I've noticed that subscribed threads don't show as bold a lot of the time when theres new posts. Don't know if thats related or not though.

Hero hunny
my recent activity on the right hand side doesnt get updated when someone adds to a thread as it used to....and i miss things cos of it

Can you fix that please? x

I've created a new thread for that issue Plumberman. This thread is about the fact that sometimes really old threads are in the recent activity widget.

i currently have 10 in my list
the last 1 is a thread i created (old ones always seem to be own threads)
by posting here it should be knocked off no.10 spot but iirc it doesn't happen like that
*posts*
edit: gone off end of list - will try it again next time pops up incase memory going

had 10 in list
old one was still at bottom no.10
posting within top 9 just changed position left no.10 unchanged
posting in new thread pushed no.9 off list and kept old thread at no.10 (as i expected to happen above)

post in new thread - went to no.1 no.10 remained unchanged (new no.9 bumped)

Thanks Brilly! I appreciate you taking the time to post these, it is a great help.

old thread back at no.10 - no idea when sneaked back on
post in new thread pushed off no.9 instead of it

I had this a while back, then when I posted more it was going up again, noticed a couple of days ago it was 7 again but realised the missing threads were spammed threads.

Can you post the URL to one or two of the bad threads in you recent activity? I'll take another look at this. Thanks

And commenting here put this thread in my list, the thread that was 9th dropped of the list and the old one I linked to stayed in 10th place.

Another old one that's popped up in my list even though there are no new posts in it. Probably easier to just action my idea in the OP. (_;)

I've had a chance to dig into this a little more, and this is how the recent activity widget works (The widget, not the follow list in your profile):

The Recent activity widget currently acts as a kind of monitoring for … The Recent activity widget currently acts as a kind of monitoring for your recent activity exclusively. What it is, is a list of all the threads you have posted on or commented in within the last month (Up to 10) in the order that you posted the thread/commented in the thread. It monitors the time of your comment, not of the most recent comment in that thread.

I don't think this makes sense (At least from a user standpoint). I think it should be a list of threads you've commented on/created in the order that they were last updated/commented on. What do you guys think?

not really, what if you post once in one of those misc threads that never end ones - thread would be there forever like a subscription.
better (for me) would be as it is just now (well, a working version) but maybe an indictor such as bolding to indicate a new post.
or an option to switch views.

what is quoted there isn't what was happening when problems were reported above either (not sure if saying that) as they were months old with no new activity and reappearing.

edit: thread about duplicates i created week or so ago has popped up in position 10 when there are many more recent posts to have there.
appears to be no new activity unless i have been stalked yet again.

ofc would be nice if there was some activity there saying that yes its stupid to compare against irrelevant threads....

edit: upon posting the number 9 thread got pushed off and the duplicate thread stayed at 10.

No, the current way is correct (if it worked). Brilly's point is spot on.

...and a couple of new posts later my own created thread still sits at no.10 whilst the more recent ones get chucked off.

Back to the drawing board. I'll examine the query a little more. Thanks guys.

I may have got to the bottom of this this time, with the help of DBA. I think what the problem was, was that some people were commenting in threads that were spammed, and that was throwing off the results of the recent activity widget. I've altered the query slightly so that should not happen anymore. Please let me know if your results are still incorrect! Thank you very much for your patience, and Rest Easy, Citizens.

as predicted one of the threads i posted in got spammed so was able to quickly test.
replacement thread at bottom of activity was not a thread i made from ages ago but would have been the "number.11"
nice work HeroDeveloper!
(beware possible edit trap)

2nd thread spammed - lookin good

Yay! Now perhaps I can finally say: Rest Easy, Citizens.
