I think it's acceptable to post deals for any of the 'shops' selling adult material. If they can be on the high street they can be here. However, the posting of images of such a nature here is unacceptable. Perhaps implementing a warning system with each post linking to a deal of an adult nature?

not having an image file with an "adult" nature.
the site that is being refered/linked to doesnt have any erotic pictures.
use of language.
if you have a user's D.O.B, and they are under 16 or 18 (depending on content) then they dont have access to the adult deal.

like evrything else im sure the mods will use their discretion to what is allowed and not allowed

I am a mod on a forum and as it is a family site we have to be careful about what is posted. We have this in the title of any threads with adult or could be classed as adult content like rude jokes etc

****ADULT CONTENT****

Any parent who has a child on the net should be reguarly checking the sites they visit and it is up to their discretion if they allow minors to visit the site.
The sites in question don't show use of the items and should be up to the user if they choose to visit the sites in question. the fact it was voted such a hot deal within a matter of minutes must be taken into consideration.
Either way it must be clear what the rules are allow them all or remove them all.
you could also consider a new section for over 18's only

The problem is if you flag anything with a warning, these are going to be the things kids go to first, perhaps posting with no links would enforce a further step before inappropriate content is viewed

Don't know if it would work, not a computer expert.
Maybe the link to these sites can only be accessed by HUKD members, who have to type in their password to access it?

should HUKD even be the ones policing it? It's the responsibility of a parent to ensure adult content is screened. Yes, HUKD advertises itself as a family website, so as long as no 'content' is on HUKD, whats the problem?

You can't win with this one.
If you offend some people with pictures of vibrators and remove them then where do you stop? Some religions don't drink so do you also remove all drink sales. Some don't agree with the use of contraception, so do you remove all deals for Durex? Some don't like violence in games, do you remove all 18+ games, films etc from the site?
Simple question, how many complaints have you recieved about the numerous Ann Summers deals that have been posted?
In fact how many complaints did you get about the thread that caused this, or are you just assuming people were offended?
You say However, information that is legal and in public domain will not be censored or removed - we will defend that right to the end. but you obviously don't mean it. If you don't want adult shops listed then you really need to either ban them all and say so in the T&C or allow them all.
TBH if 15 year old boys want to look at erotic pictures on the internet I'm sure they will find pictues of the said toys being used just as easy as clicking a link on here. I don't think any of the sites that have been mentioned have had any pictures on them any worse than you can see on page 3 of the sun every day.
I also think banning pinkitty for disagreeing with a moderation decision should be reviewed, especially as almost every poster on that thread agreed with her.

I also think pinkkitty's ban should be revoked as she was only responding … I also think pinkkitty's ban should be revoked as she was only responding to a mods remark (Badly but a warning would have sufficed) about the images to prove the mods point was incorrect. If a mod states that certain sites are OK but others are not due to certain images then she must be allowed to respond to this

i agree with this comment, ok maybe kitty went about it slightly the wrong way but she had a valid point and proved it to the mod who was clearly in the wrong.

the adult sites should be on here, if a child wants to see graphic images all they'd have to do is google it and find it. they wont be looking to go through forums to find it!

We do, however, have many members under the age of 18...

Even worse than that is the daily sport, where you can meet up with girls for NSA... and a trillion and one up-skirt shots!!! Not top shelf either!

The point of this thread is that we want the members' feedback on what they deem acceptable so we can have some sort of guidelines.

Again, that's the point of this thread- we're asking the members to determine what they find acceptable, and what they find offensive..

Allow post with offer on, but not allow a direct link to the site?

There have been threads about the Gentleman's Ball [email protected], loads of times, often by mods, that's not exactly sexy lol but it's hardly for the minor is it?
I don't have children so i am not best to advise, but let's face it, there's a lot worse on the net

i think if it is a link and not a direct picture then itsok. if the op puts adult content in the title then you have covered yur back.
i dont see a problem.

