Im not grasping the "security" aspect of this?

good idea

There is no account to delete. It's been said many times before.

If members post 1000's of threads, then it's up to them to delete them.

If a member posts and then are quoted, how would they be removed?

Banned

Just set up a macro and auto delete posts. Simples.

It wont delete OP... but it will remove all posts apart from locked threads. Not entirely what you wanted - but its the best you're gonna get.

i think if members start doing this then i think we may see some bans unless its being done for a very good reason

I used to have something I could auto delete unwanted posts in forums Ive run. I can certainly get something that will do this if you want it? (I can think of at least one person who prefers a low post count. (So obviously not me!):w00t:

why? there's nothing in the rules that doesnt allow it, plus whats the problem is someone wants to delete a post they made? they can already do this but it can only be done a single post at a time.

Are you going into the Witness Protection Program?

if memebers start doing this it leaves threads in a mess, hence why i think strong words would be had, i may be wrong though

Threads often look a mess after the trolls have been on the go and the mods are slow to react.

At the end of the day though, surely its down to the individual?[/QUOTE]

I dont think members should be able to delete thousands of posts, but i do agree under certain conditions that an account could be banned and a new one set up, again for certain things, why anyone would need to delete thousands of posts is beyond me, a few that maybe you have put things on here you shouldnt have done, but thousands, no. Rememeber that once posted they actually belong to the site, not the poster

guv;6891189

i just deleted the post you replied to. Did it make any difference?

1. not many people look at old thread plus it wouldnt make any difference unless that person was quoted and then that quote would satisfy the reader in understanding.

2. property of the site hah, you sound like..................................

if the OP is talking about deleting posts for mostly security reasons, then why not just simply remove the few posts that contain such information?

How do you work that one out? Is that listed in the conditions? (Ive not seen it.... and even if it were, I'd imagine it could easily be challenged.)

not even going to go there, didnt realise it was a wind up thread, if someone has to explain that writing on a piece of paper doesn't mean you own it then there really is no point trying to explain anything else

Even auto, would take time!!!!

I regularly used to delete about 300 posts made by dodgy accounts. Its a case of each deletion connecting to the database and going through all the steps it'd take if it was you doing it.

Ive just tried for you BTW...... they're not online atm.

I was being serious. Ive no idea why the OP wants this....... I just cant see how it can be stopped if you want your posts deleted and the site refuses to delete the account and posts automatically.

I was just picking up on the "the site owns it bit".

no point in getting upset, we are having a adult conversion about improving HUKD's.

from the op reposnses im assuming its a wind up thread

of course the site owns it, you are allowed to do what they allow, if they removed the delete button because of ABUSE, then how would you remove what belongs to "you", in a locked thread how do you remove what belongs to "you", you dont because they dont belong to you and surely a mod removing "your" post would not happen if it belonged to "you"

i can assure you this thread is not a wind up, why would you think that? (your the only that thinks that btw)

its a feature that other forums have!

Yep or simpler yet don't post such information in the first place - even if the original post is removed, any posts with the information quoted would remain and there's various sites which cache websitse, particularly prominent ones such as here which is search engine friendly

its abit late for "not posting in the first place" tho eh? plus even if not for the securty risk factor, it should be a feature on this forum, as its very useful feature that other forums have.

Seriously. If I wanted something deleted in a locked thread, I could get it deleted with out without the sites help. I am not talking about hacking but the law. Obviously, I there would need to be a good reason (and not just being frivolous), but I'm 99% sure who would win if put to the test.

Though I think this is taking it to extreme somewhat!

No, not at all - why anyone would post any information which they believe makes them vulnerable or poses a security risk on a large public forum which scores well in the search engines is beyond me. Quite frankly they're going to need to learn at some point that it's a really stupid idea, deleting the posts doesn't remove the information as mentioned already. I used to post on a technology site and had added quite a few howto guides and useful information that went down the pan one day when the company went bust - I retrieved all the data from the site using data cached by the search engines.
