I pretty much designed our extension around my projector. The issue is that the house is south facing and we have integrated blinds, and no curtains meaning the picture isn't hugely visible for long periods through the brighter months. That's why I'm moving back to TV

Stormbringer2012

We have different size TV's in all the rooms in our house and I have just bought an Epson EH-TW5700 3LCD for my mancave to project a 100" picture. As you said the cost of TV's seems extortionate, I even looked at some 86" one's but settled for a 1080P projector as it had android tv built into it.

Not really, you don’t always want your TV to be massive. I'm happy with my 55” TV for watching TV, but for watching movies I use my projector and 120” screen sitting at about four meters away. It’s incredibly immersive and is as close to going to a cinema as you can get. I’m not sure I’d want a 120” TV in my living room to watch all the time, plus of course you can’t actually buy a 120” TV in this country as far as I’m aware (83”-100”) seems to be the maximum.

FREEZIN_WOLF

Having been a projector advocate for 20+ years the cost of massive TVs these days leaves projectors in a domestic setting seem like a poor choice

Not hdmi 2.1 is that a problem.

Science denier, hey? And yes, 5K at 27" if crisper than 4K at 27"... But you'll only notice if you're sitting closer than the retina distance (based on a biological limit of human vision because of the actual spacing of light sensitive cone cells in your eye)

rprp

Never convinced by those calculators. They're the same ones that say you can't see 4K from normal TV distances, and so on. All I can say is that a 5K screen is noticeably sharper and more comfortable to read text on a 27" screen. And at 200% scaling, 5K leaves an effective 2560*1440, and at that size the text is just right. 4k feels (to me) too small at 150% and too big at 175%.

xybp9

https://www.designcompaniesranked.com/resources/is-this-retina/ use this handy calculator to determine 'retina' distance, then decide for yourself how far you generally sit from your monitor (it will be different for everyone) For your reference 4K 27" is retina over 21" I tend to sit anywhere from 24-30 inches from my monitor, with more detail oriented work probably as close as 18"

rprp

"Source? Otherwise it's just opinion"

rprp

Well I have two 27" Dell 5K UP2715K monitors and before that I had a U2718Q 4K. It is my opinion, but I'm not blind. Difference is night and day

You mean 4k 120hz, that's all the PS5 does. And I was happy with 1440p 120hz but the monitor I bought doesn't do 120hz the way I wanted it to, like I say I wish I never bought it and stuck with 4k 60hz

carl.harrison

if you do a lot of FPS then you need 120hz minimum.. in fairness to the monitor its advertised for its resolution not framerate... good finding at 144hz 4k monitor you will need 6x the cost of this monitor (popcorn)

Toon_army

I've got both, this one and the MSi still. The BenQ I put in the box to sell

Buy mine if you want.

Probably correct. For the 4K BBC stuff the HDR setting on my TV makes it too dark.

stressedman

Ah I missed out, would be a great way to ditch 2 budget monitors for work. An old 24in 1200 and new 24in qhd...

carole_baskin

I have this for sale only a few months old if anyone is interested please contact.

AshMcConnell

I have a similar one (EW3270UE) and the size is perfect IMO. I have been coding on it for since Mar 2020 and have no issues. I also game (and game develop) on it (usually running CoD at 1080p). It doesn't feel too big, and IMO 60Hz is fine for gaming. I also have a 40" 4k monitor and TBH it is too big

Seanspeed

A monitor does not need to be 144hz to be good for gaming. This weird idea that 60hz monitors are no good for gaming is just bizarre. The vast, vast majority of people gaming are doing so on 60hz displays and getting by just fine.

You beat me to this one! Had it in my basket when you must have bought it (y)

Cheaper direct from Benq. For some reason hkud editors don't want people to save a few £ (merged my post here). https://www.benq.eu/en-uk/monitor/gaming/ex2780q.html

Just bought 2, will see how they do.
