bloody hell sorry if i dont read every post

If a deal is already on the site then it's better to bump the original thread rather than start a new one.

If the site was full of duplicate deals it would be a nightmare to trawl through...........that's why they are removed.

If we allowed things to be re-posted then the site would soon be full of everything over and over again.

Your argument, "surely some people that didnt look a week ago would still like to see the deal," applies to every deal on here. Should we re-post every active deal each week?

One other problem, that I'm sure you will understand, is that there may be important discussion about a deal (such as information about the time it takes to deliver, discussion about using the product, etc, which may be of interest to potential customers and those who have already purchased. It's easier for everyone if this is kept to one thread in order to make sure that all of the knowledge is in one place.

One instance where we'll make exceptions is if the deal has been unavailable for a while. Another possible exception is if it's a long-running deal and although it has been posted in the past, it was some time ago (certainly much longer than a week).

I hope that helps.

I know. Unfortunately i think it's a case of new members are just keen to often get involved and fit in and feel they are being ignored when deals vanish.

Maybe if it was member spammed deals he's always had removed then he wouldn't have got an explanation and felt a bit targeted.

You have posted 5 deal threads. (Not counting the double post)

1 was successful.
3 were duplicates.
1 was a referral - we do not allow self promotion of any kind here.

Maybe these will help:

True man, there are some knob heads on here, then again there are knob heads anywhere and everywhere you go.

Does that mean you are not going for ALL the goodies Newme2006 was offering.

As a newcomer, maybe read>>> "Newcomers advice..." that emma provided a link to a few posts above yours:

hotukdeals.com/ite…=81

To be fair, bumping isn't covered at all in the first few pages ( Unless I have completely missed it )
I actually had to ask for an explanation but that wasn't until about page 6.
Ah, I see, the post you've linked. ( How do you do that, bye the way? A single post? )
:-D

Yes, yes, yes.....people are really uptight on this site. They really need to get a life. What is the big deal if someone posts the same deal...it won't be the end of the world (OR WILL IT!!! - maybe it says so in the rules!).
Have you noticed that it's all the solarflare losers that have a self righteous reply to your post!!!
P.S. I don't care what you losers have to say about my post....do your worst.

Above your avatar there's a bar with the time you posted that reply in at either the very left or the centre of that bar (depending on which browser you're using).

On the right of that bar there's a number with a # before it. This is the post number within that thread. Click on it and you will see the individual post, and may copy that link to link to that single post.

Refer to my answer, ]here.

Got better things to do mate....
Although i am finding it quite amusing keeping an eye on this post. It's slightly more interesting than the TV but only just...

I love reading HUKD as the next person however you can't forget this is a popularity contest for deals where you validate your deal finding powers with the crowd. It's a social game, users are only in it for pleasure / ego boost / no financial benefit. The only ones who benefit in ways other than pleasure, are the people working for the site and it's Admin / Cashback sites.

As this game involves posts and votes which are not free and cost time, People who can waste their time have the edge here. To get somewhere in this game you have to post a deals and vote on posts which takes time, a lot of time.

This game doesn't favor the people with knowledge or wit, only the ones who can spend most time lurking around.

Thus this contest produced winners who are actually losers (time wasters). It's a known problem in all 'Voting' sites bigger ones like Digg are facing the same problems.

The idea is to try and remember this is all a bit of fun.

I disagree. I think deals are voted hot if they're hot and cold if they're poor, regardless of who posted them.

A lot of the "regulars" in sections such as the misc forum, where the most friendly groups are, rarely post deals anyway (as admitted by many of those members previously), so that theory is likely to be wrong in that sense.

duckmagicuk2;2450787

I also don't think many people really care do they? Its not like theres any score chart or anything like that which logs who posts the best deals. Think most people just post a good deal if they come across one as they have themselves used good deals on the site and like to give back to the community

oh, I think people care, A LOT

this is why there is so much aggravation, I also think the fact a deal is good or poor is very subjective as many people admit, sometimes the price is wrong, sometimes the retailer is wrong, sometimes people vote down just cause they **** feel like it, who cares.

What I was trying to say is most votes on this site are made by people with a common feature. Most of them have nothing better to do. ...

Sorry... You READ the site, but think you have "better things to do" than click buttons to vote, which takes a fraction of a second as you scroll down the page?

