Seems to work as (I think is) expected, in Mozilla Firefox 34.0.5 (with "ppp=60"):

Microsoft Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17239 also shows the same comment (#16) for me.

Both tests using the "latest" skin (post-September 2011); not the "New Responsive" ("NFE") design.

I'm able to see what post #14 has posted as well as being able to click the link and my comments per page is set to 60, I am using an iPad.

I can confirm that Firefox and Chrome work fine for me.
I would have thought getting it right on The Worlds most popular browser ( Depending who you believe ) would be the first thing to do.
I do remember a few years ago someone on the development team admitted they didn't have IE available. Perhaps that is why.

has never linked properly for me, people should be forced into 60 anyway for their own good!

Have I read that right? at 58% ( excluding mobiles ) IE has more usage than everything else put together? Or am I wildly mistaken there?

That is correct; however, 58% of the laptop/desktop market is nowhere near the quantity it used to be because of the take-up of mobile ("Smartphone"/tablet/netbook/etc.) devices.

Your test link in comment 1 anchors fine for me using Win7/IE11 with comments per page set to 60.

Do you have a screenshot of the error?

Original Poster

This is what I see if my posts per page are set to 60, or even 40 for that matter.
When set to 20, it is fine.

There are 26 comments in that thread which equals 2 pages when comments per page are set to 20.
It is only 1 page when comments per page is set to 40 or 60.

The url has "?page=2" at the end of it. I suspect this is where the problem lies.

I provided a screenshot like you asked.
Have you now abandoned me?
What about my other FEEDBACK posts? Should I not bother anymore, or will they get looked at / commented on?

Admin

I cannot replicate it, I'm afraid.

So I change my settings to 60 and click e.g. this link hotukdeals.com/dea…610

And it anchors me there fine. Also tried in IE11. Do you have the problem with this exact link?

^^^^^^^^^^ Sorry, but I got that wrong. I had assumed that 'cos I had set "Comments/Page" to 60 in IE, it was set for all browsers, but I have since realised that was so wrong. ( I only normally use IE so wasn't aware other browsers had other cookies. ) This is a problem for me in IE, Firefox and Chrome.

What seems glaringly obvious to me, is that the link, " hotukdeals.com/tag/ask…e=2 ", has page=2 on the end of it. So when you have comments set to 60 per page, then there will be no page 2 as there aren't more than 120 comments.

Does that make sense?

Yes, it was always that way Phil, even in the old skin. A link to a comment should take you to that comment and a link to a page will take you to that page. As you say, if comments are set to 60 and there are less than 61 comments, there will be no page 2. HTH

I see what you're saying I guess my question there is where do you actually get this link from the ones I am seeing just add the thread id like this: ?p=24424610

If you follow Phil's link in post 1 and scroll to post 13 of that thread you'll see someone has posted a link to another thread. That link ends with page=2.

You used to be able to right-click on a post number, copy the address, post it in a different thread and it would link directly to that comment. Occasionally, people would copy the thread address from the address bar instead and, if they were on page 2, for example, the link would include page=2 and send you to page 2 which sometimes didn't exist, depending on your ppp setting. Nothing's changed there, but ...

Right-clicking on a post number now doesn't do anything. You have to click on a post number (Jump to comment #xx) then copy the address from the address bar to link directly to a specific comment (not that actually linking to a comment will take you to that comment, just some random point on that page, as reported elsewhere). It's not obvious that that's how you have to do it and I guess more people might start copying addresses without clicking on the post number first and Phil will end up with more "Crikeys".

Unless I'm mistaken, there's been no official word from the site on how to use the NFE (I'm just going by the number of "How Do I Search For Voucher" threads there have been in the last few weeks). Has no one from HUKD thought of creating a thread explaining the changes and linking to it through a site-wide banner? Does the NFE support site-wide banners? Do the staff know how to create them? Can they be bothered or will they just leave users work it out?

tl;dr - site fails, user moans about it, nothing changes.

Have a read of the OP.
It says "Take a look at post #14 in the thread that I am posting in post #1.".
That has now changed to post #13, not post #14, as someone must have deleted 1 of their comments.
That's where the link is.

Meant to add, when I was posting a link pointing Melted to my post above, I noticed if you click on the numbers or arrows to get to a specific page then click on a post number you end up with the page number and comment number after the thread number in the address bar which, if your ppp is set differently to the person posting the link, will lead to the Crikey! page.

Ah, but the reason it is not obvious to me is the link obtained by clicking on the post number doesn't take my browser to the correct post...

I don't think it takes anyone to the right post. For me it seems to alternate between the OP and the footer.
