cold - cheaper in plenty of places considering the £45 / £75 worth of nespresso credit
Yea not the best deal. I reckon you'll find the machine and frother for about 90 soon in the sales with the 75 credit. Happens every year.
Edited by: "Sid.Harper" 27th Dec 2017
The nespresso Inissia is £49 at Debenham (cheaper other colours from Curry's or Amazon) , you get £45 to spend on capsules back from nespresso, so effectively it is £4. Aeroccino is £60 on its own (rrp), you can get it cheaper on ebay, so I don't think this is a good deal.

Absolutely go for it. Love love love mine. Nespresso pods are nice but £££, the asda special ones are nice, the new L'or ones are fab especially the 8 and 11 strengths. I could go on. The only ones I don't enjoy so much are the aldi ones tho the new green one is better.

I couldn't have one this morn as lost the milk frother insert and was in a proper grump! It's magnetic and had made its way from the washboard to my metal microwave tray and I only located it when I took my jacket potato out from cooking this eve thankfully I have an old aldi frother so heads wont roll tomorrow morning! I think all the Nespresso machines brew the same cup of coffee using the same pressure pump at the same temerpature, the difference in machines is just added features (multi size cup brew etc.) or build material.

Though I did see someone selling art created from the capsules once.

Everyone I know, myself included, drop them off to collect plus locations for free in the bags with labels, sent to you for free by nespresso. No guilt here.

The onus on recycling them is on the consumer here. I'm happier to pay a bit more for better coffee and knowing the capsules I use are recycled rather than the one use plastic ones which also don't quite fit the machine as well.

Thx - its easy to get the wrong idea via blog posts. Nothing against PACT but I just dont like companies where you have to subscribe - id love to try their product but don't want to subscribe and I use many suppliers, including now Nespresso. Italian Artisan coffee is nothing like the main brands which I personally don't like and agree with you - Illy being the closest to barely drinkable. My favourite supplier is Coffee Real (www.coffeereal.co.uk) and they have good prices too. Ive been to their premises and the really put a lot of care into their roasting and quality.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Nespresso is the best or cheapest, far from it, but its the only machine that can make a decent coffee 60 seconds from switching on - the Rancillio has to be left 20 minutes just to warm up.

Have a great Christmas.

So I've just got this today. Been making my own espresso for a decade, and I'm very fussy about coffee. Previous experience with pod coffee has been unsurprisingly poor.

However, the espresso varieties I sampled tonight using this for the first time were just magnificent. I can't overstate how good the quality of this is compared to my regular bean to cup espresso at home. I'm astonished that a pod machine can produce such stunning results.

Delighted with the purchase. Thanks to OP for sharing.

I assume the 'circle' area provides power somehow - it probably just has the exact same connector that plugs into the Aeroccino the way the normal Aerocinno base would? If that was the case, then you wouldn't need to buy a £75+ special spare part Aerocinno, you could just buy the regular one from the store and stick it on (and store the extra base away as a spare or something).

If anyone could confirm this I would very much appreciate it... I'm deciding whether to get a Pixie + separate Aeroccino, or a Citiz machine with it built in. I really love the lime green Pixie, but would rather have Aeroccino built-in. But I really love the lime green Pixie. GGrrrr.

Update.....

My £40 of JL vouchers arrived today :-)

The Coffeeduck re-useable capsules have been a failure. Three of the four have now buckled in the heat and pressure, and the coffee dispensed is nowhere near as enjoyable as the Nespresso pods. well you find it cheaper at another store or online retailer who also has a store , call jl and ask for under sales dep give them the details of the price ect and they go check it and call you back to say if they will reduce their item to match, can also submit an online price match but often works quicker to do by phone. I am collecting today and they will honor the vouchers as i ordered it before the offer finished and had to wait for them to respond with price match.

i have price matched jl with another retailer for the citiz and milk … i have price matched jl with another retailer for the citiz and milk machine as felt the manual one with reduced cup height a pain and dont want to buy new cups as defeats object of the deal, the pixie is cute but not milk frother, the citiz has best of both and after my £40 discount and my current £35 vouchers it will only be £78 so still a good price.

