We're not Rpoints realfriendlyman, and admin's ethos for HUKD is that posts should be bias free. Commissions lead to bias...

Or we could even do something for every time someone buys from a deal you've posted, you receive either points/raffle ticket, which can be exchanged in a weekly/monthly competition?

Does anyone think that's a good idea?

Yeah, I can see the concept, but I think it would only be detrimental to the site overall.

Just cause spamming.

It would also introduce an element of competition into deal posting, and that would only lead to arguments. "I posted it 15 seconds before you did." "Mine is 38p cheaper." etc.

Works well the way it is so why try and 'change it'?
This would cause animosity ("I posted that deal before you, blah, blah") and even more spam than we already get.

Hi Emma, long time no see my lovely, how have you been?

I understand what you're saying babes but the commission rate would be so small per person, that it wouldn't be worth making yourself look stupid for the sake of a few pence and Rpoints doesn't seem to have created bias posts due to this...... from what i've seen anyway.

What do you think of the points/raffle ticket idea for weekly/monthly comps regarding this?

I think it would create a further positive outlook to the forums, similar to the bingo comp that was going on a while back.

Another problem is some companies don't like incentivised affilliates as it encourages people to do certain actions with the thought of making profit. Quidco for example offer 3.5% of Ebay commision but don't offer the BIG reward that affilliates can earn. If they did they would get chucked from the program.

Well... there wouldn't really be much anyway as most people purchase thorugh a cashback site these days anyway.

And RFM... this has been the cause of problems over on Rpoints to the point where they've had to limit people to posting one deal per retailer per day to avoid spam and bias. It'd just cause so much rivalry.

Bad idea in my view the forum will clog up due to people wanting commission and such like.

I don't like the pay-for-post structure at all for all the reasons listed above. It doesn't create the right atmosphere - no matter what the pay/reward it changes the motivation for posting from a motivation of sharing to one of self-interest.

I think the site works because people only post because they believe something is a good deal and any incentive to post will muddy this. We're trying to get away from as much bias as possible - not introduce the chance of more.

That's true Ducky and that's one of the reasons why i prefere HUKD more than Rpoints because of the freedom it offers in case another offer comes along later in the day.
This has happened to me on Rpoints on several occasions and each time i have required to wait for the next day in order to list the deal and by that time, the short term offer has expired and no one benefitted.

What does everyone think of the raffle idea though, not so much as the deal aspect like i suggested before but it could be to regular posters that help others in the community, list deals etc and then get entered for competitions on the site?

If you were going to do a raffle like that then it'd have to be for each member who'd posted "a deal" to get people involved, as opposed to each deal as that creates rivalry between members.

Rpoints do what they do...

HUKD do what they do...

Thats why they both exist. Stay as is.

How does HUKD make money from people clicking thorugh to buy stuff anyway?

Same principle as Quidco.

I say stay as is - If we started this we'd become clogged with spam deals, and loads of deals that are rubbish anyway. Quidco does its job - Paul does his job. End Of.

silly idea imo

If it ain't broken, don't fix it

yes
at least have a post of the month

paying commission wouldn't be a good idea in the same way that its a good idea that its not allowed to put your own personal quidco/similar links in when submitting a deal.both of those things would just mean who knows how many people sending in 50 prices a day for ps3 or hdtvs that aren't even good deals really. if theres no incentive at all then people would only submit something thats really worth bothering with rather than just adding many expensive items just so they could make money if someone actually bought one through it. thats what i think about it anyway

Totally agree - keep HUKD as it is

If you want cash back on purchases go through Quidco!

Theres alot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes for a site like this and any money from us clicking links is well earnt by admin and the mods. (Assuming mods get paid - if they dont they should be).

I'd rather keep the quality of forum we have instead of getting paid for links etc. Plus I assume (anyone feel free to coorect me if I'm wrong), that the site doesnt get paid for all links, as some are found by its members. So would you rather have less great deals and more mediocre deals but earn yourself a few pence?

This is a great site and freindly community, bringing about that kind of change would really shake at the foundations of that.

Maybe if the admin feels fit at some point in the future he might develop a new site like that, but to be fair the amount of 'policing' it would require would mean there is very little left to reward you with anyway.

Anyway... said my piece... just a newbie opinion

Hardly a newbie angelkelly.

Hear Hear!!!

Don't forget, the admin of the site have to pay for space/bandwith to host this for us to actually get the deals...

Leave it as it is.

if people really want something from posting a deal, how about just have a reward every year on HUKDS anniversary for the best deal of the year. hows that.

Well we usually have some form of competition/promotion on the site's anniversary anyway.

Good point about the space Browni

Plus I dont kow how many of you have tried working with php, but believe me it is HARD. So either Admin works extremely hard or has to pay someone to effect changes - which by the way can cost alot!

Yep, Admin's paid a few people in the past to help update the site. Costly process.

that would be nice just to encourage people to put really good deals on here instead of supermarket deals.

That's kind of what i was talking about too, which is what i suggested on the first page to hand out raffle tickets for deals (not the OP) but this is obviously a slight modification.

I think HUKD could do one every week, month and year and obviously the weekly ones will be a small prize and it could be better and better for the longer period awards?
I feel this will encourage people to regularily look for great deals, such as the one HUKD were doing around Xmas for Amazon vouchers.

What does everyone else think?

Surely this is what the site is about - posting really good deals? Every deal is a good deal for someone, maybe not for everyone, but definitely for someone. A supermarket deal is good for those who maybe don't have the cash to splash on computer games, but need to stretch their money as far as possible when doing the grocery shopping.
What makes a deal on a cheap computer better than a deal in the supermarket?

PS Just using computers as an example. Could be bicycles, which not everyone is interested in, like not everyone is interested in the supermarket stuff, or kids stuff.

totally agree!

I would say I have saved more money on supermarket deals whilst I have been here, rather than some of the other deals. I would hate to see them go!

That's odd. It's the exact opposite for me... I kind of ignore the supermarket deals. (Well except the big codes for tesco)

Thats what I mean

I save £20 to £40 every week with tesco codes, plus already saved £50 plus this year with tesco direct - so it literally adds up to hundreds over a short period of time - where as I might save £20 a week buying other things.

But if supermarket deals are excluded as a whole, then there would be debate to wether we were still allowed to post the codes. Plus theres many instore deals we wouldnt know about - like the £2 polariod camera for example from Asda.

Just my opinion - but I'd like to see the supermarket deals stay

I think when people complain about supermarket deals, it's not generally about the online codes. It's more about the "pringles are £1" or "buy one get one free on spam" etc etc ...

Mmmmm spam. :-D

I think supermarket deals get a rough deal.

I would much rather see BOGOF supermarket deals than the stuff that gets posted in the Freebie section.
