What I’m looking for is a credit card that has a decent 20 month plus on 0% spending but with also cashback like £25 , because it’s rare to get both , you usually only get 1 or the other .

Providing you know how to use them credit cards are fine. Personally I’ve used them to improve credit rating, credit card protection etc never had an issue and always pay it off in full. It’s the people who spend spend spend without any thinking that need to stop using credit cards.

Seriously? Did you actually read our posts? Using something wisely requires wisdom. Using something intelligently requires intelligence. Those who understand interest earn it, those that don't pay it. The way I've suggested to use this does not involve getting into actual debt - simply holding more funds in savings account(s) that you could use to pay off the credit card in an instant. Literally will have no negative impact should you become redundant or can no longer work - in fact it would put you in a better position as it would give you access to more funds should you need it, plus the extra interest you'd earn. Sure, if you just want to get this because you decided you need to have the latest iPhone that you can't afford, then this is a bad idea, as I stated (no self control or lack any understanding of money - totally fair and just, I'm not saying it in a nasty way, just saying it how it is). There may be a case that you find yourself in a difficult situation and need credit to feed your family - it happens. This is a reasonable way to do it, so long as - like I said - you understand money and pay it back. But of course - all credit cards are evil, should never be used by anyone and should be banned forever.

Re: The deal itself, it's worth noting that Barclaycard and Sainsburys have 2% or 2.5% minimum repayments, which actually becomes quite singificant over the lifetime of these deals versus the 1% you get with some other lenders. If it's fee free then it's not such a worry, but if you're paying 1-3% handling fee you want to have more than half of the balance still remaining at the end of the term if you're looking at this as a stooze. Of course, if it's just to manage short-term cashflow problems, then a higher minimum repayment may suit you.

I also think phrases like "Save up for the things you want. Cold" are quite condescending too, which is what lea to my reply. Maybe consider others' circumstances before posting.. Not everyone's circumstances allow for that either,, life can throw horrible unforeseeable curveballs to us or to our nearest and dearest. Or some people may have saved up and wish to offset their savings. Your post itself is implying that HUKD members are not able to use it other than as a ticket to debt. I get tired of the CC haters tarring every deal with the same brush - often it's a blanket response from people who don't understand how they can be judiciously used to their advantage, which is what prompted my own response.

Saw that but thought 2k in 3 months may have been difficult on my normal shopping

This is exactly what I’ve done although whether there’s a tougher credit check I don’t know but I suspect so as the gold card appears to default to relatively high credit limits (don’t seem to do a charge card anymore). I got a referral off a mate. I think anyone with a card can offer them as my app seems to let me now.

I never convert MR's to Avios as I have a BAPP that I need to downgrade! I have around the 1 million mark and can get 1p value out of EU flights but long haul I can't but we do prefer going out of LHR/LGW which is costly.

This looks okay, but would a new starter not be better off getting the Preferred Rewards Gold card instead? It is free for the first year and has a 20,000 points bonus on a £2K spend in 3 months. Plus if someone can refer you for it (cheeky) the sign up bonus is higher at 22,000 points.

I tend not to convert from amex MR to avios unless I need them for a specific redemption as transfer is usually very fast, within 24hrs. If I had a large balance of avios, I'd perhaps use them on flights as 1p per point is more realistic than it is with hotel redemptions. Depends on how many avios you have, but I'd advise against wasting them on hotels.

Amex offer: 20% back at Jimmy Choo (participating stores - online and instore)

I'm sure this was a one off but my wife bought some Jimmy Choo shoes for our wedding from Westfield. They were about £400. Once she got them home (and thankfully she checked) she noticed they had put two different sizes in the box. They could not have been less helpful when she called them. Hopefully they now double check before packing them at the till.

Sorry steveieboy1. Just thought I'd give people the heads-up, especially if they're looking to buy Jimmy Choos soon anyway. I thought it was a blessing when I saw the offer, as the OH is looking to buy some for an upcoming wedding. This will potentially save me £100, so a bonus!

I have the BA standard card, no tempting offer for the wife thankfully...

Cold to me. They are foolish to be behind a pay wall, so now they have to do some slight of hand where you pay and they give it back to get pretend subscribers. No. Let them go under.

