Silly and arguably incendiary question; is this TV actually good or just good for the price? I have a 65UH950V right now which I think was top-end-before-OLED but is also 3-4 years old; £1k for a 75 inch that's as good as my 950 sounds great but do I need to aim higher to avoid disappointment?

V12_PHEV

I used TV75 over the phone on the 65inch Nano that was posted here. Coming tomorrow

LadyEleanor

No, so wait a few weeks for a proper discount on this. You might be better off getting a cheap 65" QLED. Costco do not have the TCL but they do still have the Hisense.

kkthomask

Did you mean 75UM7050? I believe that is 2018 model with very limited availability, being sold for £799? None of those '5-6 year warranty dealers' have them in stock though. Or do you mean yet another model? This one have USB2.1, which may be more useful for gamers(I am not a gamer)- correct me if I am wrong.

LadyEleanor

It has just replaced the 2019 which is available for much less. This seems a lot of money for nothing special

How are you finding it mate having had a few days now? Your opinion of the tv would help me a lot as I am thinking of getting one. Thanks in advance.

Thanks to whoever posted this info. I was about to spend £800 at John Lewis, but picked one up Monday afternoon from Costco. It's like having a cinema in my living room :)

I’ve just been to Costco and they have a few left. Is it worth buying or spend the extra £300 and get the new 75UN81006LB?

LG 75UM7050PLA, what about you?

1616french

I actually added 3 years warranty at a cost of £49.99 which runs alongside the manufacturer warranty so closer to £700. But what was good for me was the bnpl option for 12 months. Which model did you buy?

SS41

That's good mate and £640 is much better than the £708 I paid so in effect I have paid £68 for 4 extra years warranty.

1616french

Very.co.uk I have a 20% discount code which reduces it from £799

SS41

Thanks for your advice again Mumjit. You mentioned in another post here today that the image worsens with age? How does that show? Also, I bought it for £708 from Costco with a 5 year warranty and I am happy with it so far, but one thing that surprises me mate is the screen moves away from the bezel around the screen when my old one you can't do that as they are fixed tightly together. Is that common mate?

It actually makes perfect sense if you reread it a few times. Trivia Sam Sung!

Usmaniac

Can someone decode this message for me please?

Mr.C

I like Samsung, but I did work for their TV factory nin England. Did not like poor quality because if you don't like your Samsung TV you wont buy a sAmsung phone and so on. I try and buy Samsung to this day. We considered ourselves as a bit better then LG. But there is over £100 difference between the models. Trivia sam sung means 3 stars, so you can all speak a bit of Korean.

Oinky

I'm toying with a CRAZY sized TV, and 75" seems to be the point where you can set a silly size at a bargain? price. How would this 75" LG screen compare to the Samsung 75" screen here: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-ue75tu7100kxxu-75-smart-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-led-tv-free-5-year-guarantee-3500272 I know Samsung usually are good generally for even lower end TV's but they have some issues with privacy and feeding you adverts to some TV's? Welcome thoughts.

So you're a tecchy? On the basis of the number that are faulty think how many are sold and are not faulty? The plasma I got lucky with, somebody won it and far too big for their living room so let me have it for £700. In terms of price, it's down to economies of scale which brings the prices down. I also have 2 extremely cheap 40 inch Toshiba's at £120 each I bought about 4 years ago (made by Vessel I believe) one of which I use as a monitor daily still going strong. I know that the components aren't going to be the latest tech but don't write off a TV due to its price otherwise Dacia wouldn't sell any cars! The 65" I got through warranty claim to replace an LG which was hardly used that wouldn't switch on again (in turn that was a warranty replacement for a 3D LG, again barely used that used to squeel when muted!

mumjit

Having a repair suite full of the 'ruddy things sadly!! Happy to report my 60" Samsung plasma is also still fit and well and performing it's daily duties in the dining room without any problems. You probably paid far more than £800 for your plasma 12 years ago (I know I did!) and only 3 years ago a 75" LCD Samsung would cost you over £1500. Ask yourself how Samsung are able to sell a brand new 75" LCD TV on day 1 of the release of their new TU 2020 range for £799 and your half way to discovering what your eyes will tell you when you examine the quality of the components (and lack of) inside the TV housing. Please send me a message at the end of the year if your 65" Samsung LCD is still working 100% as I'd love to print it off and stick it on the wall to let my service technicians know that there is one out there still working! :)

dragonxpress

Just get an auto switching HDMI hub for under a tenner on Amazon

dragonxpress

On what evidence do you have of this? I never expected my 50" Samsung plasma to last this long but 12 years later it still is and has just been relegated to the kitchen to make room for one of these ... Already have the 65" for a year now and works just fine thanks.

mumjit

Terrible TV's, wouldn't hold out any hope of any of these 7100 TV's to still be working within 18 months without suffering from any issues at all.

