Can I suggest putting URLs of sites who's owners are replacing images in this manner into the swear filter, to stop such images being displayed (at least in replies)

The swear filter wouldn't cover anything in image tags as far as I know.

Yeah it does. I tried posting a pic the other day that had a naughty word in it (I didn't realise), and that bit of the URL was replaced with asterisks.

Like this for example: [url]www.thewordwas*****.co.uk[/url]

out of interest what site was it?

You are assuming the company has a distinguished name and not … You are assuming the company has a distinguished name and not "www.greatukdeals.co.uk" Now that would make good reading in the forum if you banned "great uk and deals":whistling: Of course the complete URL inc co.uk would work!

I'm not assuming anything. I was just pointing out that the swear filter does pick up words within the image tags.

As for the suggestion of using the swear filter for this problem, I don't see the point. Stable doors and bolting horses spring to mind. ;-)

yeah i apologies for earlier had no idea what was happening

If the website is [url]www.wewantmoredeals.co.uk[/url]

then you can just merge two words together, without blcking an everyday word

[url]www.wewa[/url][COLOR="Red"]NTMOR[/COLOR]edeals.co.uk

that would still block the site, but not any words

Could not the word "greatukdeals" be added, as single phrase. (no need for the TLD)

I don't agree, I've done it before for people who have used my images and my bandwidth for their photos on ebay. I've also done it to someone who cloned my entire site.

Why should I (or anyone else) pay for someone on here to look at pictures hosted on my site, just because the poster is too lazy to upload them themselves to imageshack or wherever.

I include this as something against the rules on my forum

Including images within your post that are not hosted on your own … Including images within your post that are not hosted on your own webspace or a free image host, without the explicit permission of the webspace owner

Was it a company who changed the pic and was it posted in a deal thread or was it just a photo nicked from another site? If it was a pic advertising a deal then I would agree it was a bit off, if the company are making money from it then to change it to something else is just petty and stupid

I think it was just a form/site with "funny" pictures. If you are going to host pictures of that nature I suppose you should realise they will be hotlinked, and there are more couth ways of stopping such behaviour.

No colin. It was actually a picture of an old car.

As MoneySavingG says - I didn't say that it's OK for people to hotlink. I'm just saying that to replace it with an image of someone sticking their hand up someone else's bottom is a little bit harsh of a site. They could just have an image that says "please do not hotlink" or something, if that's what they wish to do...

I think it is seen as both shock treatment and revenge. I think the theory goes, if they just put up a message saying 'Please don't hotlink', the chances are the person will not think much of it and do it again. If on the other hand they put up a shocking image, then the person will think twce about doing it again, through fear of getting other such images.

The revenge bit comes in the hopes that the person stealing the bandwidth will get into some sort of trouble (such as being barred from a forum  )

Not saying I agree with that mind you.

As I mentioned, I have had this problem before. Sticking up a normal 'do not steal my pictures' didn't work (they changed the url to my new one).
Emailing ebay didn't work
Emailing the seller on ebay resulted in a '**** off' reply

Putting up graphics x 4 (he was using 4 pics) saying

IF YOU BUY THIS I WON'T SEND IT YOU ****ING IDIOTS
I LIKE ****ING GOATS (with a pic of a goat)
etc soon stopped it

:w00t:

I feel naughty saying it, but...if its ebay related, why not go with: "This seller has been suspended for fraud related offences, PayPal Security"

chill man, rinse that bandwidth

After problems today, just thought I'd *BUMP* this as it's quite important.

Another bump on this, just to keep it in people's minds.

All 10 of us?

jah is right..needs to be in misc...thats where images are!!

Know I'm gonna sound like a real Newb, or face the wrath for posting in an "old post"

But if I pull an image off, lets say Tesco, how do I upload it before using it here on HukD?

Are there simple instructions somewhere?

Midge

P.s I would normally just link to the image on (in this example) Tesco's website.

Hi Midge
You need to have an account with an image hosting site, something like Photobucket which has a basic free account.

Copy the image to your computer and then upload it to the host site.
Get the image url and then post the url directly into the post.

There is an official help page somewhere, I'll see if I can find it but the process is not too difficult.

Hope that helps