The site says "You can pay either by debit card, credit card or with PayPal. All subscriptions are charged monthly, quarterly or annually and will renew automatically unless you cancel." so you'd need to buy a quarterly or annual subscription to get it over £30 in one transaction. You will only qualify for the Amex offer if the single transaction meets the min spend criteria in this case £30

:S Tried to use that 35YUMSEP code last night and it didn’t work on chicken kickers which are a staple of our regular order. There was an offer on the home screen for 40% off which very clearly stated excludes chicken so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s across the board now which will probably mark the end of my gang’s relationship with Dominos as the prices have rocketed up again. How can they not give discounts against chicken nuggets costing OVER 71p EACH?? £5.99 for 7 chicken kickers. Talk about a moment of clarity i might use this against a meal deal as an au revoir (highfive) but I think we will feel keenly the loss of the second garlic bread we always (used to) get. hey ho - nothing stays the same! now there’s meerkat meals who’s thinking we can all go out for a half decent meal for the same price as a Dominos

Thanks op, on my Platinum but not my gold

Check out this link for finding vouchers that apply to your local store, should be able to find a 50% off.

Probably not one simple answer to this, but.... There is different pricing between stores and different offers available. Worth getting onto their website, enter your postcode to select your local store and then check the store specific offers - I think the BOGOF on collection is quite a popular promotion, so select 'Takeaway' (recently changed from 'Collection'?) and see if that offer shows - or just call your store and ask about their promotions, especially for takeaway. With the typical large pizza ~£18 - £19 either customise one with some extra toppings or add one of the cheaper sides to get it just over £20 to pay to trigger the Amex offer. If you need delivery compare the offers your store is providing against a 35% off orders over £25 - 35YUMSEP (it's from VoucherCodes). Ideally price wise you'll want to actually have your basket total at £30.78 or more (as 35% of £30.78 is ~£10.77, so once the code knocks that off your total should still be £20), after the Amex cashback your total would then be £15, so just over a 50% discount. Also worth testing code THEBIG50 - I know my local store is running this for 50% off pizza on spends of £20 and above. It's definitely store specific as I've tested a few others. I have a feeling it's been used lately due to a Papa John's recently opening close by! Really depends what you actually want to eat and drink and what deals your store does. Enjoy.

Didn't do the deal in the end as they excluded the Wii and Xbox 360 Arcade from the deal. The trade in deal was previously posted on here! Or just go to the site, easy to find. Fifa 18 is just added at check-in for free, I guess because its pretty worthless this close to the release of Fifa 19...

Used this offer last week on two cards. Email notifications, but payment still showing as pending. See how it goes.

I find the Amex travel site to be dearer and taking into account possible discount codes and / or cashback sites, I reckon the saving is approx half the £50, based on a near £200 purchase. I accept that though and have used a similar offer/s in the past. Better when it was £50 off a £150 spend, obviously.

I'm not seeing this. Initially went to the US site and priced a hotel in dollars. Was competitive until I realised that taxes & charges are added on at the end. For the UK site, the GBP£ price was almost the same as dollar price, absolute con given we are already being shafted by a weak pound. cheaper than the AMEX price with £50 cashback applied. On top of this, both awful websites to use.

Shocked to see that AMT offers even cheaper prices than some well known travel agents.

Thanks OP - showing on my Platinum card. Will hopefully come in use for an upcoming trip :)

I have a definitive answer to the age-old conundrum as to whether the purchase of a Trailfinders gift card would trigger the statement credit. As we all know, this works with all retailers ( despite Amex saying that gift cards purchases are excluded) but the risk of trying it out with a £1000 spend was a bit of a risk if it didn't work. I did purchase a £1000 gift card on the phone with Trailfinders ( I had to pay for a Trailfinders holiday in any case). I did not get the usual confirmatory immediate email from Amex, but I got it a couple of days later. And then I got the £100 statement credit a week after purchase. Note that Amex terms state that only phone and instore purchases qualify for this statement credit. Do not buy it online ( although there is a webpage on the Trailfinders site for online purchase of gift cards) As always, please read all terms and conditions.I will not underwrite anyone's loss ! HTH

As it says in the T&C's it's over the phone or instore.

Different benefits! BA Amex is avios based and after depending £10k or £20 (depending on which version you have), you earn a compagnon voucher which a lot of people find useful. The points you earn on the gold card are membership reward points, which can be transferred to A LOT of other schemes like hotel, airline or even nectar! At 1:1, 1:2 or three times face value.
