How do you find the best deals on Black friday?
- Find out if retailers will price match
For example, the likes of Currys will near enough price match any item you see and John Lewis & Partners do a similar thing. Not all retailers will price match, so it’s worth doing your research beforehand.
- Create a wishlist
Create a wishlist of what goods you’re looking for. Websites can be flooded with deals/content and it’s easier to check back on what you’re looking for. Look at the price and not the ‘saving’ - It’s pretty easy to look at an RRP, which means recommended Retail Price, and think it’s a saving.
- Think about ordering online and collecting a few days later
Many retailers offer free, or low cost, Click & Collect options like Argos, who give seven days to pick up your items and you can even extend this for another seven days, via your Argos account. This will then save you waiting in long queues and go at a quieter time!
- Check the retailers return policy
if you’ve ordered instore, you can only return non-faulty goods for a refund or exchange, this is if a retailer has a return policy. Nearly all stores do so but it’s not required by law, so be careful! If you’ve ordered online, this gives you more rights: You’ll have 14 days, from the date of delivery, for a full refund. You should get the cost of postage back but double check all the terms and conditions. If a retailer doesn’t offer free returns, you can get free returns if you pay via PayPal. Check out our helpful guide on free PayPal returns here!
- Buy Gift Cards
Gift Cards can usually be had under retail value, if bought in bulk. There is always a risk that a retailer could go into administration and you may get nothing back, so it’s a good idea to spend them quickly and consider the risk. Compare prices upfront. When you know what you want and you know roughly where you can get it, compare prices. You can use the likes of PriceSpy, or check out older hotukdeals offers to find tips and the best prices.
- Set up online accounts ready for Black Friday week
Many deals that go live over Black Friday week are very limited stock wise and can go out of stock within a few minutes. Pre-prepare by opening online accounts, with your favourite retailers, and your preferred payment and shipping details. This then gives you an advantage over other shoppers.

Black Friday FAQs
When is Black Friday in the UK?
Black Friday is Friday 26th November 2021, but pre-black friday deals start to be released around the start of November 2021.
Where Does Black Friday Come From?
The earliest evidence of the phrase Black Friday originated in Philadelphia , dating back to at least 1961, where it was used by police to describe the heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. As the phrase gained national attention in the early 1980s, merchants objecting to the use of a derisive term to refer to one of the most important shopping days of the year suggested an alternative derivation: that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss for most of the year (January through November) and made their profit during the holiday season, beginning on the day after Thanksgiving.
When do Black Friday deals start?
Some merchants go ‘early’ around 3 weeks prior to Black Friday itself, around 1st November but the main event is the 26th November.
