I think there is a set of words that are ignored by the search engine, "The", "And" and the like, but why "Taken"?
It would be nice if developer posted that list in here so that we know what is and what isn't worth trying to use when searching.

Fixed.

There's a lot of unexpected words in the default stopword list.

you may well have fixed this bug for the word 'taken' but dont you think it would have been logical to do it for the other common search words or shall we raise a bug for every word of the stopword list?

e.g. search for 'eight' finds nothing

I was thinking the same thing. It will be reviewed.

Wow, I can see what is in the list, my next question is why is there such a list?

( I appreciate it is not HUKD specific. )

Sorry, I don't buy that.
How can excluding a few hundred words make the search more efficient?
Stick "Taken" into Google and you get 629 million hits in 0.07 seconds.

Now I can understand omiting some words like "and", "the", "to" and such, but not the vast majority of words in that list.
It just means that anybody searching for anything that happens to be on that list will get a zero return.

When I wrote our version of SOUNDEX for the company I worked for we had an ignore list of words.
If I remember rightly it was no more than 40 words.

Fanpages, you may be right, but it does indeed appear to be fixed.

my !!!!!!! were sarcastic ones
seems taken is fixed but words like cause (just cause) and actually (love actually) etc still ignored

Historically, stop words exist not for performance/efficiency reasons, but for relevance reasons.

Generally speaking (i.e. outside of the context of these few titles), words like [cause, taken, actually, etc.] are filler words. So, originally, including words like those in your query and results could only have undesirably effects and potentially lead to irrelevant material.

Previous discussion here:
[ hotukdeals.com/fee…785 ]

(No doubt one of many threads on the subject [yes, I may be able to use the Search facility to find them], but this thread was created by "Developer").

BFN,

fp.

A quick refresh shows me that everybody in this thread (& probably site-wide) is now a Helper ("Here to lend a helping hand").

lucky we have the filtered words else standard search could be considered useless?
