Don’t know but I thought they did

Savannah_Williams

Agree with some others in they don't last 60 days. The 30 days ones last a bit longer. But the 60 days just can't seem to make it. Also had the issue that it becomes extremely slow to filter after a couple weeks. Switching filters once my last one finishes! Unfortunately brought a years supply! So couldn't switch straight away. Try before buying a years worth!!

mickjack

But do they just take them out and bin them like some other stores, I know Brita collect and recycle, these Aqua Optima may be a different story, I don't want the trouble of taking them somewhere and then they become landfill, plastics an all that.

rholmes85

Tesco have a recycling bin for water filters. Might just be large stores

mickjack

A great price, anyone know where to recycle used filters ? or is it straight into landfill bin !!!

North London. I started to use the filters to see the diference. Something on the taste, but the most important difference is the cleaning and to don't see the limescale, i dont want to give extra work to my kidneys.

SmartX

Just read the article on the properties of charcoal on the interweb. That's what inside those filters, apparently.

thomasleep

I wonder where you live that a kettle needs limescale removed every 4 days. Not sure just how different any boiled water could taste. Anyway if you are happy, good for you.

Pokora

Well, works for me. I dont have to clean the limescale from the kettle every 4 days and the taste is better. For healthy improvements, i use mineral water.

speculatrix

Agreed. Here in Cambridge the water really smells of chlorine when you run the tap, and the water is really hard. When you filter the water, tea tastes better and you don't get a layer of scum. In fact, when I see a little bit of scum of the top of a cup of tea I know it's time to change the filter!

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced kettle to go with these?

Slarty

Check your local Morrison's. My store (Oxted) is selling 3 packs in their clearance section with a price tag of £3, but they scan through at £2. They are taller, but doesn't seem in issue in my Britta jug.

tekhieboy

My local Sainsbury's had Britta ones on offer last week, probably a clearance thing, but packs of 6 maxtras for £7.50 so I picked up a couple to see me through a year.

dr_joolz

Where do you buy these carbon/charcoal? Any recommendations?

paulandpam1

Easy, on the top of the Brita filter is a round piece of plastic covering a hole that has four tabs on it, just cut it out with a sharp knife and empty all the old carbon away then fill it up to the top with the new carbon. There's no need to replace or cover the hole with anything because you'll never need to tip the filter upside down unless you're emptying it again. I would imagine most filters are easily dismantled in a similar way. There's a few videos on youtube where they cut the entire top off but I find it's not necessary.

antf83

How easy are the filters to take apart and refil? How much do you put in one filter?

paulandpam1

Same here, But make sure you use food grade activated carbon because the stuff used in fish tanks and ponds isn't recommended for humans. I buy it from home brew suppliers and the alcotec pure carbon (pure Karbon) is also superb for making nasty cheap Vodka taste like premium Vodka once filtered.

andygreyrider

I have Activated Charcoal Granules and refill my filters for pence. They also last 3 times longer!

I think still better than unfiltered water but not as good as Brita? or it is just me :D

tommytbone1

Its definitely giving me better tasting water, but i'll stuck with it and test out when making tea like adi says... Might even buy a brita maxtra filter to compare (they work in the same jugs).

sababee

So is it just like unfiltered water or quite better? Ive been making my tea from unfiltered water for some weeks now and noticed the marks as well. Is it worth buying or nah?

adi23232323

personally I don't think these filters are that good. I'm using them now as a replacement for Brita and I have noticed stain on the cup while drinking tea which never happened before with Brita, especially on visible on white cups :)

For us, build up of limescale in the kettle was a sign that the filter has stopped working. Its a good product, problems with it is that 60 days claim is overstated, and that's why the negative feedback it gets. TI found I need to replace every 3/4 weeks, which made them more expensive than Brita filters, which currently available at Morrisons for £8 for 4 filters

Saro

I myself can't figure out when the cartridge stops working. What should Iook out for? I'm just leaving in it for 2months as stated

KareemSaid

687 four and five star reviews compared to 44 one and 2 star. Seems a decent bet to me. Unfortunate that of the 44 negative users in the whole UK they seem to be members of this site. Probably best to take a look at their profiles and determine for yourself whether they are people whose opinions you care about LOL

Sweetcorn12

Save your money and time , by avoiding this product. BTW, return too many items to Amazon, and you may find your account blocked.

Skybird

Same here, would not buy the 60 day filters, certainly don't last 60 days of normal use.
