from this thread hotukdeals.com/ite…204

and im sure last year i actually saw this done on here, maybe someone else will remember it

Agreed it's a good idea. It could offer paypal protecton this way too. I could list "Validation of hukd thread" followed by a link.....

Don't see a problem with it as it'd be the seller who'd be incurring ebay/paypal fees but the buyer would have an extra level of protection via ebay and paypal.

it just seems a weird thing to say they cant do it this way, i know it makes no sense to pay fees and paypal fees but for newer members maybe it is a good option, and cannot see once a deal has been done why it cannot go through ebay for those who feel more confortable than parting with their goods

also the seller would have the extra protection too, as most newbies are expected to send 1st, and yes usually to members who have good feedback, but sadly good feedback is only good till someone gets a bad one

yep another benefit. In fact the more Ithink about it the more I think it is a rather good way to finalise a deal.

Paypal fees would be an issue though along with spamming/deletion of threads. Best way forward with a few well thought out tweeks imo though.

Admin actually advised members to do this.
It was a while ago(more than a year), so things must have changed.

as long as the price was agreed beforehand then paypal fees etc shouldn't be a problem.

What would be the issue of spamming/ deletion of threads? The way I see this everything would still be the same except when you go to pm rather than exchanging bankdetails or paypal address etc then the seller sends an ebay item number and the buyer purchases through ebay. job done.

If the deal takes place on eBay, that's where the FS feedback should be left, not here. Our FS feedback system is only for trades completed or entered into fully on-site.

but the deal would have taken place on this site, as it would never have been listed elsewhere until the sale was agreed :?

If a person does a deal on here and then goes to pick up at someones front door and pays them there, should they leave feedback here, or nail it to their front door - lol

P.s that last bit was me being my mardy self, not being serious, thought i best say, just incase - lol

but this would just be a different way of paying for a deal that has already been completed on here with another level of protection if both the buyer and seller want it.

As sassie points out if an item is collected then should feedback be proudly displayed above your front door no so I don't see what relevence the feedback issue is. If the buyer wnated to leave via ebay as well as on here then whats the problem?

As long as the item has not been listed before a deal on here has been concluded then surely there is nothing wrong with this method.

So if we allow eBay sellers to leave feedback here for a deal they've bought or sold on eBay, they could essentially list all their ended auctions here for that to happen...

lol at the nailed to door feedback though :-D

So what if there was no feedback left on HUKD?

Is that why Admin changed his recommendation of doing exactly this for extra protection?

I guess that would be up to the buyer to request as part of the … I guess that would be up to the buyer to request as part of the fulfillment arrangement. If a seller did that then I think it becomes a little more suspect...One of the main purposes of the rule is to prevent someone listing, another member saying I'll take it and then the seller putting things off until the eBay auction is over or a situation where the trade being listed elsewhere gets in the way of the deal being made here.Edit: Thinking about it some more, I think it hinges on whether listing is part of the fulfillment process to the deal made on here, because in that case it's not really different than using PayPal or whatever (obviously that part of the deal can't be done through HUKD). If a seller was listing BIN's on here, or listing sales that were currently listed on eBay though that would be taken off.

as long as the deal wasn't available on ebay before being listed and completed in the usual way on here then what is the harm in paying via ebay rather than via paypal gift of bank transfer. It just gives the both the buyer and seller an extra level of protection.

feedback would be left as normal on here and if they so desire then on ebay as well.

well done to thesaint, i could never have found it, as hadnt got a clue who mentioned it before

although apart from putting "DO NOT BID" in the auction listing im not sure how you could make sure it wasnt bid on before the buyer got a chance to get it, you know how some ebayers are beagle eyed - lol

Like I said in my first post, I knew Admin had said it, and it was over a year ago.

All it took was the use of the much maligned search function, and I found it within 2 mins.

I'm sure this will be discussed more and clarified shortly. I took my quote from the rules, not from thoughts aired in the FS/FT rules thread.

Although I'm not that familiar with ebay I believe you can have a pre-approved list which could be used to restrict the sale to a certain buyer.

John

I have only just looked at the thread that aScottishBloke locked, and I agree that it should have been locked, as the OP wasn't doing what we have been discussing in this thread.

He/she wasn't clear that the sale would happen on HUKD, and then only the payment part was happening on eBay.

This thread isnt about the other thread being locked, it should have been locked due to the uncertainlty of the entire opening post.

It is about a deal being done on here and then payed for via ebay/paypal, which i think for new members is a pretty good idea, it allows bith buyer and seller to feel more secure till feedback has been built up on here, although i do understand that feedback on here doesnt mean things will never go wrong, where theres a will theres a way so to speak

another couple of scammers today and maybe if this method was used or at least known it could be used as an option then it might have put someof them off or at the very least given some of the buyers a chance to claim via paypal.

i really do think that anybody trading should ask for a driving license or proof of address like utility bill or something especially for higher priced items.

you dont see retailers allowing people to buy online without all relevant details so why take the chance here on a personal level?

its not fool proof no but it would help a little

Off topic:

There's nothing to stop anyone doing this. They wouldn't buy or sell anything though.

There are enough rules and guidelines anyway, the people who get scammed are the ones who can't even be bothered to make a phone call 99 times out of 100.

couldnt be bothered making a new thread but as there has been a few more scams last few days thought it worth a mention, although as you say the people having the problems cant read the rules never mind a thread in feedback

thats what ive done when purchasing some vouchers for a lot of cash and seller didnae have a problem, neither would i if somebody asked

so is this a yes its ok, or no it aint

sorry to bump this, but just seen this being asked again in a fs thread, and still cannot see why a deal cannot be reached here, thread locked and then listed on ebay for buyer to follow through with sale, although i do sort of agree that maybe feedback should not be left, but telling someone to not ask for this on a fs thread seems a little unjust

I agree, I think that response is wrong as it's entirely reasonable to ask for the sale to be completed on ebay, it's then up to the seller whether they want to deal with the potential issues and cost.

John

As this seems to have become an active discussion - I've unexpired the thread.....

If a seller decides to withdraw from sale here and advertises elsewhere, then that's their decision. As long as we're notified in advance of listing elsewhere, I don't really see an issue at present.

Feedback wouldn't be applicable here.

Original Poster Banned

so asking in a thread to list on ebay is fine then, yeah?

as i see it, it is no biggie if seller and buyer are happy to do that then seller closes thread (via folk, unless you can do that here now) and lists on ebay, why would you need notifying in advance of seller locking thread? or do you mean notified as in locking thread first?

As long as the thread here has been marked as expired and locked, I don't see much of an issue. Notification can be via reports or self managed via fo.lk. If doing it via reports, then the thread must be locked by a mod prior to listing elsewhere.

If there's any abuse of the process, we'd review in due course. I'm not so sure there's a demand to return back to ebay where the seller may indeed take a hit after fees.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, could i ask if there is anyway admin would consider adding some king of extra button to the feedback, where a deal could be made on the fs boards and paid for via ebay then a feedback could be left here but show it was paid via ebay, that probably made little sense but it did when it was in my mind oO

I don't think there's a sufficient volume of deals to merit the request though ?

If you want to hightlight your credentials elsewhere, we invite members to link/disclose their ebay ID.

Have I missed the point here ?

Thanks.
