I think it's a good point. But I was thinking today about posting a free software program (Anti Virus), as AVG aren't going to be free for much longer (I used to use them but have been using Avast for over a year).

I agree with you though + think that perhaps free software like this, should only be posted in the "miscellaneous." forum. To stop it taking over the "physical" freebies.

Not everyone that uses this site (or others) are as computer literate as you + many other people on the forums. So the occassional tip of good software can be very helpful. As can any computer related help.

As the miscellaneous forum is where people can ask absolutely anything or post almost anything, it would maybe, be helpful to have a "Computer Help" thread in there as a sticky.

perhaps the non-phyiscal frees can go in its own forum altogether? perhaps merge with something like technical help or something....

I agree... a 'Computer Help' thread could be of great help to many visitors...

Anti-Virus software is something that all net users should have running, especially bargain hunters... it also help stop 'dialers' from being installed secretively too... maybe a decent firewall too...
links to such necessary Internet 'software' Tools should be available in a sticky... after all, getting virus ridden, will spoils anyone's browsing experiences!

I tend to find using open source software exclusive saves a lot of hassle with dialers etc, but agreed it would be extremely helpful - especially in this situation where there are *a lot* of fake sites/programs to try and trick us.

I agree with the general sentiment here. I would like to keep the freebies forum clear for good genuine freebies. Perhaps like you say a sticky thread or something with free software tips could be made and updated. I'll think about it

I'd like to straighten something out in regard to the Competition posts int he freebies forum yet too.

That is another good point... it is getting a little hectic in there...

how about apoll we talked about in the thread i started about it? (competitions)

I'm sure Admin will get round to posting a poll about the competitions posts, then we can all vote to put them in their own section ;).

A poll has been posted in the Freebies forum so drop by and vote

A software sticky thread's a good idea.

I have noticed a few game sites & cheat sites are appearing under freebies under the guize as free software...

if this prob isnt addressed soon, all I can see is a floodgate opening & you wont spot the freebies from the freeware/trialware...

after all, the net is totally full of it...

anyone could flood this site overnight without having to hunt for freeware...

its getting flooded with dupe/dead posts as it is, flooding it with freeware/trialware will kill this site off...

maybe have a section for tools, ie virus checker, firewall etc... but limit it to that...
