Forum rep is the green blocks - the scales are used to give rep or see what comments/ rep you have recieved from any given post. Clicking your scales will show comments, clicking others will allow you to add comments regarding other people's posts.

Heat is a separate rep based on time registered, previous deal termp average, post count, and a little on forum rep.

Hope that helps somewhat

Thanks.
And why are some people's blocks blue? And some of my reputation comments have blue blocks?

those are new users with little rep

Blue is neutral ie not positive or negative. It is no longer possible to go blue or red.
The blue comments have been left by user with an insufficient amount of rep to affect yours.

Ah... Thanks. All very useful to know.
Finally, how did you predict that I would get a 4th block, SC?
Is there a certain number of rep points per block?

I don't know the exact formula but my rep is very high and it takes at the moment 100 points for you to gain another block (increases after block 6 and again and block 10 I believe)
5% or so of mine is enough to add a block even if you have only just gained your last block.

There should be an FAQ about this...
Well, there wasn't one when I joined up... :P

Ah one thing I forgot is that you cannot leave rep to the same person twice for one post, and must rep 5 or so other people before you can leave anyone rep a second time. Maximum 5 rep givings per day or so.

^ link is a little out dated now neg rep has been removed.
hotukdeals.com/for…ion
also explains it all in detail.

Oh yeah! I never spotted that.
Thanks for your replies everyone, I'm all clued up now.

One last thing...

Why are you solar flare?
How do I come off matchstick?
What affects this tag line?

Solar flare is the title for someone with over 1000 posts
Matchstick is due to your post count of 54 - it'll change at about 100.

Tags are applied to deals to make it easier to search for all deals to do with say "surround sound" or "valentines"

I agree. There does need to be a newcomers sticky. The current on does not explain rep, or what all the titles mean

it does touch on rep slightly

I thought the rep bit was fine - especially with the extra post it links to.
Titles not really touched on though but its pretty self explanatory - titles changes according to post count and a few people have personalised titles. Not a big deal.

It takes me a while to get to grips:giggle:  After I have asked enough daft questions I will look like a genious! (Maybe not!!):giggle:

seems there is been some abuse of the rep system on the forum, no offense to the poster of the threads but offering rep for guessing the name of your dog and for playing hangman...

Thought the rep system was supposed to be used for if someone finds a good deal, if you have a good transaction in the for sale thread, or if someone is struggling with something and is helped by another member then rep is left (9just examples of leaving rep)...

Not that the rep, has any real meaning because you can have a full set of blocks very quickly.

Yea...go and sit in the corner quietly! ;-)

I do agree with you tho that the rep is not designed to be dished out as prizes for some hangman game....but TBH, I wouldn't worry about it...the rep is now just for show - it has no meaning....:)

I agree with Fwibble - it is supposed to mean something but the abuse of rep just makes it a mockery.......(rep does make a difference to deal temps, expiring and spamming threads and newbies think its important)

I believe some of the "block changes" were increased a couple of months ago though.

rep does make a difference to deal temps, expiring and spamming threads … rep does make a difference to deal temps, expiring and spamming threads and newbies think its important

I *think* thats a different kind of rep, and is judged by the temperature your deals reach eg. The hotter your deals are the more "voting" power you have on others deals. I will see if I can find the thread...

My mistake, it does affect it:

The voting rep is based on the temperature of deals you have submitted, … The voting rep is based on the temperature of deals you have submitted, the time registered, number of posts, and forum rep. The first is by far the largest and the other factors are there to balance it out and give some voting rep to people who spend their time helping others etc in the forum. So if you want to have a larger impact voting for deals, your best bet is to start posting your own hot deals, and the hotter they are voted, the more impact you will have when voting.

TBH it doesn't really concern me..but we can't really expect the mods to waste their time policing rep. If they gave us negative rep back we could counter balance it ;-)
