According to The Verge, the next home speakers from Sonos will be named the Era 300 and the Era 100. They will be focussed on spatial audio, and will be reassuringly expensive.
When Sonos announces a new speaker, there is always a lot of hype in the community. After all, they are highly sought-after speakers that produce fantastic audio.
According to a report from The Verge, the next generation of the Sonos range will be called the Era 300 and Era 100. They are pitted against Apple’s new HomePod 2 and other flagship speakers from Google and Amazon’s Echo.
There is obvious speculation about the price but if the new speakers are in competition with Apple, then they won’t be less than £299, which is what the HomePod currently costs. You should expect them to be £300+, possibly much more.
The new flagship Sonos Era 300, is designed to present spatial audio music tracks and Dolby Atmos content. Not much is known about the Era 100, but according to the report, both speakers have a completely new design. When comparing them to existing Sonos products such as the Sonos One and Sonos Move.
What do we know about the Sonos Era?
The Era 300 is a multidirectional speaker designed to deliver the best possible spatial audio experience, with a completely redesigned acoustic system for exceptional sound quality.
Alongside the omni-direction tweeters, the system is rumoured to be housed in a dual-angled casing that aims to project sound in all directions.
It is expected to offer a range of features, including USB-C line-in, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and possibly Bluetooth playback, though these features may change in the final product. This will be the most advanced single speaker Sonos has ever released.
How much will it cost?
As ever with products that haven’t officially been announced, the pricing of the Sonos Era 300 is yet to be confirmed.
It is, however, expected to be a high-end speaker, as opposed to the more affordable products Sonos released in 2022 such as the Ray sound bar and Sub Mini subwoofer.
It is estimated to cost around £499, which is similar to the Sonos Five and would likely compete with products like the Apple HomePod 2. The Era 300 is rumoured to have similar specs and size as the Sonos Five and could potentially replace it.
The lower-specced Era 100 is expected to be more affordable, with a likely retail price of £299.
As all this is yet to be confirmed, you’ll have to watch this space. But if it is anything like the Sonos One or Five, then it will be another best-seller for the company.