I'm sorry if this post interrupted you in your busy schedule.

You said it Osa...

voting take a fraction of a second ???

you really expect us to take you seriously ? if you really want smart votes, we need to compare prices / see if it was posted before / check the stock etc etc etc.

If it takes a fraction of a second, it's worth zilch !

Is this how you vote duck ?

Thanks for that.. i thought that's all there was to it. But I've never seen a post bumped to the top of my list...

I would agree with you there, there is some pushes in a certain direction by groups of people either cold or hot but overall hot deals go hot and cold deals normally go cold. Personally the person who posts the deal doesn't affect how good a deal it is to me.

John

I just had to quote you on that, "voting takes a fraction of a second".
I need to see that in front of me again.

This is how a member with 12K posts and who knows how many votes operates ....
I am in a state of shock !

Anyone fancy starting a feedback thread called "why do so many people with hardly any posts think they know it all?" :whistling:

Ah, alas, quod erat demonstrandum. (that which was to have been demonstrated)

The people with hardly any posts are the ones who got better things to do,
alas know better than you with your almost 6K posts and who knows how many deals posts, what to do with their time.

But then you can always ask why am I posting here... good question. not sure really. got nothing better to do I guess ;-)

osa;2450953

Well, if a deal is really HOT then it's usually fairly obvious that it's the best price. And if you vote hot and it turns out there's a cheaper price, others will vote it cold so things tend to work out perfectly fine anyway.

Besides, I only usually vote when it's something I *know* is a bargain (I don't sit here and vote for every deal - just ones I know are either great or exceptionally poor).

If you can think of a better system then feel free to put your plans across, but I think that the voting system works pretty well as it's a collaborative effort. No single person has the power over a deal. If it's a good deal then *most* people will vote hot, and if it's bad then *most* people will vote cold. Anyone voting in the opposite direction to the majority based on incorrect information or biased voting won't matter too much because they're in the minoriy and everything will even out.

Edit: Ooh, and it's almost 13k posts. Occupational hazard I suppose.

Edit 2: If you were talking about REPUTATION rather than VOTING ON A DEAL then I'd agree with you that it has bias from circles of friends. Voting on deals does not.

Wow....

More tension in here than Jordans bra!

Calm down folks, its not worth a big row here

1st...Ducky & Emma are mods...hence high posts

2nd..I have to agree with them on duplicate posts, it would get messy fast if these were allowed...we've all done it so dont worry about it....try and use the search to check (but admittedly it aint great sometimes!)

3rd...There are way too many members who are uptight and some downright rude but just ignore it....it may be a forum but its the same in real life...some are just rude, hold yer head up high and ignore it...there are way more friendly members on here than rude ones...you'll soon learn who the rude ones are and you'll ignore

4th ...Solar flare just means you have 1000 posts...it shouldn't mean your better than anyone, but some may see it that way...ignore it...doesn't matter if your new or not...the vast majority of people on here will offer help and advice....so stick with it and you'll be a solar flare too sooner or later, not that it really matters

5th ... people do vote wrongly....not everyone, just a minority...peoples feelings shouldn't come into play....it should purely be on the cheapest price IMHO...this subject really grates me, silly for peiople to vote cold as they don't like the film/artist/taste/etc...its not about that its about the best deals not opinion

Bottom line is..ignore it we all start somewhere...as soon as you learn the ropes, you'll be just as valued members as people with 8k posts etc...stick with itand you'll be addicted...look at me 3 1//2 months....4.5K Posts!! (Which is actually quite sad really!)

That's a point, ODB. We all started in more or less the same way.

I joined when there were less than 2,500 members (what a long way HUKD has come now) and I posted about 25 freebies, 24 of which had been posted before. I thought I was doing great, until they all got removed and I was told to search before posting.

But look at me now. I learnt the ropes in no time, although I do still make the odd mistake when it comes to duplicate deals (mainly when I venture away from mobile phone deals).

It's the same on any forum. If I went to a TV discussion forum and started a thread about the ending of the Dr Who series then it'd probably get removed as otherwise there'd be dozens of them... there's about 4 here on HUKD. We're fairly lenient here (especially outside of the Deals and FS/FT forums) in retrospect to other websites.
