It's a good point, especially as i'm the proud holder of the hottest deal ever here on HUKD :w00t: 2708 Degrees!!!!

I know what you mean, sometimes it can be annoying, but hey, that's life!

Yeh but rep is given for that "extra bit of helpfullness" or a really really really good deal. Otherwise everyone would have maxed out their rep! If every quite good deal was given rep then they would have the maximum 11 green boxes pretty quickly!

I generally find that rep is given out to people who assist other people sort out problems with their computers / ebay / online purchases etc!

Yeah the thank yous are nice but why leave thank yous? why not thank yous and rep? or even just rep?

You can end up with 30 posts saying thanks, but only one or two reps left!

How can you say its only given to those 'who assist/sort out problems'? Thats not what HUKD is for. If i wanted help with my problems then i would subscribe to that particular forum on a different site. This site is about finding good deals!!!!!!!

I didn't say it was only given out to those who assist/sort out problems.

But this is the kind of activity that endears people to each other sufficiently to bother giving out rep. I certainly don't give someone rep for posting a deal unless it's really good in which case I vote hot and give them rep.

And if you visit the misc forum you'll notice that a lot of people get assistance with all sorts of problems ranging from online purchases to faulty PCs and faulty xbox 360s. So I would say that HUKD is, at least partly, for interacting with other members in this way.

Rep also seems to be given out after trades in the for trade / for sale forum.

What you don't understand is that deal temperature is now MORE IMPORTANT than reputation.

Reputation is for recognising helpful people around the forums, etc.

WHEN YOU VOTE FOR DEALS the majority of your vote amount is worked out from the temperature of the past deals you've posted, not your reputation!!

Also, Deal Temperature is per deal, not per user. Many popular deals are posted by one user simply because they beat someone else to it. It's about luck rather than helpfulness IMO.

So if you vote hot on lots of deals, does that increase or decrease the magnitude of your vote in future?

your voting power doesnt increase by you voting but by the temperatures that your deals you posted reached, right ducky?

2708 is not the hottest!?

btw mark, your next post is your 1000th well done

Congrats in advance Mark on your 1k posts.:thumbsup:Soon to be solar flare.

Ah yes, I was trying to thing of something really profound to write in my 1000th post.

However all I have done is realised how stupid my last post was due to the fact that I didn't read duckmagicuk2's post properly.

Oops :whistling:

Welcome to the flares club mark.:)

just 1 more green square to go then I'm maxed out

your rep points still rise even when the squares are full

ah yes, I just meant to the casual observer looking to the left of my posts.

Also I appear to have rather stolen the thunder of this thread, so I shall not post any further off-topic messages!

thanks for all the congrats though

I definitely agree with that, I don't hand out rep too often...only on deals I actually purchase or to someone who has been really hepful to me/others.

:? Maybe i have the spirit of this thing all wrong, but as no members wage or family depends on the amount of blocks or rep. they have, does it really matter. Yes, it's an ego boost and it's good to know you've been of some assistance - but lets not get so hot under the collar:friends:

Yes congrats on your 1k mark...I knew you had the wills to make it!

I haven't posted many deals, but I do help out as much as I can on the deals forum, helping others to find a good deal,so that is probably why my rep has increased.

The hottest deal I've posted got to 200,I was quite proud of that, all my others sank without trace:-D

Folks as this is more of a HUKD forum issue, I'm going to move it to the comments section.

I agree with this 100%. It really doesn't matter at the end of the day... it doesn't affect anything that gets posted and is almost "just a bit of fun" to be honest.

I think the mods often steer away from handing out rep for a number of reasons, mainly because ours are high anyway and affect other people's rep far too much.

Some deals are good, but common, such as cinema preview tickets. Not really worthy of rep (in my opinion) but heat so that other people will see the thread, and definatly a thankyou to the original poster for taking the time to find and post the deal

I personally don't see what the big deal is on rep if you find something useful say thanks , I agree with the above for a lot of people its just an ego boost (some people are obsessed with it!) I do leave rep if some1's pm'd me giving advice or has said something of use in a post but other

than that i just say thanks , after all its only a computer, although I find this site great and very useful I'm not going to go off and cry if someone doesn't leave any rep, whats the big deal ??!! Thats my opinion anyway (the one I'm entitled too!! :p) :-D
