The Humax 9200T is a fantastic piece of kit, best gadget I've bought in a while.

MacNewbieInTraining

Hi, Maplin are selling a 160Gb Twin-Tuner PVR for £99.99. Sign up to their flyers and you should be able to get a £7.00 discount coupon. No doubt this is not comparable to a Humax but for £99.99 it's good value for money for a 160Gb Twin-Tuner PVR (brand-new not graded). This is a Vestel clone and is the same as one that Argos are selling for £139.99. https://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36352&highlight=maplin Think that this product has now expired on maplin.co.uk but am almost certain that this product is still available via their shops. HTH.

zxcvbnm

Yeah I thought about the 9200 which is meant to be even more sensative to weak signals. But At over £170 it was way out of my budget for a christmas present, even £80 strikes me as extravagant. I rationalized it as the 9200 has twice the storage and twice the tuners but costs over twice the price so in a way I'm buying half a 9200 for half the price. In truth the 9200 is newer and so probably has newer better software and electronics, but for my budget I'm still happy.

neilc

I agree with all the above, I have both the 8000 and 9200, both are great and will change the way you watch TV but the 9200 is vastly superior and IMO well worth the extra spend.

Sorry to hear about the issues with this. thank you for the link though. May give it a try.

barnehurst

I likewise just received mine and was similarly disappointed at no Vue tickets - this was misrepresentation - I'm going to try emailling Amazon as I may lose my temper on the phone

chris-magenta

The following is what I posted earlier today about what I experienced with this deal. Like lots of you today I've just received my Barry Norman DVD only to disappointed not to find the cinema tickets. I typed in the link only to be taken to lovefilm.com where I could only receive the four tickets after I subscribed to a free month trial. I'm already with lovefilm so I was unable to follow through with this so I phoned them up. The only way I could receive the tickets would be to open up another account with a different email address and a different postcode (and I'm assuming a different credit card). I don't really want another account so I decided to phone Amazon direct on 0800 2796620. They were very helpfull and acknowledged that there was a problem as the operator had heard several of his collegues mention it throughout the day. They said that I could return the items with a full refund, pay my postage and also credit my account for £5 for my inconvience. I then asked if I could keep the item (as I wanted the DVD game anyway) and they said that I could keep the DVD and that they would still credit my account with £5 and also the £3 (which might end up being £1.43? as I used the Hellman's book deal) postage that I paid. Obviously I jumped at this. I might even open up a seperate account and still try and receive the four free tickets anyway. Even if I don't, there's a £1.50 off a Vue Cinema ticket on the back of the voucher. I think someone is going to pay dearly for this error, don't you? Chris

alchemista

Hello it sounds like you actually purchased this item. One question we had - do the 4 cinema tickets come directly in the package, or do you need to sign up with lovefilm in order to use the 4 cinema tickets?

hi all ive just found this, ive only just signed up so dont know how good it is but it boasts to offer at least 1 night out a week, so worth a try i reckon :) good luck
duckmagicuk2

I agree, not a great offer. May be okay posted in Odds Are though loupomm. I have a googlemail address for spamming and entering competitions like this. :-D

loupomm

sorry if this is the case :(

sharon_uk

it's not worth it in my opinion, you just get a bunch of offers through email every week like cowboy says.

dominoz

Have a look at how it works They spell Odeon as Odean Email harvester ?

cowboy

I signed up for this ages ago and they actually send out emails containing offers (affiliate links) to their subscribers. As a subscriber, you stand to win one of the 3 free cinema tickets that they give out each week. Very unlikely to get the free tickets in my opinion.

got this at 6.97 and plan to give the deal a go as long as i cancel within 21 days theres no cost cinema tickets are sent on first rental (i hope:whistling: ) this is the blurb ]http://www.myvue.com/vueathome/tickets/ terms and conditions at the bottom

LordKelly

Well had my delivered today (2 of them) and also a Gary Lineker Dvd game. I did not want to cancel as would be charged on the Gary Lineker for shipping. So phoned them up and explained and he gave me £20 back. (£10 as a voucher and £10 as a refund to my cc). As i had the hellmans codes aswell the 3 dvds only cost me £15.57 so they paid me £4.43 for the 3 dvds. He was going by the fact that 4 cinema passes in my vue would cost me £5 each so refund me 4 lots as he said it is misleading. Also got a refund on express delivery aswell (another story) but really nice guy.

thepearce

Tell them the item had a misleading description and therefore was not "as described" which should be covered by legislation. That's if they are being idiots. Maybe if you call again you'll get someone more sympathetic? They don't appear to have a consistent approach - you might want to mention that some people are being compensated whilst others are being penalised.

zak

:x They are refusing to refund the postage and still are trying to charge me for my previous postage on the order............ what is it with these "Customer Service" people???

