They don't encourage any form of payment...........it's up to the buyer & seller to reach agreement and use common sense and get all details before deciding if you are happy to proceed.

Is this with regards to the Nokia?

Yes it is.

I know that its a case of buyer beware, but as i am fairly new to buying and selling myself, apart from ebay that is, i wondered if there was a reason why this isnt mentioned in the rules alongside the ppg / bt payments advice

It's rarely ever seen on here. He also mentions Paypal on one of his posts so if he's telling you a different method via PM then that's all the warning you need, Report the thread with mention to it and the mods will look at it.

Also......be careful about PM'ing. All correspondance should be in the thread until a sale is complete. PM'ing is the road to being scammed.

Hi Mod,

This is the thread i am interested in ( hotukdeals.com/for…664 ), However my question regarding escrow was a more general one for future referance as i am new to this.

For the record, there has not been any pm off the seller regarding any payment etc.

Thank you

Using common sense, and fully following forum rules negates the need for such a service.

With a lot of users on fs/ft however, common sense seems to go out the window when they get the chance of a cheap deal

Hence me asking the question now and not after the event

I don't think Escrow is at all suitable for this site, previously when I looked at it the system was only viable for high value items as the fees are massively disproportionate for low value items. Furthermore people in FS/FT are generally trying to get as low a price as possible so I can't see people paying extra for Escrow services even if costs were reasonable, despite the site recommending against Paypal Gift, people frequently use the system to save money and give up all buyer protection. Furthermore Escrow itself can be a risk as there's plenty of fake Escrow sites which can catch people out.

The Nokia thread aboves demonstrates the need for common sense above all else which is the best tool to combat scammers.
