Sorry to immediately request a feature but...

any chance you can let us pick a site on our rss feeds?

On my iphone I'd like my custom rss feed to open the mobile site, not the main site.

does that make sense?

Right now we aren't choosing which site based on user agent. If we did then it would auto load mobile if you were on mobile and that would solve your problem. We'll see how the usage and adoption goes.

Fair enough. I think there are feed tools that would decompile, and recompile it how I wanted anyway, though whether I can be bothered is a different matter!

Nice new feature btw!

Oh and if you start to look via useragent, please give us the option to switch between the 2 sites etc - the user cp, and deal submit stuff on the main site work fine on iphone, though obviously I know you can't develop for a single device!

It's already got the "View site in Standard | Mobile" at the bottom so it would have the ability to flip.

Mobile site looks goods on the iphone, its a lot clearer than the normal site.

haha thanks admin - Only had a quick look sorry about that.

OMFG... about time... i saw this and *** in my pants...

this needs to be posted on the front page!

Just having a play, be nice if you could filter by merchant!

Seems the functionality is there to do it...

m.hotukdeals.com/?&a…=27 - for tesco deals only

normal site is fine on the iPhone, no need to use the mobile version for that, for other phones I can see that it will get used.

Tried it and thought OMG!, I've turned on my ZX81!! hehe

yay.congrats on newest hukd branch

Until your able to choose merchants this doesnt help when your in Tesco and then looking for deals...

However...

If you use my link below then this gives you the option filter hot deals by merchant (it uses the m.hotukdeals.com site to display the results).

hukd.garyrip.com/mob…le/

If you want any more merchants added to the list then let me know.

Works great, expect that I cannot log in on my SPV phone. The Log in does nothing. Might just be my phone.

gary_rip - If you click the search icon you get a search box. There is an additional result row on the top that asks "are you searching for tesco mobile, tesco entertainment, etc" if you had typed in tesco (as well as normal results).

Arr i see... that search does not work on the PC...

So the search only searchs retailers and not products(deals)?

Original Poster

No does both - it just brings up the additional row if your search matches part of a merchant name.

Well i type tesco it doesnt actually show tesco store deals in the merchant list your talking about.

Is that little msg for this thread staying there for long?

I use iphone but I do like its simplicity.

finally! I can now grab Postage addresses and browse deals on the go! Best week every for HUKD! Great job!

rocks - makes it much easier to find sainsburys deals on my 5800 when ia m actually there

We'll leave it up for the weekend.

If you click the search icon and then search "tesco" you should get this … If you click the search icon and then search "tesco" you should get this url:http://m.hotukdeals.com/search?keywords=tesco&action=searchThe first bit below All-All should say: Are you searching for: ]Tesco Digital | ]Tesco Mobile (Tescomobile) | ]Tesco Entertainment

Yeah, the problem that Gary is pointing out is that they are for Tesco sub-sites (namely mobile, entertainment and digital). The normal "Tesco" merchant, containing all of the Tesco grocery deals, isn't there...

Like going back to my 6230, normal site works fine on my n95 8gb minus 1 or 2 bugs due to no java support on opera mini.

The font size is too big. It's overwhelming on my N96

As mentioned, on a standard Symbian S60 3rd edition browser where the screen resoltuion is 240x320, the font is too large, it seems to be geared to iphones and screens with similar resolution. The appeareance is almost akin to the iphone version of google reader.

In its present form the only reason I would use the mobile site would be for the easy access to search due to the minimal loading time, even then on a phone with a screen as large as a 5800, G1, iPhone, HTC handets, etc there is no need to make the user click to open up the search as it takes up such a small amount of space compared the the data on the page. The first click ideally should be directly into the search field from a usability perpective, rather than having to unhide a feature.

The fonts on the standard site appear better on screens with a lower res. However since the redesign and the way the post titles appear bold, fewer deals are displayed on a page after word-wrap has been accounted for. Once reading the text in a deal the standard site also fares better on smaller screens as the font remains small. On the mobile site they appear large and results in alot of scrolling.

Would it be possible to create multiple stylesheets based on the top 2 or 3 mobile browsers/user-agents visiting the site? It would just have to be font/size variations at the very least as the layout seems fine.

I have included some screenshots for your perusal incase you do not have access to a Symbian handset:

Sorry for any mobile users coming here to comment after trying out the site!

An alternate workaround for anyone that does want to use the new mobile interface and fit as many deals in as possible is to try Opera Mini, which is free, and set the font size to small.

Great extra feature guys!

Nice one the images posted dont do it justice, works great on my iphone. A scroll of all the latest deals with one swipe of a finger:-D

the function is better. On the N96 I found it difficult to select the buttons as it auto selects links and doesnt seem to find buttons. If you could link the word of the button as well as the space of the button that may help.

Bit annoying that when you move from normal to mobile site it does not keep you logged in.

I could not see any function to submit new threads. This was always a problem on the N96 before but if you can sort that function it would be great. Posting is certainly a lot easier

download opera mini
(The world’s most popular mobile Web browser with over 20 million users)
opera.com/mini/

I like it works great on my Bold:)

Text is massive on the site...any chance of making it a bit smaller, we're not all Mr Magoos!!!

Looking good so far on a N95 8GB.