Too late, up to £129 now. Shame.
Price on Amazon has gone up, over a hundred quid now. Another vote for the quality of Nespresso from myself. I buy beans, grind and make espresso with a traditional machine when I have the time, but more often I use Nespresso, especially the Indriya capsule. Gone as far as having a machine at home and at work. Shame I missed this deal though, need a replacement.
The machine on its own is available at Home & Cook (McCarthur Glenn shopping outlet Mansfield) for £53 if you dont want the creamer. I expect its the same at all their other retail outlets, but is more on their website....
Melangerie Pods are available at Lidl in approximately 4 varieties. All at only £1.49 for 18 = 8p a cup.

There's a wide choice for online shoppers, e.g. ESE Pods by Illy, Caffe Prima, Segafredo, Molinari, Gaggia, Lavazza, etc.

Then there's Senseo Pods, available nearly everywhere.

Plus the infinite variety of loose ground coffee blends.

I like the Melangerie Pods. Great price, great flavour. In contrast, the cost of Pods for Dolce Gusto, Nespresso & Tassimo machines stand out as the rip-off that they are. I also prefer Melangerie Pods to Tassimo Pods (I also have a Tassimo machine), which are over 3 times the price.

Machines like this Nespresso lock you in an expensive proprietary type of Pod. A proper Espresso Machine frees you to choose what you want.

Which? is the source of objective reviews for domestic products. Your dislike puts you in a tiny minority. Practically every appliance in my kitchen is a Which? 'Best Buy'. Some are very old, & all are in perfect working order.

Which? reviews of Nespresso machines generally score higher than Dolce Gusto, Nespresso & Tassimo machines. If you really want a 'Pod-only' machine, & are willing to spend over £200 a year on Pods, depending on personal consumption, then by all means buy a Nespresso.

Those who want excellent coffee at a fraction of Nespresso prices should look elsewhere.

... So ***Lidl's*** ESE Pods are £159 a year cheaper than Nespresso Pods!

How about comparing against branded ones like those from Illy?
They are £10 for 15
Which makes them (in your example) cost about £268 MORE per year than Nespresso ...
What does that do to your argument?

The cost of the Nespresso pods ain't outrageous.
And you can choose which style of espresso you prefer -- until I got my machine, I hadn't really appreciated the nuances that I prefer among a choice of pretty good espressos.
I haven't found one I disliked, but I have my preferences.
Perhaps *you* like Lidl's single offering. Awkward if you don't!

But the expensive Nespresso Pods are worth it because they make better … But the expensive Nespresso Pods are worth it because they make better coffee than any other system available for home use? Well not according to Which? Their reviews show that the best performing coffee machine is a Gaggia. Score 82%. ...

I stopped subscribing to Which many many many years ago when I could see, month after month, that they were using daft criteria to 'objectively' discriminate between products.
Gaggia made excellent but massive coffee-bar equipment. Their home stuff has been a bit of a quality control joke. They went bust a couple of years back, and I have no idea who has bought the name.

It is NOT that I have invested heavily in this system and therefore feel some need to justify it.
I actually stopped using a £100+ Dualit ESE machine in favour of a £30 eBay Nespresso --- because it makes better espresso. Every single time. Without fuss.
Simple as that.

Ground (to a powder) espresso coffee oxidises (and changes flavour) within hours after grinding - if its exposed to the air.
That is the principal reason that pod systems make sense for home use. A basic grinder that will go fine enough costs over £60. And it doesn't grind just two cups worth at a time. And it needs to be cleaned after every use.
And I haven't even mentioned 'tamping' - trying to manually compress the coffee so that it offers just the right amount of resistance to the hot water... its a big source of uncontrolled variation.

So pods really do make sense for good domestic espresso.
