Its not easy sadly. For now I'm using a separate HDMI cable into another HDMI input on my TV, switch over the PS4 to this HDMI cable when playing VR, switch back to the normal HDMI cable from PS4 > AVR > TV when playing normal PS4 games...

There's also a Yamaha on offer for £200 that (whilst isn't as good as the Denon, probably) does support dolby vision, for those of you with UHD DV players.
I have the old 520BT version of this. Only difference appears to be the lack of 4K. Excellent bit of kit, and I have always found Denon to be great quality. You don’t necessarily need to have a full 5.1 setup you can just go with a stereo pair to improve the sound as most TV speakers are a bit tinny. I currently have mine paired with Q Acoustics 2020i.

Stock at Tottenham Hale Curry's, but be warned!! May find stock, may not.

I went yesterday to the store, as this one was the only one i can find that had it in stock, but when i went in and told them i'm here to collect my items, the women at the counter said "what product is it, is it the HDMI cables" to which i replied yes, and are a lot of people coming for these, and she said yeah i have taken some for my self, but their are none in stock now. to which i was like but i reserved them, why are they not in stock , and the was 1 reserved for some else.

but she called the guy in the back, who deals with the warehouse stock. (Steven) and told him if he can find some of the cables.

Then a fellow HotUkDealster came along and was looking for the same cables, to which we started talking, and we came to the conclusion that staff where hiding the cables for themselves.

Afterwards saw Steven search behind the counter for stock didn't find any, and a few moment later he came back with hand fulls with them, and i wish you guys could see the face the women staff on the counter had, priceless!!

Her fake surprised face, and her comments just concreted our theory, she goes, Steven where did you find these??? (their hidden stash??) we've been turning away customers the whole day, saying its out of stock. obviously Steven didn't get the memo, but i like to think he was a honest and genuine guy, which he did look it.

but not only that, then she goes let me check if you are able to buy them, some spiel about sometimes it doesn't come up on the system or their reserved, so she scanned all of them and guess what? they was all good, i even told Steven if he can get me 3 more, which he straight away got me!!

So if you do go in, ask for Steven hes the real MVP!! and Hey fellow Hot UK Deals Member

I've got the 2400, it has 95w vs 80w for stereo, 4k upscaling, 8 vs 6 HDMI inputs, but pretty much everything else is identical. I wouldn't say the 2400 is worth £70 more though. They're passive speakers so no. The AV powers them.

The Sub Woofer is always active so this will power down automatically when not needed.

I would suggest you make the most of a Dolby Atmos enabled receiver and stretch to the Onkyo SKSHT588 5.1.2 (£379 from RS) as a starter package.

You should also consider the Yamaha RX-V583 (£289) as it is similar in spec to the Denon but Yamaha's tend to be more reliable. (Under £670 for a Atmos 5.1.2 system is not bad going.

I highly recommend the Q Acoustics speakers, I have these:

richersounds.com/q-a…tml

Unless you go higher end, you'll find that you can only have 5.1 with Atmos, i.e. 5.1.2, or 7.1 without - most people agree that 3D 5.1.2 is way better than flat 7.1 surround.

For Atmos you'll need speakers on the ceiling or special Atmos speakers which reflect the sound off the ceiling from below. I went with a pair of Bose cubes mounted on the ceiling and they work well.

You're right, this will probably hit around that in April or so if you can wait. They always drop off when the new model is released. But they sell out fast as the price falls, so you've gotta make a decision when to bite in fear of missing out (and having to wait again, or pay a bit more for the current model). I was in same situation last year too.

At night it's workable with a say a table lamp in the background. I'd say, with worktop spots it would be marginal.
The projector is pretty good for the money, however it's a bit picky about positioning - the keystone adjustment is rudimentary, so you need to have the projector just about level with the bottom of the screen. There is no horizontal adjustment, so if you can't line up with the center of the screen the image will not be rectangular. Focusing is out a little at the edges, but not a big problem for videos. Also check the dimensions, this is a big unit - fine for occasional use but a bit big for a permanent setup.

If you want a projector that will actually show 1080p "full HD" then you need a native resolution of 1920x1080. Cheers

However it might be worth looking at other alternatives if all you need is an optical switch.....the technology in AVRs is updated soooo fast these days, and they depreciate massively. (My 4 year old £1k Pioneer is now worth less than £150) If you are going to be getting a full suite of speakers in the next 3 months, go for it, but if more than six months, it would probably be worth looking into HDMI switches, or a second hand but much older AVR, eg a Denon 1911 could be picked up for £50-£75 (but won't pass through 4k if you need that).fwiw, a set of speakers to do this justice will be £1k to £2.5k. Of course it will work with lesser speakers, but you could use a much cheaper AVR and not notice the difference.

Very useful, thanks. Think I'll wait until I can afford amp and speakers at the same time and see where technology is at that point rather than trying to increment my way towards the end state

So, possibly a stupid question. Could I hook up a bunch of inputs to this (multiple consoles, Sky box, CD player etc) and then output sound to a soundbar via HDMI/optical?

I know it wouldn't get the best out of the unit by a long way, but I'd need to save up for a bit before buying a full set of speakers. Is the method I've outlined possible in the interim?

The wife said make sure it's discrete. This fits the bill, right?

Lol that's exactly why I ended up changing my system to Anthony Gallo as it was the only one that was aesthetically pleasing to her...if she knew it was £2k she'd may have changed her mind

I'm hoping that this is a sign that the receiver might be coming down in price. I've set myself a £400 target on the price of the DN1080 before I buy it. I was hoping that this would happen this side of Xmas but I'm prepared to wait a while if necessary.
For the price you'd expect something a bit more higher quality, like Onkyo.

Absolutely disgraceful that this isn't 4K for 15 quid.

It's more people understanding not to waste money on crap which is good for nothing actually. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean you should buy it.
