example (wanted, not for sale thread), this does seem very harsh to me.
hotukdeals.com/ite…e=2

also, I am unclear whether this should be in Deal Requests, or For Sale??

i think you only allowed to reply to questions relating to the item for sale or wanted and not get into convo with people it then becomes misc.

There's a few posts in that thread which are deemed bumps. This may be as a result of chat without making an offer or asking a question directly related to the sale. Consecutive posts are also deemed bumps.

I've quoted enough to confirm that they have indeed used their quota. Whilst OP's cannot prevent posts they also cannot benefit by responding to them when they are not direct offers. OP's should report such threads as 'spoiling' - however many are reluctant to do so and obtain proxy bumps. That might be considered acceptable, what is not acceptable is when the OP contributes further. If that's the case I also count posts that have been encouraged.

I hope that clarifies the matter - if not I'm all ears....

Not true, although It's one where you see me most as it's my delegated primary role.

Not really, its too sketchy to be honest, the thread I referred to as an example was a wanted thread-does this carry the same penalties as posting an item for sale?
Would using post one to answer any questions not deter this 'bumping' or 'proxy' bumping? (whatever that means)

Posts in the trading forums should be offers/acceptances/rejections or counter offers in addition to item specific queries. The OP in question gained free promotion, a simple yes/no/counter offer/ignore or report should have been the option.

As for wanted threads, it might be possible to have a different set of rules but that's not possible at the moment. Fo.lk caters better for this, however we are constrained at the moment due to site differences. Your comments have some merit and I'll see if I can escalate this for future consideration. In the meantime members should attempt to play by the rules and not bend them in fairness to all other members with valid listings.

A 'proxy bump' is in effect promotion of a thread. Responding consecutively in a post has the same effect as bumping the thread, albeit unfairly. Use multi quote or edit the previous post if it happens to be the last in the thread. Encouraging or responding to irrelevant questions is also treated in the same manner.

Hope that's more understandable now.

Yes, thank you.
I was confused with the fact that the op was suspended even though she wasnt selling anything, although I fully understand the rules.
Thanks for replying so quickly too.

Mods, why don't you do a 2 week trial of a hands off approach? Yes emma may have been slightly bump happy, but was it really enough for her to have her posting rights removed?

I think its become just slightly too heavy handed of late.

I realise people will moan whatever the mods do.

Why don't you just make it a rule that all questions and answers are made in the original listing/first post ??
As far as I'm aware the facility is there for anyone to add/edit to the O.P. so it shouldn't be too hard to tweek the format if need be ??

Second post could just be for pics and then no more posts allowed.

Apologies if this has been suggested before or I've missed some basic obstacle to the above.

Questions regarding the item for sale/wanted are permitted within the thread, that's not our area of concern. Any such questions should be directly related to the item for sale/wanted and not degenerate into an extension of misc type chat.

I'm well aware that's the official line but judging by some of the gripes and moans this subject gets blurred does it not ??

Have I not read also that the advice is to edit the last post etc etc ??

Anyway it was just a suggestion trying to be helpful, I wasn't looking for rule definitions. ;-)

Sorry skusey I read it as Post 1 rather than the initial listing.
The facility is already there for most members to add or "edit" that listing but they are not able to do that on the first post.

Apologies if wires were crossed.

I'm confused about this (not hard to confuse me though)
I've got a wanted thread open asking for a particular video and some people have replied in there not offering it. One has said I can watch it on youtube, the other has asked why I want videos, so by what's been said in here if I were to reply it would be considered a bump?

how bout a new rule to include postage in prices, ive seen lots of free bumps asking how much postage is on one item, when it can just be included in the OP

Hi,

If someone were to provide a link to youtube, that would be deemed threadspoiling. If your comments were along the lines of "thanks", then that's not appropriate either. The member and you should consider exchange of non trade info via PM. You won't be penalised for any non acceptable offers, however further prolonging the dialogue (or encouraging) will result in bumps.

You do have flexibility to acknowledge 1, perhaps 2, but these will be counted as bumps and only triggering a closure once you exceed the maximum permitted of 3.

I hope this helps, if not, let us know.

We do monitor sellers who appear to be encroaching trader like status, however we do recognise (and from own experience) that there are many baby/child items purchased and lots go unused to to the sheer volume and growth of the kid(s) involved. It would be a shame to restrict genuine sellers, so we do apply our own judgement where appropriate.

As for trading elsewhere, you always have a choice, however we do try and arrange a sensible and safe trading environment for all, hence the regulation and rules. Anyone failing to comply with trading advice when selling, e.g. refusing to provide full details for verification can expect to have access denied. It's a fair balance in my view, however we do try and take on board member concerns where possible.
