thiank they are asking what temp it need to get to before it reaches and becomes a hot deal

if people think its hot they will vote for it

its all down to peoples opinions I'm afraid - they may think its not that good a deal :?

Original Poster

however, if it's temp is currently at 93.. why not HOT ? I assume there is a trigger once it has reached a certain temp level ?

The temp you see is not just calculated from people voting hot, it is also from page views etc, there is an equation that admin is privvy to...

I don't think linking to an op is such a problem, but you shouldn't be allowed to post a link to a vote like you have in your first post, this could lead a loophole to be exploited like removed link allowing people to cheat the voting system...

:oops: Your 100% correct and i have removed it straight away, my hand is still smarting from the slap i have given myself, i'm now sitting in the corner facing the wall and i won't do it again.:oops::oops:

To anyone wondering about the link above, it goes to a 20month old deal from edi which was at 1 degree before I submitted the link and is now at 19 degrees, so this is potentially a problem.

timber - thanks, this wasn't a criticism at all, never thought of linking to the hot button before but I think it could potentially be a problem

Biggest problem is you click on the link and its not obvious what has happened - current page just reloads, but you will have voted on the deal. Perhaps its possible to only allow vote links coming from the deal page itself?

That's OK i never gave it a thought when i posted and your correct this potentially has the ability to bump up posts and the un-knowledgeable would be none the wiser what they had done.

Good thinking regarding your test which proves it is a potential problem and hopefully the Mod's will act on it

Like I mentioned I've never seen it or thought of it before and can't really see anyone being bothered enough to get their deal a few votes hotter to be worth fixing (unless its a really simple thing to do, which I doubt). I'm fairly sure anyone caught doing it to promote their deals would be met with a ban anyway...

 Its on the front page now with a heat of 95 degrees, does somebody else want to click expire please!

PM a mod.

I tried to report it but there is a database problem and you can't seem to get to the deal page itself...

Post up a link, I'll take a look.

The link goes to here: hotukdeals.com/ite…639

But the thread is messed up - it shows the thread after what it should? Curiously deal is by edi in full view and admin in text view!

(Its about seven items into the front page at the moment...)

OK... It should be gone now. Those Admin posts are from long before the switchover and didn't survive very well by the looks of things.
