thats not what he means he maens HUKD admin should change it so it say the time started not 10 hours ago

he just wants everyone to type the date and time when they are posting an initial deal/misc etc. into the original post so everyone can easily see when it was posted.

DOH! let me explain again!

This is in FEEDBACK so it is for the attention of HUKD mods / web designers.

When someone makes a brand new thread, then it just maintains the hours & minutes since it was posted on the INITIAL POST.

Subsequent posts state the date & time of posting so no consistency and you have to work out when the initial post was made. I often try to help members with queries so its unclear when they made the original post without doing a bit of date calcs in your head.

Clear enough now? ;-):-D

If you really need to see the exact time of posting, click thread tools, view printable version. The time is in there. Thanks to MikeT for that tip.

Me neither. The problem arises though if you saw a deal last week but can't remember the title. How many days/hours ago was last monday?

Problem Solved ??

So the actual time is everywhere except the OP.
I wonder why, because I agree with csiman.
Thanks for the tip emma.

Me thinks it about time someone wrote a greasemonkey script, to fill in all feature gaps. Who's gonna volunteer?

I agree with those who would prefer to see the time and date instead of how many days/hours ago something was posted.

It's like lots of useful info on this site, it's there, but just not easily accessible. :?

Thanks for the tip emma.

Yep, it was a great tip, thanks Emma.

I don't understand this reason.

If you want to know how long ago it was posted look at the stamp... 1 hour ago.

If you had the time you'd have to go hmmm it was posted at 13.20 and it's now 14.20 so it was posted 1 hour ago.

Unless everyone enjoys doing math what is the advantage of having the absolute time?

Maybe those of us that would like the absolute time displayed don't like working that out? Tbh I don't care if something was posted 10 minutes ago or ten hours ago, I would prefer to know what time it was posted. Maybe it's because I prefer absolute facts rather than an answer that changes depending on the time of day.....

In everyday life, I don't know about you, but unless something is happening/happened within a short period of time, I use the actual time and if approproate, day/date.

"What time did you get up this morning?" "7:15" - Not - "What time did you get up this morning?" "5 hours 37 minutes ago."

"When did you're flight leave?" "Last Wednesday at 3" - Not - "When did you're flight leave?" "5 days, 6 hours and 22 minutes ago"

So in my case, my brain is just used to doing things that way. YMMV

It also makes it easier to use abolutes. For example, if you know you were last on HUKD in your lunch hour, when you look at the site in the evening, you just look for all threads starting after 1:30pm, instead of having to work out just how long ago that was.

To be honest if it's just a preference I don't think we'll change it

Would it not be possible to list the absolute time as well? Not in the forum list, but when you've actually opened up the thread (in the top of the OP?).

e.g.

POSTED BY: csiman 9 hours, 1 minute ago (12:04 16/05/08)

oh admin i really expected better

This had been discussed months ago, at least we have an answer this time.

it drives me nuts, and total fries my head why everything else is date apart from the op, so yes for me it is a preference, but really think peoples preferences should be taken onboard especially when its those people that make the site

One example, I wanted to know the time difference between the OP and the first comment - as someone from a company started to self promote in a thread suspiciously soon after the OP had posted it. I couldn't work out the difference... as the OP said "3 weeks, 5 days ago". When mike told me the trick with the time showing on the printable version, I was able to see the self-promoter had joined and posted merely minutes after the thread was started.

That's just one example why I prefer the absolute time to be shown.

I couldnt have put it better myself. Admin stating they wont be changing it is ridiculous. Why not?

This site just gets worse by the day and the mods dont give a flying toss!

Oddly enough that's why I would like to see it. I'm always curious how long it take the first person to respond to a post and it's a pain when you have to actually work it out. I'll be using the print page trick, but it's a poor substitute to having everything with a real time on it as standard.

Calm down sir ! ;-)

Actually csi you've got 2 mod's posting in this thread pretty much supporting the OP so it's a bit unfair to make your flying toss statement.

Perhaps Admin will give it a 2nd look ??
Perhaps there are reasons why it can't be done ??
