Me and family members referred each other, opened bank accounts, then switched them in. Or rather, I did it all for them on PC in their names and on phone and shared the proceeds. I even called to switch in pretending to be my wife (who didn't want to speak to them) and they didn't bat an eyelid! ;)

SS41

How did you do 19 switches mate? Did you open 19 new accounts at other banks and then move to santander? I agree with you it was criminal how this deal got to minus 133. Thanks for posting it mate.

StudentGrant

Final score; 19x switches completed between four family members referring each other=£1900 in Amazon vouchers (and some people made over £10k!). Not bad for a deal that reached minus 133• here! (lol)

There are/were lots of people offering their codes so there's plenty around...lots of codes are being posted today: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5966162 Yep, about 190 accounts in total. Bearing in mind this promo started about 16 weeks ago, that gave sufficient time to open lots of accounts. Of course, the vast majority of those accounts are now closed with the remaining few closing within the next week. Anyone considering setting up a donor account in order to switch has missed the boat now, because if you applied today then you'll get your debit card on Monday/Tuesday. Starting a switch takes 7 working days, so the promo will have finished by then. For those who have current accounts (that can be used to switch away from) today/tomorrow is really your last chance.

That puts my efforts to shame, I am pleased to have got around £2k in vouchers.

Correct from September 1, 2019. Starling wthdrawal is £300 per day Revolut is £200 per calender month. Starling is very good if you just want the best conversion rate in the date you wothdraw money. But not good if you want to use to lock the favaurable exchange rate an keep Euro inthe account due to conversion rate of 0.4%.

nnj10

Any chance of similar but USD account?

azocarbo

Understood. Thanks for the clarification. So is there a 0.4% fee every withdrawal as the money is being converted from GBP to EUR? The benefits of Starling that I like vs Revolut are the high withdraw amounts per month and interest on savings.

pantaiema

Starling is a current Account, not Prepaid card like Revolut, etc Any Debit Card issued in the UK is linked to Sterling (not Euro) so everytime you withdraw money from ATM in eurozone they will be taking it from your sterling balance not Euro. You will not be issued a debit card for the EUROS account. So my understanding everytime you withdraw money it will take your Sterling Balance, not Euro. At least at the moment that is what the people are saying. At the moment It is good to save, transfer or receive money (not withdrawing or spending) in euros . But start from September there's a 0.4% fee for conversion ransfers. This makes them much more expensive than Revolut, and even more expensive than Transferwise.

azocarbo

By withdrawing it or spending it abroad? Otherwise if you wanted to spend or withdraw GBP why would you go through this whole process?

Actually says "before 12 July 2019: (i) deposit £1,500 into your existing eligible current account; (ii) log into our online or mobile banking service" so it could be too late! I'm looking forward to 9th August payout day, hoping I didn't forget something.

alexjameshaines

Just to remind anyone subscribed to this thread that today is the deadline for needing to have deposited the £1500 and logged into the internet banking!

anthony69

No issues for me, the switching process was fairly straightforward, although when I attended the bank to open the account first of all the bank was closed that day due to flooding, and they didn't bother cancelling my appointment. Apart from that, all good, and yes I agree why only put the damn sort code on the card, that's really useful when trying to setup payments from other banks :(

mightykaboosh

No, I thought the "by the 9/8 date was for those that took the offer up last minute & switched on the 12/7, not those that switched immediately. Usually these types of payouts are completed in 3-4 weeks.

Having the account number hidden also gets on my wick especially when setting up direct debits using a mobile whilst out and about. As for the card reader, not tried it, but my Barclays card reader works for Nationwide.

ANd Renters also get this bonus too ? No? what a surprise .. .y1 - £4k becomes £5k, +plus interest y2 - £8k becomes £10k, +plus interest on 4k? or 5k? y3 - £12k becomes £15k, +plus interest on 8k? or 10k?

lastjunkie

i don't think so, no. it's £1k for every £4k added each year. if you didn't pay in any more in the following years, there would be no bonus. so; y1 - £4k becomes £5k, y2 - £8k becomes £10k, y3 - £12k becomes £15k, y4 - £16k becomes £20k, etc.

IlIlIlIlIlIl

If I have plenty of cash savings and my partner doesn't, is there anything stopping me sending her 4k per year to put straight into this so that we can max out x2 until we buy our first home? Edit: If the bonus is capped to 1k per year there is no real incentive to pay in after the first 4k? Or am I missing something?

lastjunkie

used this to buy my house last month, and so did my wife. The £6k was very helpful, but it's only really open to folk with cash. we were lucky enough to be able to save £4k each over 3 financial years, and the final £2k was made avaialbe due to luck with the purchase dates.

No problem, things are easily taken the wrong way online! Hope you get it sorted :) The 123 Mini would be the most likely as it's their standard account for anybody up to the age of 18. Unfortunately I don't think that one comes with any such benefits like this student one though!

shaysmum

Sorry not meaning to be rude!, never saw this. I just got a notification for a comment & yours came up. I didn't look at the date. Yer its weird, i will look into it thanks could be the mini. :)

Psychobunni

I'm not sure why you're digging up old a month old thread just to be rude, as I was originally just trying to help but OK here goes.. This particular type of Santander bank account can only be opened if "You’re 18 or over" and are about to begin university, or already studying at that level, as per the account terms and conditions. If you are trying to say that your 16 year old daughter has managed to open this specific type of account despite the fact that she isn't eligible, then as her parent you should maybe look into that for her and speak with the bank as this account has criteria such as paying in £500 per semester and offers overdrafts that no minor should have access to, as they aren't legally allowed to due to being under 18. My guess is that she's opened a different type of account and there are maybe some crossed wires somewhere, maybe a Santander 123 Mini?

shaysmum

My daughter opened it at 16 so not sure what your point is?

This new program works in addition to reward programs on your underlying cards. This means you can ‘double dip’ on spend you push through your Curve Card.

The new scheme offers cashback at many top retailers. You get different benefits depending on which card you hold:

Yes, if you will compare with Starling you can say its classic not prehistoric! can compare with Barclays app, which for me is laggy and don't know from where to choose when I need to sort out something via their "powerful app"! For me customer services via telephone from FD is one of the best from UK, followed by Nationwide

yadiyada

Pretty easy to hit that criteria though...so essentially free

yadiyada

Literally just finished switching to FD from Monzo today (Starling is my main account). Customer support confirmed that I have met all the criteria as the switch included £2k. I've also now set up the FD Regular Saver. The FD app is prehistoric looking compared to Starling. So I will certainly continue using Starling as my main account. But that 5% saver is v.good, and FD customer service has been very good so far.

Ashe

There are no better options out there in terms of interest on a bank account. 3% on £1500 is still the best bank account rate out there (Tesco dropping to 1%), and £500 paid in a month is perhaps the easiest qualification that any bank account could request.

Bestbitter

I have already left for ever! Only switched to them for the deal, which they managed to mess up completely! 3% on a max ballance of £1,500 is only about £45 a year... and you have to pay in £500 a month to qualify. There are some much better options out there, with much less pain!

mattturner756

I know push payments is quite an elaborate scam... But some of the stuff you hear in the papers. Come on people, so obviously a scam some of it. Ringing from the met police I need to transfer your money into a secure account etc - It's a sad thing that this is a selling point for a bank now.
