I agree, just wasn't sure where I'd seen it and if it was now ratified

rightly so, also i believe members putting up a 2nd post stating "reserved for pics if requested" and then when pics are asked for then this also is seen a s bump

No pics posted, then two requests for pics then finally pics posted would that count as 3 bumps?

i counted three bumps on 1st page to post 13, two from other members one from op, half of that thread was bumps, but unless reported then of course a mod wont see it

It is the O2 signal that is limited in this area (as evidenced by their own coverage map). We have the same signal strength problem with O2 using our other unlocked phones (K850i, LG Cookie, K660i). I didn't read the original post correctly... Adding your owns pictures later should be counted as a bump but requests for them shouldnt be? Taking pictures and uploading to photobucket, etc is a pain at best, i'm happy to do it for more obscure items but the odd PS3 game for a fiver, is it really necessary?

I fail to see the difference between asking for a picture, location, any scratches, whatever. Why single out pictures? Tbh I don't think anything should be allowed to be listed without a pic, but thats a different subject.

Some common sense should prevail, try and list as much information as possible to try and pre-emp any questions.

The other question is what is the purpose of the photo? In some cases it can show condition, however as was mentioned before a game or DVD the condition isn't really captured in a photo. There are some members who also see it as proof that the item exists and is in the sellers posession and I've seen some members get quite huffy on the grounds that their feedback should speak for itself. If I'm honest I've listed a few items and never posted a picture nor been asked for one, in these cases, the picture really wouldn't add any value to the sale, however if asked I would have posted one though I probably worked on the theory that I have good feedback and the photo wasn't necessary.

A lot of posts from newer members are locked pending photos however there seems to be inconsistency, I know it's a hassle but you wouldn't list on ebay without a picture so here should be no different.

The OP never stated he was posting pics, so it would be unfair to have a request counted as a bump.
His reply to the pic request was also shoehorned into him replying to other posts, so also should not be classed as a bump.

Not read any further than this.

I found this fantastic thread by an esteemed member that better illustrates the trick of bumping by promising pics:

Your thread however differs from the point I am making ( or trying to make badly) in the example I posted I don't believe for a moment that the op was deliberately not posting pics to gain free bumps, however he should be all too aware that pictures would be requested. But if pictures are not mandatory, and 4 people request them, to the letter of the rules that's one bump too many, game over. In some cases users could deliberately over-bump another thread and get it locked through no fault of the op who is following the rules and not posting a picture. All seems too wooly mods need to tighten this up and force photos for all threads and stop this being so inconsistent

lol.

So by not even mentioning something that you don't need to mention, you should be "punished" when someone else mentions it?

If this is implemented, i'll leave(but mention it in misc 1st).

Subsequent requests for pictures were superfluous, and should be removed as thread spoiling, not bumps.

If you can prove this(easily done by going through the FS/FT front page) and show a % that ascottishbloke/Admin seems as too high, then I would guess they'd have a re-think.

1. Reported for self promotion :w00t: - Joking!!! before you go and do anything silly with your shoe laces!

2. any request for pix should be classed as bumping by proxy.

3. a simple report to a mod for them to instruct the OP to post a pic should suffice and they should lock the thread until such times as the OP has a pic available and ready for upload. They can then inform the mod who can then unlock the thread.

sassie;5468197

Hi,

Complete newbie around here. I kind of stumbled upon this forum by accident but have been having a look-see about.

I have something to sell but your rules - by gosh I've never seen such a complicated set of rules governing bumping of threads on any forum I've ever been on. I'm not slating it, I'm just trying to get my head around it.

In the selling area I can put a thread up to sell an item along with photo and as much information about the product as I can in the first post. Yes I get that bit (the idea of photographing with username is new to me and although it will be a pain to unbox the item again to re-take the photograph I do like this rule ) the bit that's boggling my brain though is that you can't take discussions about item you're selling to PM but answering questions in thread is considered bumping and that's bad ? I don't understand that sorry are you to ignore questions then ?

Again sorry for what you might think are stupid questions *blush*. Just don't want to get spanked LOL

It's not that bad, you can answer questions on the item for example lets say your selling an MP3 player. If people ask what the battery life is like, how long you've owned it, condition etc you can answer those questions on the thread no problems.

If it turns into a discussion on Britney Spears and why you listen to her on your MP3 player then they will be classed as bumps.

Basically questions that will help you sell it are fine, anything that takes it off topic are not.

Thanks greatly for the reply RedIron I have one other problem though. The item I want to sell is kind of listed elsewhere in a cyberspace void. I have a thread on another forum that has been down now for over a week (no responses were made to the thread. I'd not even got around to bumping it). When it comes back on I presume the thread will come back with the rest of them. Any thoughts ?