why dont you just make people confirm how old they are in their profiles etc and when submitting a deal the submitter has to say whether or not it is "explicit" and if it is then the people who put less than 18 cant see it

other sites with "mature" content rely on people telling them their age to allow them access or not, at least that way the website owner isnt liable for anything

ok, there will always be a minority of people who wont like something like a swear word in eastenders will set all the old ladies hair on fire! there's content on the internet that will have all the parents of the world complain because their children can access it. this is a site designed to give other people help on finding deals, freebies, trading and general help to other likeminded individuals. i dont find it offensive at all that there may be a post for a strap-on on one page and a cuddly toy the next. they're bargains that someone has found and has taken the time to let us know so we can decide if we want them or not. if i dont believe its a deal or can find better elsewhere i will say so. but no1 has forced me to look at it or not look at at. i have my own freewill as does everone else. when i signed upto this site i saw a freebie for a c*** ring. i thought it was amazing that this site would allow it and praised it to all my friends who also signed up. i have traded xbox games and have tried to help others with various forms of advice, some better then others. this site gets addictive and has a great community of people willing to take time out of their lives to help others. yet the last few weeks its felt like something has changed. alot of people have noticed it. a dark cloud overcasting the forums. people getting worried that what they say may be taken badly or be banned for expressing an opinion which is well within our rights to do so. kitty got banned for expressing hers, which just so happened to conflict with a mod's. resulting in a ban. i really believe that was wrong. i fear that we're going to start loosing alot of good people from this site. people who have spent along time helping to make it what it is today. ok rant over, sorry guys

Maybe there should be a catagory for them and then if minors go to it it's up to them! Then ther is no come back on he rules of the forum!?

Just because it's available elsewhere doesn't mean it should be allowed here... The question to ask, really, is whether minors (including your own children, if you do have any or will have any in the future) seeing these things the direction you want the world to go. If the answer to that is "no" then HUKD can take a step towards that. It is, admittedly, a very small step - but it is still one step all the same.

I tend to agree with this.

I think its not HDUK job to keep this site free from anything that may offend.
As long as whatever is being posted/said is legal and with Adult themse done in a tasteful manner then its fine.

i.e. if Anne Summers had a deal on a particular adult toy, there should be no harm in posting a picture of it (linked from site) obivously to post a picture of it in action would be distasteful and inappropriate.

Indeed if someone (as happened in the past) sells adult toys then pictures of the toys should be allowed as its relevant and if we allow the thread how can we not allow the images?

This is a tough nut, but you have to draw the line HUKD is not responsible for what people look at or engage in on this site whether thans a minor following a link to a adult deal likewise if someone enters a trade and gets scammed.

If a minor uses the site its for the parnet to police. A simple *** next to the thread or warning would be sufficent.

If it's legal allow it, if it's not don't

where did you quote that from bazz? and thanks for clearing that up a lil

The only thing I find offensive in all this is censorship on a site that proclaims no censorship.

As for adult deals, yes they should be allowed but no dirty pics posted on THIS site. You can't police what goes on outside here so there's no point in trying. A deals a deal and if we let this one get banned where will it all end? Sex is a natural part of life by the way and is not dirty or disgusting*

Sorry Ace, ]here

Have an over 18 section, where adult toys, games, dvds or whatever can be accessed. If people are interested then they will have to prove their age.
The daily sport thing was just about the general double standards this country has. This paper has had many complaints and political discussions but there it still is with all the other daily tabloids.. Yet something like a few toys or picture of a semi naked woman (not offering her self to the next reader) in a shop causes such a big debate.
Oh well, hope the next decision will be wise and not upset too many people! :o)

Sheriff Waffles;1783401

What kid would bother filling in a load of long winded stuff, if they want naked ladies they can just type it into google, I imagine it would be much quicker!;-)

me ;-)

How do the drink companies handle under age persons entering their site?
Well they have to put a date of birth to enter but an underage person could put their mum and dads info in if they wanted to cheat the system - would they be bothered on here just to look at a vibrator going cheap?
Anne Summers and such cause no offense to me.
I agree with the person who said that parents should be checking what there children are looking at.
I doubt under 16's will be that bothered with this site anyway, they will be on bebo and facebook and the likes.
PinkKitty was a great assett to the site - its a shame

If kids have access to a computer and want to look at adult stuff it would not be difficult,an ad for an erotic site is not going to interest them if they can look at sites like youporn easily

Interesting point... As i said before, i strongly believe it is a parents job to educate our children in such matters and although in an ideal world our children would be forever our babies and never have to grow up and face the big bad world, sadly that is not the case.. I believe for children to gain true independence and grow into responsible adults they have to have an awareness of the world they live in. Sex is not something dirty or to be ashamed of and id hate for my daughter to grow up thinking that it was..
Censorship or removing threads generally leads to subjects becoming taboo and infact all the more appealing to the curious teen...
So my vote is, unless its obviously offensive or illegal, leave it to the parents/members to decide whats right for them and their children..
Thank you for opening the discussion tho Admin....
