Obviously this could not be used as a method to attack anyone,

Which it would exclusively be used for in "The Misc".

very good idea.

i agree

Totally agree mate this would stop all the agro!

like i said, any abuse of this privilege would result in the likes of you and others making a report for a mod to look in to it..

But overall i think those "pointless comments" made by people in threads can be removed by the OP without issue..

And tbh, your comment is a bit defeatist, this is designed to help stop this sort of thing going on..

How would a member like "me" know that the OP had removed a post?

you as well as many others that read threads and get involved, will notice that posts may go missing or threads are being created with cirtain members being banned from it (ie abusing the privilege) and therefore will report that matter for a mod to look in to it..

Surely 'pointless comment' is in the eye of the beholder so to speak, so you are suggesting that the op of a thread should have the ability to erase everything he/she does not like, my suggestion here is to step away from the computer and invite a few like minded people round for a conversation instead.

going against the current grain .
I think it's a bad idea if you think about it. Any negativityproblem that ppl might wanna know about certain products woud dissapear and is also open to some abuse.

I agree with your comment, but then those instances would be reported to the mod team to look into, they ultimatly have the ability to see all the posts that were there.. So if people feel there is an issue, like with everything else, a report can be made.

in my opinion

sounds like more work then its worth, as your end up creating more work for admins/mods etc then less, and if if someone has the power to do things like this it will be abused.

Less work for mods to do unless it gets abused, are you saying that the majority of the 200,000 users would abuse this privilege?

I would be willing to bet the ones who cause most work for the mods at the moment would, yes.

Which is indeed hitting the nail on the head:thumbsup:

If some members are so upset by certain posts that the want the ability to erase them from the internets, maybe they're not up to this whole internets talkings lark:whistling:

Doesn't really make sense. How would I know that a moderator hasn't removed the post after a report?

To then report that a post that they had removed seems to be more reports for the mods to be dealt with. That they do not need.

You are not really understanding it fully if you believe that, as the members that you are alluding to wouldn't remove posts that they do not want on "their" thread.

Quite the opposite would happen, as it would be the "internet bullies" that would remove comments (or the members they do not like in all likelihood) that they do not want in their thread.

Supermod

No way. There are some people on here who have "issues" with others for no reason or trivial reasons. Why should they be allowed to censor who posts what in an open forum?

Am afraid I also think this a bad idea - sorry Dudey

This would rely on members acting responsibly - if they did that already there won't be any need for this idea in the first place. Even if only 1% of members abuse this -you're still talking about 2000 members....

Thanks for the comments guys, I think i didnt quite get my point accross the way i intended to..

I understand this is a public discussion forum and appreciate the comments made here in this thread as that is the reason for making it, to get the communities opinions on the matter, something I would never choose to censor in any way.

My point comes to when you are having a chat to your friends, on a specific topic or similar, then the usual geeks rear their head and butt their nose in where it's not wanted.. JFK must hate people doing it in his threads etc.

Maybe this can be covered by the ignore user action?? Does that actually work properly as I've read that it doesnt..

If someone posts something not relevant to the topic then report it and it should be removed.
If you only want certain people to post in a thread you create, then don't post on a discussion forum with 200000 members. Use facebook, msn, a private forum etc.

Sorry but I really can't see this as being workable or a good idea. For example, look at the threads where someone has posted asking for advice with a FS trade or ebay sale and then members find out the OP is lying or in the wrong, all the OP would do would be delete the posts and everyone will think he is a great trader, done nothing wrong etc.

i get your point just like others made, but doing that would be abusing the system and they should be repremanded accordingly for doing so.

and i have reported posts that are out of context like you say, but nothing has happened, hence why i felt the need for creating a disussion regarding a possible rule change so that in these instances where the mod team feel they are too busy to deal with such reports, a simple action can be taken by the OP to remove it themselves..

Again, any posts removed wrongly would be regarded as abusing the privilege..

Seriously begining to realise that this concept may be beyond people..

It's not a gripe, it's not about posts you dont like, it's about those ones that have no place, out of context, and are purely there to incite argument etc.. Trolling... Mods don't seem to care, hence my reason to post..

Bad idea would be abused. Sorry

to be honest the best way to stop trolls is to not respond to them...but off course then it would just become a stupid post and not that of a trolling post.

But people wont leave trolling posts alone, just like this proposed action would get abused heavily by people!

but what you are proposing would just create more work for the mods
TBH either the mods on here are crap or there are more needed (tend to think its the latter!), I agree with your reasons for suggesting this, but just can't see how it would be workable.

why's this been expired? Hopefully the mods at least will infract whoever did it.

I think misc should be a no holds barred no word filtered unmoderated forum.

Hi again Dudey , I/we can see your point but not everyone is gonna be acting responsibly on this - that im afraid is the main problem.

Not everyone will be responsible like you on this and there will be sufficiant number of ppl that will make this impossible to implement/work the way your thinking it could.
