surely you can just find an old deal, click it and see how much the heat goes up?

Yeah, but the whole point of this site, is to rate how hot deals are, yet you can't see what your rating is, you shouldnt have to go back to an old deal, just to find out, system should tell you!

Wouldn't take much, just to put "your heat rating is" 7.2 or 5.8 etc in the profile panel!

Why do you need to know exactly, you can guess X)

I've thought of it but I'm worried if it is visible then it becomes competitive and people will be more apt to abuse the system to try and bring it up.

If it's only your heat, visable on your profile, it should be fine, long as you can't view others heat, I can't see why it would become competitve, just doesn't make sense why it's hidden from you, when giving heat is such an important part of the site, everything else is on the profile apart from that!

Maybe you could trial it for a month, just to see how well it is recieved?

Absolutely; 'members' are already going, more than ever I feel, ballistic trying to up their 'deal heat' - there have been lots of references to it recently - wowing up the OP, choosing those deals (USB memory etc) which get the most attention.
I have already suggested getting rid of heat and all the other paraphernalia.
ATM it is a competition rather than a cooperation.