Hahahaha, that is absolutely brilliant, good on ur misus for letting you do that too to be fair!! That is well and truly a propper cinema room setup, looks like you've done a good job too. I like the hidden 2nd screen in the alcove, good stuff. 75 inch screens are great, but a proper cinema setup with a large screen just can't be beaten, especially if you've sorted out the sunlight issues for during the day. Enjoy it mate! :)

Abs_H

I built the screen myself and saved a packet doing that..

Abs_H

My back wall where the screen was is actually a sliding patio door that we boarded over using mdf, the missus let me do it so that the room is totally black anytime of the day..

Abs_H

Just finished painting the rear of the room with the same paint as the front, got rid of an electric fire and had it plastered over (below the BvS picture). Also trunked in the rear speaker wires over the picture rail, got a new shelving display and got rid of anything reflective, added a black rug as well

They all work very well - iPlayer, ITV hub, Netflix and Channel 4 app are great. Android games also work surprisingly well - as good as any mid-spec mobile. The only issue we've found is Prime Video lags a bit, but you can cast Prime from your phone straight to the TV's built in Chromecast anyway so no biggie, and also the absence of NowTV (they have said it'll be included in an Android update soon).

I'm currently trying to contact Curry's to get them to refund the difference between the price i paid a few days ago ( off ebay ) for the item but have not, as yet received. However, they do have a price promise, so if it does turn up I should be able to take advantage of that, at worst, return ( at there cost ) within 7 days for a full refund. It was a good price at £1,199 less £50 on the 28, but if it's gone down by £100 plus 5% discount after 4 days, I'm darn well going to try to get that back !!

Samsungs interface is great. Samsung Tizen and LG WebOS are widely considered the best right now. And you're right, if in doubt and its possible I agree its always good to see something yourself and try before you buy! (y)

onlineo

Not op. Personally I quite like ambilight but not enough to pay any extra for it. My favourite interface is Samsung but I have not tried them all. There are some terrible user experiences out there so try before you buy!

Yas_

Wow what a great response, thank you so much much for the information, its a great starting place. I would agree that user-interface is also really important and haven't seen what the Philips TV's are like at this point, would you say that Philips are the best TVs at the moment (given that they have Ambilight technology) or would you recommend going for other TVs and buying Philips LED strips. I would've liked an LG tv preferably, i like the user interface and they have a good name for TVs, is there anyway to set that up with Ambilight with the sync box? would that go a lot over my budget?

Pranava

Seems like they are out of stock. Cannot put item in basket.

Mrsweet

Without knowing any other requirements you have, I think a Philips OLED 754 would be your simplest and most effective answer for the best 55 inch TV with lighting setup as it includes Ambilight. Been on offer a few times and currently £969 with 6 Year Warranty at Richer Sounds, matching the offer Mr Switch posted back in January. OLEDs are special because every one of the millions of pixels that make up the screen light up, or remain switched off, individually. This allows perfect blacks in an image, that allows for the most amazing levels of contrast in a picture and creates amazing image quality. Other TVs have techniques to achieve the best contrast they can, but none match OLED (although some of the high end QLED ones etc do come close and have their own advantages). For most people lucky enough to have a decent enough TV budget and who want the very best in picture quality, the biggest reason for not buying an OLED is a term I call FOBI (fear of burn in). That doesn't mean there aren't still some fantastic LED tvs or QLEDs. And some of the QLEDs go brighter than the OLED so can be better if doing lots of viewing in a bright daytime environment. But lots of factors obviously determine what TV you go for. It used to be all about the image quality but now things like the user interface and operating system can also be very important to people, so there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution :)
