The Last of Us, created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO, premiered on Sky Atlantic on 16 January. However, the first episode is now available to watch for free in 1080p on Sky Atlantic’s YouTube channel.

This is probably just to get you hooked and so you subscribe to Sky or NOW, but for those of you who haven’t watched it yet, it is a nice touch.

To get you up to speed, the series follows the classic zombie trope of a post-apocalyptic world, 20 years after a devastating global pandemic has decimated the population.

The majority of humans have turned into flesh-eating monsters and the world is in ruins.

The story follows the journey of Joel Miller, played by Pedro Pascal, as he navigates the dangers of the new world and his attempts to bring Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, to safety across the United States.

Here’s a quick synopsis of the first episode if you haven’t watched it:

Boston, 2023. The world is in ruins. John Hannah’s worst nightmares have come true as a mutated cordyceps fungus, exacerbated by climate change, has swept the globe, resulting in billions of deaths or worse, turning people into zombies.

The Federal Disaster Response Agency (FEDRA) has set up quarantine zones for survivors, but they maintain strict control and execute those who try to escape.

A black market for contraband drugs and other goods has emerged and a group of rebels known as the Fireflies has formed, with the goal of overthrowing FEDRA and establishing a new democracy.

Inside the quarantine zone, Joel and his friend Tess have become adept at surviving, but their situation becomes more complicated when they are double-crossed by Robert, who steals a battery they were counting on and sells it to the Fireflies.

This sets off a chain of events that leads to a dramatic turn of events.
