Aberlour A'Bunadh (Batch 60) Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl £29.99 in-store @ Waitrose (could be store specific)

This cask edition sherry bomb needs no introduction to you malt fans out there. Batch No. 60 distilled @ 60.3%. Found this in the Oxted Waitrose, and it is on clearance down from … Read more

My favourite whisky. Unfortunately none in my locality

40% is only a standard because of the taxman - all whisky should be sold at cask strength and watered to taste. Any whisky under 45.8% has been chill filtered and thus lost some of it's flavour in the process.

Some Waitrose stores cleared this at £19.99 (party)

Superb whisky. Like others have said s powerful sherry flavours that scream Christmas to me. Would say "drop" of water for me is not enough. I found 50/50 water and whisky my preferred ratio. It is cask strength (ABV 59%+) afterall. The correct amount of water to add to whisky is the amount of water that gets it to the point where you enjoy it best

Great whisky for this money. Nice big flavour but well balanced. Don't think you will find much better for £25

Had to add up to three teaspoons of water to this stuff as opposed to my usual 2 max. It settled down after it had been in the glass a while but very very poor stuff ... preferred the 10 Yr minature

What rubbish. Decent whisky at a decent price . "The" :/ Balvenie is about as good a whisky but with a pay for the name premium.

Has a distinct red apple flavour to me, i see this more as a summer whisky. mixes well in fruity cocktails (i know shoot me right). This is just IMO.

Same price in store at Waitrose now. Just picked up a bottle for the ever growing collection

It was in stock 3 days before when I posted it, mine was delivered on the 17th

Great deal but personally prefer the 12 and the a’bunadh! Enjoy

Agreed, to my taste this is far superior to the 10, I cant understand why so many rate the 10 when this is often around the same price. each to their own though.

I'd probably do it as well. But then If I wanted to buy a bottle to share with some friends I might go for the 10yr. I am actually looking for a deal for Elijah Craigh 12 (cheeky). But spotted these 2 and though others might enjoy it.

One of my favourite affordable whiskies. Heat!

Personally I'd pay the £4 extra and get this over the 10yr you've also posted every time ;)

Thanks OP! As I've never bought from Waitrose before, I also made use of their £20 off first 2 purchases and I bought 4 of them for a total of £120 delivered (with 4 bags of sweets too)

Bought earlier today and first sip just now - wow! Very nice indeed but very different from my long term favourite Laphroaig. This is to be small doses and savoured!

Thank you, just bought the last one from my local Waitrose, probably my favourite whisky!

Also the Aberlour 12 is currently £25.90 on Amazon, just bought a bottle to restock. Super smooth and lovely Sherry flavoured whisky.

Great deal, bought 3 bottles off amazon when they have been down to £35 a bottle. The price for this whisky has seemed to have shot up alittle recently, maybe due to the popularity of it? Amazing Sherry bomb!

The price shot up to £52/53 so I expired the deal, didn't realise the price had come back down - Unexpired 👌 Thanks!

Still this price even if its a 2 - 3 week delivery estimate - not sure why this is expired.

Absolutely gorgeous stuff this, if you're a fan of a traditional speyside single malt then you'll love it, it's seriously strong but equally as delicious, heat

Still got half a bottle in the cupboard, so might hold off until around Father's Day when Amazon have loads of single malt deals on (I got the A'Bunadh for £34.50 before)

Back at 39pounds. Just got one.

Seems you're right. Checking prices once a day isn't enough if the recent deals only last a few hours. Busy enjoying a small glass now. Seems sweeter and not "quite" as strong as the last bottle I had in January at only 60.7%

Aberlour 10 year old scotch whisky - £21.99 instore @ Co-Op
LocalLocalFound 25th Apr 2017Found 25th Apr 2017
Picked up a bottle of this for 21.99 tonight at the Co Op. It's purpose for me is to prolong the existence of my Ardbeg and Glendronach. A cracking dram however, considering.

Thank you both!

Any Glenfarclas.

Glendronach 12 would be where I'd point you. Lovely stuff. Worth every penny. Blair Athol 12 is also a favourite of mine when it comes to sherried whiskies (which Aberlour is). Glenfarclas is similar too. The aforementioned Aberlour 12 non chill filtered is the step up from the 10, and the cask strength NAS A'bunadh is the rocket fuel of the range. Aberlour suits being young, so don't bother wirh anything else. The older expressions don't really warrant the price imo. Don't discount smokey whiskies just yet though. Keep an open mind. Your taste will evolve.

Really like the 10 year. Any other whiskys I will like similar to this one you could recommend? I don't like the smokey ones and this sort of thing tastes great. Just want to expand my selection...

Yep quite a few reckon the 10 is easily as good as the 12.

pity the fools who see fit to vote cold this whisky at this price

why is this cold? Terrific price for a lovely whisky.

One of my absolute favourites, bargain at this price and one of the few non-age-statement whiskies which is very popular amongst seasoned whisky drinkers, hot indeed!!

Aberlour A'bunadh Single Malt Whisky Cask Strength £35 Waitrose
Found 3rd Nov 2016Found 3rd Nov 2016
Every Scotch drinker needs to have tried a bottle of this. My personal favourite. Same price on Amazon for the moment, but even easier to stick in your basket at Waitrose.

Looks like my second reply was redacted. I don't mind, even though it wasn't malicious. If the guy want's to drink his cask strength whisky neat and is happy enough with that, so be it; but I still maintain 100% that by adding a smidge of water here and there on some whiskies brings out the flavours better.

Not true at all :)

After 30 years of drinking malt whisky I'm sorry to tell you that watering the whisky dilutes the taste 100% of the time.and your quote is ###ocks as I can TASTE every single pre , current and subsequent TRUE flavour perfectly neat WITHOUT any numbness (if it WERE numbed the tastes wouldn't be there!) Don't quote misinformation you occasionally read

That quote is completely wrong I'm afraid. By drinking a near 60% ABV spirit neat throughout you are merely getting the hit of the alcohol and losing out on the taste. Also remember that alcohol can is used as an anaesthetic which will numb your tongue dulling your sense of taste if you continue doing that. By all means sip it neat to start with, then add water accordingly; this will bring down the heat of the alcohol on your nose and taste; and open up the rest of the flavours you'll be missing out on in the spirit (think of a cask strength whisky as like an onion, neat all you'll get is a full on hit, but with water you'll bring out the smell's and tastes underneath adding to the enjoyment).

Got to disagree there IMO if you drink it straight you're getting the true flavours of the initial taste and the subsequent tastes that follow. By diluting it you're also diluting the taste. For the drinkers who think it's harsh try a few more drinks/bottles to get used to it. Took my 2nd bottle to enjoy on holiday and will be collecting my 3rd which arrived while I was away tomorrow.
