Two games are going live today at 4pm, 26 January. Adios and Hell is Others, which are both free to keep. The offer is on until 2 February, when the games will change again.
Epic Games is fairly generous when it comes to free downloads, probably because it has made so much money from the Fortnite players buying upgrades!
(Fortnite is one of the world’s largest games with over 350 million accounts and 2.5 billion friend connections.)
The free games are available to download to keep, and there are usually two per week. There have in the past, been some brilliant AAA titles up for grabs in the free downloads, including GTA V and Watch Dogs 2. It’s always worth looking out for new games each week.
The two new free to keep downloadable games from Epic this week are Adios — a first person cinematic story about a pig farmer pushed to the edge!
Secondly, there is Hell is Others, which is a top-down player-versus-player (PvP) horror shooter. This one looks creepy but addictive.
More on those later…
How do you download Epic’s free games?
First things first, if you haven’t already downloaded the Epic Games Launcher, that’s where you’ll need to start.
You can do this by clicking the tab link which says “Download” (in the top right corner of the page) and it will install automatically when you’ve chosen where to store it.
Then, you need to link an account to the launcher — you can choose many different ways to do this. Choose from Epic Games, Gmail, Stream, Apple, and so on.
When you have completed the log in, you can browse the games available to you. Here’s you will find the free games for the week.
Now simply download the games for free to keep, and play at your leisure. Make sure your device supports the games before downloading (the games are mostly for the PC).
What are the games this week?
Adios
First up, there is the dark cinematic first person game, Adios, which was developed by Mischief and released in 2021.
You play as a Kansas pig farmer who has to face a difficult decision. In the middle of a freezing October, you make the decision to stop allowing the use of your pigs by the mafia.
It turns out they use your farm and pigs to get rid of their abundant corpses. You share your decision with a hitman, an old friend, who arrives to make a new ugly delivery.
And this is where the fun begins, as your pal knows there’s no giving this life up…
It sounds like a pretty introspective game, but an interesting one too.
Hell is Others
In a slight nod to French playwright, the aptly named horror game is a top-down shooter for player versus player.
You play as Adam Smithson, a resident of Century City who has to deal with a bizarre situation. He lives in a small apartment above the city and his bonsai is his only friend. He takes care of himself to pass the time, because it is moving incredibly slowly.
However, to survive, Adam must regularly get blood to fuel his plant. And so we often find him in the dark alleys of the city to find resources, while facing other players who seek to do the same as him.
A somewhat grim, philosophical take on a life of loneliness.
