even if that spacing is not related to a specific browser it is less than ideal; especially for mobile users scrolling down a page full of replies of that nature.