No problem. Glad to be of help. Think that an Archos is probably a better buy from what i've read however the Mustek seems to be good value for money @ £116.91. Think that Archos are the leaders in the market of PMPs although as I do not own one of these I cannot really confirm this for certain. Kind Regards.

yeah xbox 360 will connect as 2.1 without a problem. Doesnt seem to be a reasonably priced solution for surround sound on a 360

davedixson

Just what I though - cheers for the info. Dave.

jase71

From the connections it looks like you would have now problem connecting a pc or xbox 360 to the 2ch inputs, you could certainly do pc souncard out the green socket to red and white inputs on the unit if you had the connections on the pc sound card then you may be able to use the 5.1 ch inputs. You wouldn't be able to get the 5.1 sound from the xbox 360 as this speaker system has no optical input but you could use the 2ch red and white audio inputs.

Iiyama

Looking at that photo I would say no to use on xbox.

Bought two of these last year when they were £129 IIRC. One was DOA and went straight back to Aldi for a refund where I was told loads had been returned. The other one worked and I persevered with it. After several firmware updates it is fairly stable although it still sometimes hangs up and crashes but is no worse than the Sanyo IDTV I bought last year.

scrooge82

Bought last one of these from sore in stoke yesterday. Asked about discount, but got none, paid £99.99. Got it home, it had obviously already been unpacked once, so no suprises when i plugged it in and only got a black screen. Anyone else had this problem?? From reviews i've read its case of being lucky and gettin one with no major fault sounds 50/50 to me. Will return this one and look in other aldi's, at £49.99 it really would be a bargain.

Hi I paid £59.99 as its been discounted for a while. I used the aerial that came with it which was a telesopic one that plugged into the back. I've never really used DAB before so wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do. I'm not sure about watching tv through the speakers (i know what u mean) as I didn't get that far. As for quality its wasn't the best and wasn't the worst I've seen. Some of the buttons were on a slopey part at the top which also didn't meet my requirements. Rob

RufusA

FWIW Wharfedale is a "brand" used for Argos' own products so you won't find an identical one anywhere else for price comparison. The 400HT is made by Vestel (a big Turkish OEM for home electronics) so I would expect quality to be acceptable but not great based on their other products and support beyond what Argos can offer to be mediocre. Very good price considering what you get, you'd be hard pushed to find a mono DAB radio for under £40, and for not much more than that you are getting a dvd player, dolby decoder and heap of speakers thrown in. Cheapest "home cinema" systems seem to be from £40 i.e. http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/252985/art/mustek/home-cinema-5-1-a920.html?srcid=867 I imagine any of these will do an adequate job, but won't blow your socks off. HTH - Rufus.

scooby555

Thanks for that Rob, how much did you pay for it ? regards to the dab was the ariel connected properly ? and also could you watch the tv through the speakers...Hmm maybe will collect tomorow anyway and test it out !

welshblob

Hi, I bought one of these recently and took it back mainly because it wasn't the dimensions advertised as I was going to mount it in the kitchen. Its actually 32cm deep and its 100W RMS output not 130W. I quickly tested the dvd player which was ok but it couldn't pick up main radio stations on fm or DAB which maybe just might be my location. And no it doesn't do divx. Cheers Rob

The GeForceFX series were all comparatively poor performers due to their DX9 implementation. If you were buying this card it would be for the personal cinema package which was an attempt to compete with ATI's successful All in Wonder Radeons but the Nvidia equivalent never really took off at the time. John

X10

I looked at some reviews of this and the slightly higher specced 5600 Ultra and it's not really better than the Ti4200 range. I don't really need the 'Personal Cinema' extras so I've decided to give this one a miss. I have read that the ATI 9500 is a superior performer to both those 2 cards and I found this Sapphire 9550 SE: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=121484 For just £28.60. It's not a bad deal if like me you are stuck with just an AGP socket for now but are looking for a short term power boost for a small outlay. X10
