In some cases (especially offline deals) there's nothing on the retailer site about the deal, so enforcing a direct link probably wouldn't be appropriate.

Just my opinion, though.

Yeah offline then fair enough, but when the item is on the website it would be much simple to go straight to that item rather than the home page!

Don't most users already do it anyway?

I noticed a problem with this for DealExtreme, even if you direct link in your post, it takes you to the homepage

Hmmmm you would be suprised!
Most old ones do it but barely any new ones!!
Hey don't worry it was just a thought, after trawling through the 1st page of new deals just now some one put a few deals on from the same website but no direct links - it just bugged me!!! http://www.forumsextreme.com/imgs1/sSig_aaarggh.gif

As ctuk says, some websites seem to have problems with direct links and you can only find the item by searching, which is a pain. Argos was like this for a while.

If you see the same person doing it over and over again with various retailers then drop me a PM with their username and I'll take a look and explain the benefits of it to them in a friendly message.

Thanks ducky might take you up on that!!

A friendly reminder in the thread usually does the trick.

Usually someone in the 1st few posts of the thread will provide a direct link if it is missing.

Yep, posts in the thread do go a long way. If you think a direct link should be added to a post then you can always report it too. It's only a two second job for us, especially if links are provided in the thread.

Users with a high enough rep should also be able to edit a deal, yes? I think this should include the adding of direct links but don't quote me on that one.

I don't think you can. I can't anyways (just tried).

It should also be noted that sometimes, even if you put a direct link in the OP, due to (I pressume) the way the affiliate link works for that particular site, it will only take you to the index page. IIRC LoveFilm and PowerPlay Direct are like this.

I can change the availability (Online/Offline/Both), the Start date/End date, add tags, and add to description, nothing else.

Just wondered about this. There's quite a few deals posted without the retailer & £cost in the deal title. Would it be possible to allow us to add certain missing info to a new deal header, as we can already add extra info to the main body of a deals description ? Not to delete or amend anything, just to expand on existing info. Just a thought

I think this was mentioned by one of the mods/admin before.

I agree that "High Class" members like myself should be allowed to do this.

I agree, a simple ban for anyone that abused their ability would sort out any problems
